perhaps a bit of perspective is in order. People mention their security but not the price of bikes they have. The new cost of both my bikes is around £1000. Second hand maybe 4-500? I dont have any real security to speak of other than not drawing attention to myself/house.

I know some people with literally tens of thousands of pounds of bikes in their shed* and they have much tighter security obviously.

*more like a small second house*

yes yes no (bit of soft salty southern water though)

The question was not meant ot be rude but youve obviously taken it that way.

either way do you think my neighbours want to hear me cleaning my bike at midnight every tuesday? I highly doubt it.

Ive never made my own lines as its to hard on your own but cut back branches trees etc and put down newspaper with a bit of earth on top to mark out new paths. It stops stuff growing up from it in spring to the extent you have a clear line to ride.

quick question hora as i dont really know your personally.

Do you ride your bikes offroad or in the rain like…ever?

Ive kept my bikes inside and after one winter i have totally **** my carpets. Now they stay in a shed. I live in the middle of a large city aswell.

Like you i only really have two bikes (well there now but one is worthless) so could in theory keep them in the house or conservatory. Its just not practical due to the mud and would be very rude to the people i live with.

No one told me STW was inhabited by a race of nuclear super-mutantly tall inbred/456 riders :o

    **** REPORT IT.

If people are unable to drive properly they shouldnt be allowed to drive at all. If they cannot judge the road properly as to when they can overtake and make manouvers they should be punished for it. Instead though you are receiving the punishment for their retarded driving.

I remember someone calling cars "two tonne murder weapons" and that whilst i have a lot of respect for other road users whilst driving i dont think ive heard a more true phrase. They are capable of huge damage and you are lucky to still be here and have people tell you what you already know.

    +1 samurai

I recently got a geared road bike for free. Ive only actually ridden a fixie road and ss mountain bike for 12-18 months now and when i got to the bottom of short climbs i didnt know how hard i could push.

ive heard about this for single speed but dont know about geared bikes as realman says.

Be a pioneer and give it a go so you can tell me even though i dont own a geared bike. alternatively wait 5 minutes for someone to tell you the answer.

trail rat, i thought the point of these was that there are many options of how you can run them. IIRC someone (maybe brant) mentioned there would be more than one a-c length and also dropouts so everyones happy without having to use a million different molds.

mmm they look nice. Definately want some bolt through.

who gives a **** what it looks like ? It may well get ridden more than all the mincer bikes that get posted on here.

If its a winter build it sort of makes sense – Rigid fork + ice spiker tyres anyone? Although i would go single rather than gears in that case…

red lights are track standing competitions (with yourself)

I love my fixie for commuting, looks like shite but rides fine. Now im thinking about fixed mountain biking. Careful, its contagious :|

i think out of no-one riding fixed at work 4 of us are on them now…all of us being serious cyclists the rest being pansies.

clubber – i think putting inner tubes in is one of the highest profit services a lbs can do. Still £25 is frankly absurd.

driving around a mk3 astra and very much like it. Will fit two bikes easily and can probably take 4 if you really wanted but then youd have no room for the extra two passengers :D

See tonnes of astras/vectras about so regardless of what people say they cant be THAT bad!

ss inbred with fox 32 130mms = dead on 30 pounds. Thats also running a 2.4/2.25 nobby nic tubeless on hope pro/ztr crest rims.

With exotic carbon rigids it drops to about 27 pounds iirc.

Im only 10'4 but probably get closer to 11 with a full rucksack bottle etc. These two builds do all my XC and any trail centres ive been too.

I dont really notice the weight so much and actually tihnk the fox's are more fun to ride with however on the uphills they shed so much power because of no lock out and my slight inability to climb with bouncy forks. To used to leaning on the bars and grinding as fast as possible.

another vote for gusset double six http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=17775

run it on my pro2 and its awesome, no marking after about 200 miles including some trail centres in south wales (not that that makes any difference)

i usually ride rigid carbons but rode some fox 130mm 32s in wales over summer and some local stuff. All i can say is for general xc and climbing the forks are massive overkill…point it down a nice downhill with bumps and roots and the bike feels like its got limited rear travel :| Loved it especially with a 2.4 nobby nic at low pressure on the front. Im not great at fast descents but the bike was muching up corners and kept telling me to go faster. :P

When ive seen braking bumps i always think that option 3 of yours would be good. Followed by option two. Basically cut the worst of it off and put some harder material in if you can. Of course if its remote the chances of getting some hogging or something out there arent good. Perhaps if there is grass around a nice bit of forest "turf" could work well, routes keep it together innit.

edit: about modifying the trail, if you have any way of contacting the person who built it/manages do that. People get pissed off if you change their trails.

i had this happen to non ust nobby nic i got from wiggle. They replaced it from photos i sent them.

i used to always try for free stuff but since working part time in retail ive realised what **** customers can be. Now i will complain if i think there is seriously something wrong – if i know im pushing my luck i will accept it if they dont. I generally find being polite is very useful though, after all who wants to help a moody asshole.

Nice booty youve swagged though

i rode this with my brother on the way back from wales. Thought it was quite interesting how much they have jammed into a small area. Some of the rokc gardens i didnt really understand as they were placed right after corners, i guess if you know the trail better then mayeb they make more sense. I liked the prolonged one about 2/3rds of the way through.

Also the first bit is excellent, very nice berms.

25 minutes? It felt a little less to me tbh.

im nearly finished with mine. Should have flooring by the end of the week. Planning to get a small tv, radio and perhaps a very small sofa in there also. Hermitism **** yes.

I wouldnt, the screen is not that tough due to that fact its flipping huge. I broke mine in a 'door' and had to get it replaced. Unless there is an adjustable iPhone mount which has some screen protection built in and can resist a high speed crash with the whole force on the screen. :D

I dont need one at all, the one feature i would miss however is the calendar. That of course can be replaced wit ha diary though.

And teh comment about not neediing bikes….your joking right haha and all that 8O I couldnt live without my bikes. I would actually get really depressed and also rather fat.

Yes – im too stupid to use gears. huurr duuurrrr

Also ive ridden south wales trail centres on a 32:18 inbred. Worked out fine. MTFU is the phrase.

For me my SS inbred brought back the joy of simply riding my bike. Never looked back although i may be getting two geared bikes setup soon (road + FS) although the road bike is free and the FS bike should be ultra cheap.

I emailed Stans about running a 2.4 nobby nic on a stans crest (the new 355 i think) for XC riding, he said it would be fine you just have to pay attention to its max rated psi. In this case i think 2.2 + on a crest is 40 psi max.

ive only ridden the south wales centres but cwm rhaeder is awesome if your that way. Very short though.

Otherwise i quite like some of the stuff i've ridden around kingley vale which is natural stuff not trail centre. Some desceptively long descents and really hard climbs.

I, too, have heard stories of chris kings scoring through steerer tubes slowly and can in the end lead to failure.

As many others have said ive got a cane creek S3 and am perfectly happy with it. I reckon ive done around 1000 miles on it so far come rain or shine (or snow) and the bottom bearing is a little grittier than the top one. Only paid £25 from CRC which was nice aswell.

BBB – Is there a list of whats going on when? Or a rough time. I work saturday and would like to come but i dont want to turn up after everything has finished on saturday and find no much going on on sunday. :D

as nickc said why would the crankset be making the creaking?

Ive clocked up around 1400 SS miles on my deore HT2 crank setup with no problems. Before that it had done probably 2-300 miles as a geared setup. Only replaced the BB once and that cost 20 quid. Sounds exactly what you want and a smidge under £50. If youve got money to burn go XT or XTR perhaps…mmhmmm.

i dont know how good they are for long alpine descents but me and my brother both used them in wales with no problems.

They squeal a lot in the wet and the braking power seems a bit poo. In the dry though i love them.

ive been thinking i need a sprinkler to water my affluent southern lawn as its a big dog eared and we just put seed down.

£4 is a bit steep though for a bit of plastic, i think everyone should have to buy a sprinkler so its fair on me.
