If you’re driving it to mong and back is it worth replacing the gearbox?

To answer the question though, if replacing gearbox and they are already in there and can do the clutch for a reasonable price i’d go for it.

did you fully open the bearings and flush them out with something like IPA then pack them with grease?

With rubber shielded bearings (like in headsets) I’ve found it’s pretty much impossible to overpack them as the shields push any excess out.

I would not bother blanking it as it may increase the time the engine takes to get up to temp. You probably know with a Diesel they take forever to get warm anyway.

Take it off, scrap it out with something like a plastic spatular and then get some carb cleaner or something in there. Might be worth doing the inlet manifold just below the EGR valve as well.

dunno if I posted on the super-awesome-bike-riders facebook group MTG but we use 32h for mildish XC stuff. Ours is full susser though so that takes a lot of the sting out of potholes etc.

I love rowing but it is almost as bad as riding a stationary bicycle. Go running or join a rowing club imo, you will get very bored of a rowing machine if you are on your own.

I live in Portsmouth and never even heard about this poppy, probably just some idiots being idiots. Let’s not give said idiots any more media attention please and move onto more important things, like bikes?

Loved my NN’s tubed on the 26er, went tubeless, loved them even more, went 29er tubeless and loved them even more, got RR rear and love that a huge amount.

These tyres do no wrong in my book.

    Sorry to be boring.

Could you not get a replacement set and then return them? They will be in original packaging and unused so I see no reason why not.

If Veg Oil is involved and the sender unit hsan’t been changed or cleaned EVER then it is highly likely this is clogged. There is a small triangular check valve to stop the car from running when it rolls upside down. Well in theory at least.

I would imagine the car would still start in this weather with dodgy glow plugs unless its significantly colder in Scotland than S. England :)

edit: SVO or WVO will loosen deposits in your fuel tank and fuel lines and this will gum up your fuel filter. They are very cheap, if it’s not the problem then you have only wasted less than a 10er.

re: pointing up hill and not starting. You probably didn’t have much fuel in the tank and so the engine pump couldn’t suck the fuel up through the sender. You may have gummed up fuel sender in the tank which is fairly easy to clean or replace if your competent with this sort of thing. This engine has a fuel pump by the engine and a tube into the tank in effect, there is no pump in the tank which rarely results in fuel pressure problems.

It could also be fuel filter is gummed/blocked up. For £20 you can replace all the filters on the car. for £50 you could do plugs also.

I do wish people would stop calling Inline Hockey roller hockey as I actually play Roller Hockey/Rink Hockey/Hardball Hockey. Moan over.

Sorry bud but I think the disco guys in quad skates is where its at right now. As said Roller Derby is super popular with loads of fat chicks buying quad skates. Most of them can’t skate but it doesn’t matter because its the future of the sport in the UK.

Ignore the haters, this is a good PSA.

Also for people saying read the labels, have you actually bothered to read them yourselves? If you have you would know that pretty much any and every medication has almost the same list of side effects.

I’ve not headed off-road much yet on mine but we have Mavic xm-317s and Deore hubs. Full suspension tandem with a fairly light (11st + 10st) crew weight.

I’m going to give my standard hope pro 2’s with stans a go soon.

Cheers dave for the info, Its probably a bit far for me to ride over, do a group ride then ride home. I’ll perhaps post up on the forums asking if anyone wants to do one from Ryde area in the future though or just get fitter :)

I live in portsmouth but have never explored the IoW…Is there a club over there I could meet up with for a few rides to get my bearings? I would love to show my local club around there some time and take the tandem over.

bugpowder…I’m in a similar position to ononeorange. I’ve been mtbing for 6 years now but the girlfriend has only really ridden the tandem. Is there any chance you could show me some routes (mapmyride or similar if you use those?) so I can try them out. A lot of my own mtb routes are tight and twisty and not suitable for a tandem.

Are there lots of mtb tandems in the hampshire area? It would be great to do some regular rides.

Heres two methods I guarantee work.

    1) Liberally pour mud all over the pads/disc and ride the bike. Rinse off with water and repeat many times.

    2) Oven cleaner (my muscle is best ime). Apply, rinse off etc etc.

I’ve used both of these methods multiple times now and they always work. Number 2 is more for discs than pads but does work on both.

Cut your grass short and scare them off. Its worked really well for me but I don’t have any flower beds, just grass and a great big bike shed !

Go get those hayes! I’ve got three sets of trail/carbons and they are awesome. Loads and loads of power and I barely have to do anything with them. My brother has to bleed and do all sorts with his hopes fairly often. In fact every one I know with hope brakes says they require a lot of fettling. Not saying they are bad though…just I prefer my brakes.

I recently built my race bike with 160 f/r and it’s barely noticable the smaller front disc.

come join FWCC (fareham wheelers cycle club) for some night time riding. There is also south downs MTB club and petersfield mtb club I think they call themselves. Not ridden with those myself though.

I guarantee you these people saying the riding is shit are complete idiots. Yes, its not wales or yorkshire but you can still have a good ride. If you want “epic” rides then theres the SDW. If you want urban rides portsmouth/gosport etc are excellent. If you want BMX there is a fantastic track. If you want a trailcentre-esque ride there is QECP.

IT depends where you live you twonks. In the Portsmouth area the Tescos are great. Sainsburys is run by overzealous stuck up floor managers, is dirty and generally has poor quality food. The asdas are okay but very busy with chavs and generally sell poor quality stuff that i want…occasionally have good fruit/veg though. A new morrisons opened near me which is fantastic, the old one though is shit.

I think most people agree its “Whatever the people around you are using”. If the person behind you has 1000 lumens and you only have 500 lumens then you get horrible shadows. Even matched lights will create shadows but they are bearable. On your own..probably 300 lumens aka a joystick like realman says. I personally prefer a super bright handlebar light to a headlight. Although both are best of course!

To get started look at dealextreme handlebar lights or the uk magicshine ( i think ) equivalent which can be had for £50 or under and gives awesome light although somewhat clumsy with the separate battery pack.

Some advice for future porous tyres. Before fitting or anything paint copydex around the inside especially the sidewalls then allow it to dry. Then fit as normal. This solved a particularly tricky set of high rollers instantly for me.

On my mortage (halifax) I can overpay up to 10% of product fee per year which is around 10k I can overpay by! If I am correct I can withdrawn any money overpaid in the last year without any penalty. Worth checking if you can do this.

i had a problem with mechs with fullly sealed cables where the middle layer was bunching up. Check the cable has fully free movement and also check the bolts etc aren’t hitting anything when it swings.

I had the same problem. A lady in front of me did it three times. She stopped at the top and I stopped in the middle so it took me a long time to get going again…I really felt for the people behind me who stood no chance. Perhaps they need a “chicken route”, something quite a bit longer but with less of a severe climb. I know its sometimes used around particularly tough features.

I also missed the start of my race…but that’s my own fault. Doh.

Just reread and I must admit I like the features, as we both said though there needs to be another option for people who can’t manage them.

Get a tesco contract as you can cap the spending at whatever you like. So if you get a £10 contract you can enforce so its impossible for anything else to be spent. That way she can learn some self control in texting perhaps? (that sounds sarcy but its not meant to)

WTF are you doing to your ralphs to puncture them so easy? I ran one on a weeks holiday in yorkshire and use it for racing with a nobby nic on the front. For general riding though I don’t know why you’d look elsewhere than a nobby nic…unless you’re a fair weather rider of course.
