With all these families and couples having to stay at home and with time on their hands, folk really need to use all means to avoid conception. The last thing the NHS needs is the maternity services being overburdened in a few months (we have no certainty how long this is going to go on for).

Plus pregnancy puts your household instantly into the High Risk category taking workers (could be essential workers) out of productive work (as household will need to stay at home for the duration of the outbreak).

The UK approach is fundamentally different from the rest of the world.

Rest of world is adopting a ‘Lock Down’ approach to completely starve out the virus and attempt total elimination- The ‘Chinese Model’

The UK approach is a controlled epidemic, segregating the High Risk group (>70yrs & those with underlying issues) from rest of society (i.e. Low risk population <70yrs with no underlying health issues) for the duration of the outbreak, whilst allowing the Low risk population to spread the virus at a controlled rate developing herd immunity. (*hopefully immunity is conferred to those that contract the virus…)

Understanding this fundamental difference is central to understanding the govt control mechanisms/ policies.

Once we have demonstrated that we can effectively separate the two populations, govt policies will be used to turn on the taps and allow an increased rate of infection amongst the low risk group (as exceedence of the ICU capacity is unlikely to be exceeded).

The sooner we can squirrel away the elderly/vulnerable and support them to be kept squirrelled away, the sooner the pubs will open..there’s an incentive for you.

Stay safe. Could we get the message out there for Low Risk households to do in-store shops which frees up the delivery slots for the High Risk households (elderly and vulnerable with underlying conditions) who have been instructed to stay at home for the duration of the outbreak. They will be forced into the stores which is putting them at risk.

Is there any info out there about how long the virus survives on card or paper? I’ve read its up to 3 days on hard/ metal surfaces.

An infected Postie could take out a whole postal round. Hope someone other than me has thought about this.
Any posties in the house getting a steer from their employer?

I might start quarantining the post for a day (high risk household).

Good to see that couriers are now signing their pad themselves.

Chill. This epidemic is most likely all over in 6-8 months. Yes there are economic consequences, but these are secondary to the nation’s health.

We can either do this by minimising the death rate and doing our bit to contribute to the overall management of the peak and rate of the epidemic….

Or we can be irresponsible and contribute to a massive death toll including our parents and friends with underlying health issues.

Important you decide if you are in
    – a LOW risk household or
    -a HIGH risk household

Never the twain should meet for the foreseeable.

Low risk households should have minimal health concerns. Yes you will get a flu-like illness, but you should be ok. Just follow the advice on social distancing etc to help manage the rate of infection. Once you’ve had it, normality will largely resume. Don’t do online food shops in order to allow the high risk households access to delivery slots. Avoid close contact with your elderly relatives. But make doorstep deliveries for them. Be sensible.

High risk households need to accept that if you want to increase your chances of survival, you have to withdraw and hibernate for as long as needed. Let it pass by in the outside world. It’s going to be a long haul. Do online shops, keep delivery drivers 2m away. No visitors. Stick a warning note on your door.

    And everyone wash their hands.

    Good luck.

A lot of folk are having trouble processing what is happening.
We must not panic. Calm down.

Young healthy people will get through this. Your health will be fine in the long run. And we are in this for the long haul.

    Take practical action where appropriate.

Where a household has a high risk person, place a sign on the door. Mine reads
STOP! HIGH RISK PERSONS LIVE HERE
    1. RING/KNOCK
    2. DELIVER
    3.STEP BACK 3 PACES

You might think it’s tinfoil hat, but it is a simple measure that could save my life.

The Uk approach needs thinking through. A country that has endemic coronavirus will be completely cut off from Lock down countries. 14 day quarantine for any human movement minimum. No long distance truckers stopping off at the truck stop for a burger. No flights in or out. Given that we import our food, this is most concerning. Needs a massive quarantine area for any exports (our exports will have coronavirus all over them for 3 days minimum). Non UK buyers will just buy elsewhere as easier. Northern Irish border won’t work. NI has to have same lockdown as Ireland, can’t have endemic coronavirus in NI but not republic. NI border with UK will have to close.

Not sure how long economies can sustain lockdown.

End of days stuff I’m afraid. No way Africa, Asia and Latin america will be able to manage effective lock down.

The Cure are doing a faultless performance. Band are super tight and Robert Smith’s voice is amazing for a guy his age who’s done his fair share of hard living. I saw them in 95 at Finsbury Park, great gig that was.

Longdog. re-read my posts above in this thread. Agatscan calcium score of zero here too. Given that cardiologists do not currently fully understand your problem, further assessment is required. You have to push for a cardiac MRI scan. Worth me mentioning that 3 weeks of intravenous ceftriaxone antibiotics sorted me out. Good luck.

The ME/ CFS diagnosis is definitely ringing the Lyme alarm bell. As is the knee (major joint) problems. Bear in mind that the blood test is a bit suspect if you get one. Good luck.

Longdog. Your history sounds suspiciously like my case. You should persuade your cardiologist to undertake a Cardiac MRI scan on you. I had CT scan (agatscan score of zero) and normal ecg at rest. I also had ectopics and on exercise treadmill stress test, severe arrhythmia, non-sustained ventricular tachycardia on the stress test. Cardiologists were throwing any test available at me as they couldnt understand my case at all. The MRI scan revealed acute mycarditis. They even asked the mri scan lab if the report had a typo!! Cardiologists baffled, however I recalled a tick bite, fluey symptoms, stiff neck and memory issues. It was linked to Lyme disease which causes Lyme carditis. I had a blood test and got a positive test result (lucky as tests are like tossing a coin). Got treated with 3 weeks IV antibiotics and not had any issues for 2 years since. Do you live in an area with high deer population or high lyme risk area, (although lyme can be found all over UK). You might want to Google Matt Dawson Lyme. Best of luck in getting sorted, whatever the cause.

From the NHS website link above:
‘Around one in three people won’t develop the rash.’

With a recent history of tick bites, I would at least flag with GP and get a NHS blood test done by PHE Rare and Imported Pathogens Laboratory.

This is the voice of experience talking here.

Are you Matt Dawson? Google Matt Dawson Lyme.

Myocarditis is a symptom of Lyme Disease. I know. I’ve had it.

    Have you been bitten recently?
Do you live in a high risk area?
    Have you had frequent palpitations?
Have you other aches, pains, stiff neck, memory loss, pins/needles?

Are we ignoring the trend towards complete urbanisation of the UK? Only when we are riding urban downhill as the norm instead of rooty woodland singletrack will we wake up and realise that perpetual year on year uncontrollable population growth of a finite space is not sustainable. Much bigger issue then brexit mind, and riding on rural trails will be the least of our problems.

Did a 100TT at the weekend on a rolling course. Managed 4hrs28m, marginal pb. I was useless for the remainder of the day after that. Best 10m TT time is 21.59 a few weeks ago, can’t see me going quicker than that any time soon.

I’ve got the WTB Bronson 2.2 on the back of my T129 at the mo – seems to have enough clearance, & is beefy enough.
T129 is a very rapid bike, no question. Quick down most stuff I point it down, you have to reign it in a bit if anything. Feels fine with both wheels off the ground. Just lacks a bit of flick. Touch heavy to be competitive uphill though (or is that just me..)

Would love a go on the T130 to see if there is much difference in the overall feel.

So looking forward to not seeing the Scottish football results on Final score, although I will be gutted if I miss the Forfar 5, East Fife 4 score

Good luck to the residents of Scotland whatever happens, and hope it all ends up peaceful….

Pinot looking a class act. His descending looks on the mend too.

Mind you, he doesn’t have the skills of an ex-mountain biker at speeds of up to 100km per hour in this, the month of July*

In the spirit of DH early days, you should watch it, but play drinking games – down a shot every time Warner or Rat Boy swears.

Did get a bit dusty in my house too when the clips of Peat’s WC win came on.

Vouilloz and Hill footage showed how good they really were/ are compared to the rest though.
