I now have 1×11 – 10-42 40 up front. There have been a few hills that I have noticed my puff being lost on.

I keep toyinng with the idea of a 38 or 36 up front, but do worry about the loss of top end speed, although I very rarely used by old 50×12 other than pegging it down hill.

Will I be really pissed off with a 38 or 36 up front?

This has just jogged my memory that I had a Barcylcard when I was a student and an MBNA card both with PPI.

At work she calls me Mr. Quirrel, although sometimes she slips and calls me Dad

At home she calls me Dad or quite often Mr. Paul, which is the name of her teacher, who is stick thin, with a beard and doesn’t look like me.

Many moons ago, while staying in a beach hut, a female beach hut dwelling neighbour went out at 5am to go diving, around 5:05am her alarm clock went off. This was a bit early for me, but never too early to enjoy the rest of the days herbal intake.

12pm alarm is still going. It’s slightly more irritating now, but sitting in the restaurant, above the huts, it’s not too bad.

6pm alarm is still going, I’m a bit cross eyed at this point, and really could do with a lie down.

11pm enough is enough, there is a small gap above the huts that I can squeeze through and turn the alarm off, go get some sleep.

A my rather large frame was squeezing its way through the gap above my neighbours door, she returned to see my backside and legs facing her as she came up the steps.

There was obviously a moment of embarrassment on both our parts, mine for being caught breaking into her hut, and her for her alarm annoying everybody all day.

I’m quite glad she came back really. I had not planned on how I was going to exit her hut which was padlocked from the outside with nothing inside the huts to stand on to get you up to the height of the door.

I imagine it would have been me that was the solely embarrassed at that point, as she would have opened her door, to find me more than likely asleep on her bed, with no alarm going off.

As for your neighbours alarm going off, can’t help you there. Maybe there is a cat stuck inside that needs rescuing.

Hard to decide between a B17 and the Carbium one.

Both look decent, Sella Antomica I’m up on their weight limit, but decent price in the sale just now.

Don’t do it for a week, if you’re climbing the walls on day 3, you’ve got a problem, not a big one, but one worth keeping an eye on.

Four weeks into not drinking. Old habits were forming again.

First week or so was challenging, over the hump for now, until I start again. Could be a month, could be two years as it was a few years ago.

About par for the course though.

Was this in the UK? Sounds like something my maintenance team would do.

A septic pipe needed a hole cutting in it, and to repair the hole, one of them put a rubber sandal over it and held it down with a stone…..

It’s now been out on half a dozen rides, today’s the most adventurous, off up the hardpacked clay farm tracks into the mountains.

What was a planned 1 hour quick ride before back to read for uni work, turned into 3 1/2 hours around some nice trails.

1×11 is interesting, there is time I could do with a lower gear, and I do find it odd that my top end now is about 45km/h, which is not a bad thing, I think blatting down a hill here at 60km/h is a bit daft with the local drivers.

Hydros on drops – not keen overall yet, they are a bit soft for me, got softer still when I adjusted the reach, may need a bleed, but shop told me they won’t feel quite like mountain bike hydros.

Scwalbe G-Ones in tubeless are great tires, very impressed.

Just have to fight the urge to buy new trinkets for it. I really don’t need that dynamo hub, but I want it.

More importantly for me is that I don’t feel like I ahve been in battered around like I did on my CX bike, I could manage 40km on that, but always felt it after the ride, on the Marin I get off only with a sore backside, and that is about it.

Animals in ceilings, always a hot topic for me.

Last few months there has been a rat up there, when it naws away at the wood it is LOUD and makes me angry. The cat is shit and doesn’t care.

This was until yesterday, when the bee man came to see how big the bee nest was in our roof that we had spotted, huge is what he said, and we can’t get into it due to there only being a single fixed vent. He has gassed them best he can with the hope they move elsewhere.

Before you bee lovers get all moany, they are little **** here, turn the lights on at night time and they swarm them, interesting if it is the outside light, not so interesting if they decide the light coming through a mosquito screen door bedroom door is what they want.

Our old house, had something that jumped around up there all night, had the maintenance put glue traps up there and block as many holes as possible, one white oriental squirrel, and every To-Ke within a 10m radius were caught. It all went quiet after that.

    Certainly cheaper than that wildcat.

Just seen how much the Wildcat TOptube pack is – I got mine thrown in , unused, when I bought a second hand frame bag and seat pack.

Other option was Topeak – within budget as well – a tourguide bar bag, and a topbar bag, with shipping, will be a bit more.

I got laughed at for my Marin Four Corners Elite, but when it was 1200 in the sale, plus the VAT back when I exported it out of the country with me, it became even better value.

Only put 150km on it so far, but I’m not feeling as if I’ve had the shit kicked out of me like I did on my CX bike.

^ It would still have been biblical, nearly sheer drops around three quarters of the grounds of the house, and all fields slopping away steeply on the other side, as well as the drive.

^ I have turned off autoupdate on emails now for that reason. I got sick of seeing emails from problem folk just before I went to sleep.

I sleep a lot better now knowing I don’t need to worry about work emails.

I lived atop of a hill in Wylam, about 100m from the Tyne, and we were classed at risk of flooding and charged a premium on our insurance.

Now we are talking a biblical flood to have reached us, we must have been a good 50m above the river level to start with and 100m or so away.

If we flooded, I don’t think we would be worrying about house insurance anymore.

I find it hard to go back to work on a Monday let alone after a week or two off.

Work is fairly stressful most of the time. Some days are better than others – a non-communicative boss 150km away, a few angry parents trying to cause trouble, slow pace that anything gets done at drive me to distraction.

There are days where I write a long email with things that must be discussed and actions put in place, to only delete it, as I know sending it will only frustrate me even more when I get no response to the questions asked.

I’ve signed for a further two years, 20 months left and the end feels a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally long way off and yet tomorrow it might be grand.

I know I swing from happy to low, I’ve been aware of it for quite a few years, it never really verges on the manic, but I have hit some fairly low points here. really I should probably do something about it, but then what?

It’s not really inappropriate, though is it. If you had shown a photo of your willy stuck in the seat post covered in lithium grease, that would be inappropriate.
