my first car was a volvo 440 1.7 GLT in beige.gold with beige interior.

It was quick enough, and safe, cost 700 to insure back then.

Didn’t pull any girls with it, but I loved it none the less.

Heated seats in winter, alloy wheels, 1.7 lump under there, it had high mileage it did the job fine.

    V40 or s40 1.6 would be a good bet.

This is one of the places I am staring at day in day out.

I can get an ok mortgage on it. It ticks all the boxes, and can be picked up freehold easyily enough, but do I need a pool when it is near the beach.

So then I look at this.

    http://www.erarayong.com/en/object/obj20417_1375519305

Which I can get freehold without any issues, for a lot cheaper, but the neighbours were a bit mad, and selling the place.

Which takes me back to this place.

We have already stayed here and it is lovely and safe, but what happens if in 10 years like a lot of things here it is falling apart.

So I go back to the one with the pool.

Sometime in 2030 I may have bought one by which time our daughter, who the house will ultimately be for be old enough to own it anyway.

And don’t even get me started on the 50+ bookmarks on chinese carbon wheels, or the child car seat bookmarks with reviews for each one.

Days which turns into weeks which turns into months, and then sometimes years.

I hate buying stuff, as I spend so long weighing stuff up.

At work it is different, need a new bathroom built for the new nursery – get it done. Interactive projectors, go get us three.

I interviewed a man the other day who had three wives, five kids between them, all three wives were fit. May have had a fourth one away in the countryside.

Turned up in a blinged out caravelle.

He looked pretty happy, wives seemed nice enough, although when out of the room, they all just sat on their phones silent.

I picked up an Eastway CX 2.0 for around 680GBP last summer, very pleased with it although upgraded brakes to CX77 and put an 11-32 on the back

They did a full carbon CX1.0 that was on sale as well.

Wiggle own them now, I believe, and according to their Facebook they are preparing to release more bikes.

Some for sale on wiggle just now, 30% off. Really impressed with the bike, but it is my first cx style drop bar ever

    I would follow my dream.

I would hire an office space, with a cupboard in it, and paint the walls, floor and ceiling all white.

I would then pay someone 40k per year, with all the legal breaks, holidays etc to stand there and hold the cupboard door open staring into the white cupboard.

No music to listen to, no seat to sit on, just the job of holding the door open. No phones allowed, just holding that door open, looking at a white wall, under a fluorescent light.

Randomly, I would place either a black square or a black circle directly where they will be looking for a couple of hours, sometimes once a day, sometimes once a month.

I have always wondered how long someone could do this for. I feel 40k would be a fair wage for that role.

This time last year I was getting through a couple of bottle of whisky a week, plus saturday afternoon cocktails, and a few beers here and there.

Went at this pace for most of the first six months of 2014.

Since then, I have the odd beer once or twice a month, normally less..

I feel a lot better, I’m not wasting my days feeling like shit, I can ride further, faster, lost weight.

It was the right decision, I would knock it on the head completely, other than I enjoy the odd pint at a local restaurant here that imports fancy beers on tap.

It has certainly made me happier as well.

^ Last place of work for the first year charged in $, salaries paid in $ so all ok.

Part way through the year government had passed a law stating that all companies had to charge in local currency for services.

Summertime came, and the local currency crashed losing 33% on the dollar.

Salaries still paid in dollars, school fees paid in local currency, oh dear, what a cock up.

    Cost the owners a fortune.

Mushroom season – having just drank a couple of cups of particularly potent mushroom tea, and going outside to chat to the lads next door, the door shut behind me, locking me out.

Option 1 – get in the car and race 14 miles across the city to my folks, get a spare key and get back without becoming a dribbling mess, or freaking out at my folks house. Car keys were in my pocket

Option 2 – bust the window and open the door

option 3 use a hasp to reach through the letter box and turn the yale lock…thankyou handy man neighbour next door.

“not to worry mate, that would have been a shit trip knowing you are locked out”

I think I’d be fixing that with a bloody great boulder at the entrance.

I am sure you can get in bother for having those painted white stones on the verge outside the house, is that not correct? If they damage a car when they are parking.

You work 200m away from where you live and still drive to your job?

If I am going out for the day, or have meetings in another city yes, how else would I get there?

So, having a ‘double space’ at your home is a ‘perk of the job’???

Company provided housing, so yes. Saves me having to put any effort into my parking and can just leave my car in my own space without any consideration for anybody else

    Xylene

I have two parking spaces that are mine these days, one at the village and one at work, both within 200m of each other.

After a long day of meetings in the city, I got in around 12am to find my neighbour, one of my staff, in my space at home. Everybody else has a free for all, I have a double space. I could fit another car in, but it’s a perk of the job.

I had to park on a bit of grass next to my space, that was wet from the rain, with uncut long grass. As I got out, my suit jacket fell into the grass, on picking it up the trousers inside fell into a puddle full of mud

By the time I had got in I was livid that she had dared park in my space….I was going to….

Her partner had done it dropping the car off, and hadn’t realised it was my space.

Strange how such an odd thing can piss you off as parking.

Rolling mums car down the street and writing it off, running her brand new car into the rear end of another car two weeks later – felt a bit sick.

I left my classroom to speak to another teacher at break time. I was only walking 20m down the corridor, so left my room unlockd.

On returning, a student with serious social and behavioral issues was in the cupboard. I had been told by he had possibly been stealing reward stickers previously, and the reward stickers were in teh cupboard.

I instructed said student to move to the other side of the classroom while I checked the cupboard. All stickers were there.

As I walked back, I realised that there was something being projected onto the screen, and I stopped and looked for moments, I couldn’t compute what I was seeing.

And then I realised, there on the screen, was someone being double penetrated. I jumped over the desk and closed it down while shouting at the student to sit at a table where he was in plain sight of the open door.

I let the room making sure I could still see him and called for assistance from my line manager, who didn’t know what to do, so called for the head of the department.

He arrived, and told me that in the last management meeting, ICT had been told do start doing sweeps of staff pc’s to make sure everything was above board.

I needed to report this to the head of ICT and the head of the behaviour unit.

This all happened within 2-3 minutes, at which point the bell rang for break to finish, and the kids were there.

That sickening feeling magnified when I realised that if I hadn’t gone back straight away, if that chat with the other teacher had lasted longer, I would have had 20 of the wildest students in school walking into my room, to see a lady being stuffed by two cocks.

I reported it to head of ICT, and behaviour. I knew that I would receive a letter of management advice from the head.

Which I did. Before receiving the letter of management advice, I asked my head of department, if I should question them as to why PornHub was allowed on the school network, and was advised to shut up and take the warning.

The bollocking was pleasant enough, I held my hands up and said yes I should have locked my pc and door. The head of the school was appalled that nothing had been done to the boy, and would find out why not.

I got my letter, and that was that……

6 months later just as I was leaving, the boy, was caught watching porn in ICT class, in the library, on the same website…….

After I left, I bumped into the behaviour unit manager and asked him why nothing had been done about it and was told the following.

Because the school had allowed a minor access to adult material at school, the child protection issues were huge, ICT manager and the school would have been strung up, as would I.

As the student was a bit of a knacker, he didn’t want to get in any trouble, nothing more was said about the incident. Other than my warning internally.

Never did get an answer as to why Porn Hub was avaiable, possibly the head liked to fap in his office on a lunch time.

If we ever have a ‘tell us how corrupt schools are in the UK ‘ thread, I have dozens of appalling tales from one school.

Been with Mrs Q 10 years, married 7, yesterday, was the anniversary, I forgot again. I blame the 5 minute wedding over lunch time and the minimal impact on my wallet that reduced the memory of it all.

She was a cracker when I met her, now, well, small elephants move more gently and a brick wall is more likely to change its mind.

I don’t know what life would be like without her, but there are days where I would give it a go.
