Good question: Is this going to be followed by a thread about being caught going into the ladies toilets at John Lewis’s?

Usually a symptom of a badly fitted inner tube.

I shall tell the shop that.

But then I couldn’t use my hand for a couple of days either so, fair enoug

My head was about a foot away from it as I lubed up the chain, ears are still ringing.

Bought a bike from Wheelies a couple of years back, had the mechanical discs upgraded.

First time I ever had clipless pedals as well, riding around my housing estate, first go on the bike, pedalled up the small hill, and rolled down the road, pulled the brakes on coming up to the junction, to have them pull through, with me clipped in for the first time.

Managed to avoid being hit by my neighbour, and bounce onto the grass verge.

    Friday afternoon bike.

I was invited up to Thrunton Woods by a regular on here, to show me around it, with another member who was going around for the first time.

Raul Moat was on the run that night, and the police were everywhere. Even though I was incredibly slow, they were very accommodating. That was the first time I ever met strange men in a woods.

r don’t – I thought they were sh1t driving my rogers speakers – worked well with Ruarks though

I run mine through BW 603s they sound great.

Hold their value well as well. My amp is now 25 years old, and still going strong.

Look for an Exposure Super XX (20) or power amp combo, old amps but amazing sound

The thing that I love about STW is the jump to conclusions that because I used the word ‘management’, someone must be well paid.

Did you know your back was broken before you were told, or did you just feel it hurt a lot?

    ^ I agree.

Three weeks of power lift training before a race, and the holiday cycling, made a huge difference for me. Surprised how much it made.

Now trying to get back into the routine and more than one cycle a week.

5% is damn good, unless your role changes significantly then expecting more is a bit greedy.

Cheers – that is about what I was looking for.

^ thank you. genuinely not a willy waver, i presumed that STW was affluent enough to talk about these things with watch threads etc.

Last job I had in the UK was public sector and that was frozen when I was there. I don’t know if it still is or not.

not a look at me, a genuine interest in what people get as pay rises, helps keep things in perspective for me, which at this moment from 3 posts in I am feeling it was a decent deal.

Interesting choice of bikes – those all city bikes get pretty poor reviews online.

Do retailers read the reviews of the bikes they sell before trying to sell them or just get good deals from manufacturers?

    While on this.

I saw a couple of clips on you tube of what appeared to be a film that looked to be set in wales.

Group of lads driving a car – with some funny banter between them, chavish looks.

I think from reading it holds cult status now, but is fairly recent.

I use Vittoria XN Pro’s (31’s) on my CX bike and weigh around 160lbs, if I go offroad (Quantocks) with much less than 80psi I can guarantee pinch flats.

Have they tried to kill you yet in damp conditions – I loved mine until, they spat me off on a damp road.

Changed to Panaracer Gravel Kings in 28s after which tell me they should be 105psi on the sidewall, no ranges.

I am amazed at the myth built around custom frames

    what is the myth?

For me to get a bike that fits me means importing it myself – this can mean anything between 7% and 30% duty plus 7% tax depending on what robbing customs official I get. Bringing a complete bike in can be 30-100%.

I’m 193cm tall, with freaskishly long legs, and a short body, XL frames on road bikes generally fit my legs, but not my torso.

There are a couple of bike fit places in the city that are reasonably priced – 30 to 50 GBP, that would give me a better idea of the frame dimensions I could look for. I could then spend months pouring over frames and bike specs, not a bad thing to do, order a bike and pick it up in the summer.

Either that I could have someone build a frame for me, sneak all the component through the post, as customs never seem to tax them, and have my own custom bike – powder coated in some lurid chrome and eye piercing yellow with a purple fizz.

I love my current bike, but it isn’t quite right in fit, and I’ve bought, stems, seat posts, bars new tape etc several times now, but it’s still not quite there.

Besides, I want to use my shipping allowance in the summer to bring my old original voodoo wanga over with me

At least if you catch something you can blame it on the hot tub
