I will get the engineers to see if there is a way to put some sort of three short blasts on the fire bell – certainly better than trying to find a CD to play.

WTF is a lock down procedure?

A procedure put in place to safeguard staff, students and other employees if an intruder, or something of danger to their well being is on site or in the building.

Hear the song, drop the door blinds, lock the door, get up against the wall one the same side of the door and wait for the all clear

Only one bell type for fire alarm. I do have a security team, I once saw them chase a feral cat away.

I have been trying to work out if a wireless alarm system would work with panic buttons, but, each corridor is 55m long, 3 sets of corridors, plus two buildings a further 100m away, a canteen, gym and swimming pool.

We have an insecure site just now, currently planning on fencing it all in this year.

A lot of procedures have been put in place such as this one, but not always though through, current procedure predates me by 6 years or so.

We have a firetv stick. I like it, but we also got amazon prime to test it out, and I like that as well.

Stream movies using plex, and casting to it, plus I get the apps.

Didn’t get apple tv, it was too spendy.

The EU is unique, nothing like it exists anywhere else in the world and frankly no one is trying to copy the model. There is a reason for that.

I give you ASEAN and the next steps where free(er) movement of migrants is on the books. Although chances of it ever actually happening are not good. 2017 is in theory the year it is fully implemented. I am sure chewk knows more than me

^ I did, numerous times, I’ve even pointed him in directions of suitable positions where he may be able to ‘preach’ his style. However to no avail.

I’ve given him advice on his CV, helped rewrite application letters, even offered mock interviews, as has another member of staff.

None of this is last minute or too late, he knows his contract wasn’t renewed because of his performance, which had been reviewed previous year, however I have never to this point simply said, go find another career, yet.

Go through with the appeal, but bear in mind that future employment may be challenging.

While references are written, there are so many phonecalls between heads about staff off the record, that even if it looks like a sure thing, a single call can wipe it out.

Your partner should have been informed at every step of the process that she was going to fail. Her tutors at university should be able to offer advice, as should her union.

Can’t abide by bullying heads. Although they did inspire me to become one, a head, not a bully.

I stood up to a corrupt system, and ended up being told to move on or be moved on. I chose to move on and got a glowing reference as it was international. If it had been local or UK, I suspect it would have been very different.

^ complicated contracts, politics, terms, and a vicious labour court that I am almost on first name terms with the head judge.

Not UK based, and assessing the damage that could be caused, vs staffing, and replacing, close supervision and monitoring with support was deemed preferable. His wife is also employed….that is a whole other story.

I now have high blood pressure, and more grey hair.

I’m probably overly loyal and supportive of staff as well. Not sure if they see it, but I do fight for them in the background a lot.

the remaining staff wonder if they might find themselves in the same position one day.

That is part of my remit. Move forward and remove if necessary.

A member of staff, not the strongest, made a comment a few weeks back to my second in command that was a bit too spiteful, about him leaving. My second in command reminded him that the spotlight shifts easily.

there must be some elements that he is ok at?

He is exceedingly passionate about his subject area, and feels that everybody should learn how he now understands it.

He describes it as having an epiphany one day at university and realising what he had missed out on at school and nobody else should experience that.

He is a born again Christian, quite fundamental one (first big argument at work was between him and another member of staff, also a christian, when he claimed the Nepalese earthquake was gods will) and although the Christianity doesn’t come into his work, I do wonder if the experience of being born again, and his so called epiphany at university, cloud his professional judgement and understanding. Almost as if everybody should experience it as he sees it and therefore the vast majority can’t, because it was his experience that changed his understanding of his subject specialism.

What I should say is he has the most positive outlook on life of anybody I have ever met. Even when shirking responsibility he is cheery and positive. Just unfortunately he is stubborn and stupid, never a good combination.

^ unfortunately, other than my boss, 100 miles awat, who has told me to leave well alone, I am the HR person, along with many other roles.

Exit interview never thought of that – I suppose I could invite him into my room, and then immediately ask him to leave, that might sort it out.

When we moved into our new house, first evening I popped out to do some shopping to receive a call from Mrs Q that we were under attack from a swarm of angry bees who had been attracted by the light.

Got back to find 1000s of bees all over the house and garden. After battling with them and the spray, turning the lights out, we all left the house for the night and called the bee people from work.

What I had thought was an old bee hive hanging from the tree, was in fact a 1m+ long bee nest, a good 20cm thick at it’s base, covered in bees, from the ground it looked like it was just dark brown and dead, turns out the dark brown was covered in little curious bees.

Bee guys burnt the nest. Couldn’t really leave it there with the swarm going mad whenever the lights were on, and it was too high up to cut down.

    Looked like this photo

Our new cat peed and pooed on our sofa, I found it at 5am, by 5:02am I had cut the offending piece of sofa material away with the bread knife and eliminated the problem happening again. Cleaned the floor underneath.

Around 6pm on returning home and seeing the hole, I had thoughts that spraying it with vinegar initially might have been a better idea.

^^ I was considering pouring some sealant in and seeing if that worked, but at 100PSI I think it might find its way out and squirt in my eye.

^ I am hopefully going to find the perfect tires. I assume the thorns are from our estate, as for two years I have ridden up and down the main road here never once picking up a thorn puncture.

^ I’ve seen a few comments about using toe clips, I assume that the pedals must go around on the stoker cranks if the front is going, there is no freewheel setup.

Just under 600 quid for the cannondale with a newer groupset on it.

I’ve given running a go a few times as an exercise and every time I have done it I have been left thinking that was rubbish.

I’m 17st just now, had a go the other day, and even at 37 years old, I still cannot for the life of me work out how to pace myself, reduce my stride without feeling really uncomfortable or simply enjoy it.

I planned to give it another go after getting back in this evening, try and build in a short 3 or 4k jog around the estate, but I imagine it is more likely that by the time I get home, I would rather think about running than actually doing it.

Sat at the base of a UNESCO world heritage site, locked in my office with the blinds down, a/c cranked up full, ignoring people knocking at the door so I can simply get the last three weeks work which has been interrupted by various things done in the next two days………….but alas procrastination is also causing me to post on here. I will swap all this for motivation please.

The view is wonderful, my drive home, is fantastic, mountains and such like, marred only by there being other people around.

I’m surprised Quirrel. I live in Thailand and Thais use a bum gun. I never have but there’s one in every loo in our house and every one I’ve been to.

I’m still here, I assume the fat kentuckian is not, he was so obese he had little arms like a tyranosaurus rex.

I love my bum guns, although with the high pressure from the pump it can often lead to internal and external cleaning.

May I suggest making friends with him, getting invited around to his house then pissing in his sink?

Whilst living in Thailand in the mid 2000s I had the misfortune to meet a rather obese American from Kentucky who carried around a sponge in his pocket for wiping his ass after taking a dump.

He claimed that he had picked this up from Asians who lived in America Koreans, Thais and Cambodians or so he claimed.

I was rather disturbed by the fact that this man kept a sponge in his pocket that had been used for cleansing himself.

The fact that the sponge was dry in his pocket also concerned me. I was unsure if he wet it before going to the toilet or afterwards. It must have meant that he had to at some point put it damp into his pocket.

Have you ever heard of anybody else doing this?

What is worse is I also remember him wiping his forehead with when he used to sit and sweat in his unairconned office.

A piece of foamy sponge much like one of those yellow scourers but it didn’t have any souring bit on it for obvious reasons.
