Merino wool buff is the kiddy, its longer than the original buff, so you can double it up around the ears when worn as a beanie for super warmth and its soft enough to go under your lid and still be comfortable.
Oh and you don’t have to wash merino as much as other fabrics, so its great for commuting etc

No prizes for guessing who I work for,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thinking of dusting down the old mapboard myself as it go’s…..
Always liked the midlandstrailquest events myself, 60-100 riders, super competitive if you want though, with sometimes upto 10 people at the front, all with the ability to win on that day.
I like Dark n White too, great locations, even better if killian and Steve don’t turn up and give everyone else a chance 😉

I had a ganglion or X-Files lump as my mates called it, apeer in 1997. i didn’t do anything about it and since then it just comes and go’s as it feels necessary!! I guess its abit odd, but its never hurt or anything… I wouldn’t bother worrying about it, just get out and ride

Personally, I do my harder rides alone or with the lads or even smash a lap solo first while she sorts herself out if its a trailcentre, then just keep it chilled when i ride with her, take pics, practice manuals, let her go first on decents and then play catch up.

Mind you its not the other way round when we go surfing, she rips and I look like a chump to the point where im kind of dreding our snowboard trip later this year, “have you got your own folding shovel honey?” “no but I can use my fist just as well, if you make me look to bad, darling”

They are fun, chilled out events, that don’t cost much and get you to ride trails you might not normally go for.
However, its not really a race, unless you can nav! MTBO has way harder nav than trailquest (which are genrally os maps), it don’t matter how quick you can ride if your going the wrong way……. I organised one a few years ago and took great pleasure in seeing a certain “Mr Fleeman, of road fame” get his ass handed to him by people of 50+ years who haddent gone over 20mph. It really puts folks on an even field…
    Enjoy,,,,,,,,,,,,

Years ago iIbought a GT I-drive off of ebay late one night after a few beers thinking it would make a great “do it all bike”, it didn’t….
I did however make, peak district rides very hard work, local rides slow, lots of bad sounds after a few rides….. sold it quick and deleted all memorys of it,, until now, oh bugger

Thanks Neil re cove, I haddn’t really thought of them.

As for better quality,im wanting to have a better build off of a higher quality frame, thus a nicer bike. The on-one is a cheapo starter costing the same as a good quality pair of treds and tubes. You get what you pay for, right?

Yeah, I think you could be right. I know I now prefer singletracks to fireroad, the more tech the better and im getting right into maps!
    Cheers

Thanks for all the advice etc, we are going to take a sparks builder type bloke with us for a second visit and also check out the history, don’t want an Indian burial ground to rise up one night, while im out in the workshop building a winter bike up or something. Besides I need to leave room for a local chav burial ground in the garden (just in case 😉 )

While out riding on the Malverns last weekend, once we were both suitably covered in mud spray, I made an excuse to stop, got down on one knee, pulled the ring out of my camelbak and said the magic words,,
She said yes, (which was nice) and then we dropped off the side, down a sweet single track to the cafe…………

I did the racer cat this year, as id not got the paddling cert allowing me to race in expert.
Having to choose a bike for 38miles of hilly road riding followed by 36mile of off and on road mix was prop the winning factor.
I thought about switching tires half way through, using a hybrid all sorts of things..
In the end i rode a carbon road bike with touring tires that just cleared the frame. The single track was abit rocky and all the 2 day guys had tour it up, so i was lucky to not snake bite, (id say i lost 5-10min to my hard tail off road but made up way more on the road)
That race/event is prob more about bike choice and the last run section than people think…
Will be there again next year amd will run tubs on a road bike and adjust pressures in and out of rocky sections
