Thanks for the advice and guidence folks, sounds like its gonna be quite tricky to get the right second hand ride without abit of leg work, but thats ok. (scruff, cheers for the check list dude)

I must say at first looks the Specialized Status is a gem, but that YT is also sweet as. I can’t find a current uk importer for KTM though, I know they did have one a couple a seasons ago as a mate rode xc for them, but they sunddenly went funny and he lost his bike mid way through the year,,,,,

like flange says though, do i really need a 8-10inch monster for mini dh and regional B level stuff or would something smaller still cut the mustard and not snap in half?

Its a fake isnt it? speeded up i mean, not a fake cyclist 🙄

The bike isnt behaving in the air as it would normal speed when it fails away from the rider. If you watch any good footage of that type of riding, you will see what i mean…

Q, Was it that bad? A, In a comedy way, yes! Kind of fast show, Enfield type stuff,,,,,,,,
It had more, don’t do that signs than anywhere on the planet, the old buzzard who ran the show, was an total legend.
You sort of felt on the spot when you tried to buy anything, a bit like being called into the bosses office for a “chat” (just not sure how it was going to play out)

I was my monday morning tipple a few years ago too!

Quad power was just the thing to get me to the pool before work, but as stated above, there were a few bob issues, that followed.

Tried it once before a peaks epic, now thats not a smart move!!!

Scottfitz, that looked a great event from the video and the course looked like fun, well worth £20 id say,,,,,

Would you say it would make a good first dh type event for a novice at DH (me) before having a pop at the gravety enduro type stuff, given im riding a 5″ trail bike not a full-on dh rig?

    Cheers Macca

I’ve got last years one. The only changes ive made to it are small,
(SLX double n bash, dropper post, wider bars, better tires) Lighter tubeless wheels are on the cards though…….

Its great fun on the single track and tricky stuff and plenty slack enough to point it down hill.
Infact I bought it with the intention of doing gravity enduro events on it.
Its not a bad weight for genral xc riding and trail center fun, just bob’s abit to much for my liking on climbs when your out the saddle (i’ve messed about with the shock loads and still can’t seem to fix it so i guess that just how it rides?)

    hope that helps

Its a proper beast and involves abit of luck with the weather, admitedly ive only ran it and only one way, but id say hats off to people doubling it, so big up Rotwell,Joe and Matt Carr who i think may have done it too.

My 456 summer Season is currently in winter season, built single speed with carbon rigid forks (100mm equiv)
It rides nice, harsh but nice. Good on the twisty single track and climbs as and for once its quite light (24lbs)
    Go for it,,,,

Thanks for all the feed backs,

I’ve never had a frame break on me since 91 when I first started mountain biking, including a giant CFM2, scott fx2 and many very small
alu h/tails with crazy amounts of seat post out, as was the way back then……………….

But i’ve never had ti before.

I think the Soda sounds like it will do nicely, if i can get one to fit my 6,3″ness.
Are they really made in the uk as ive been told or is that abit of, hummm, my beard etc etc

I’m thinking of entering a 10man team in Mountain mayhem for my stag do, a mix of bikers and none bikers, beers and strippers, should be a hoot……….
We did a good one for a mate a few years back, “the ebay £20 bike stag do pub ridel.” As it says on the tin, each buy a bike, with a max value of £20, get them delivered to the best man’s house, who then brings them up to start point in his van of said pub crawl (untested and unchecked) mount up and all hell is let loose, helmets and armor advised.
or you could go to FOD

I ran mine as a trail bike last summer. With 130 forks, dropper post and 1×9 set up, it was great for trail centres, though a bit weighty on the ups (31lbs).

Its now built into a fully ridged winter single speed. With carbon forks, cheap alloy post and 1×1 set up, its great for winter mud pluggin and such like, 25lbs.

I’ve seen one raced at last years UCI 4cross, proving you can build it into just about anything with in reason

A good budget do it all frame

The Fusion X Enduro 1 series look/sound more xc trail and h/tail friendly, so will probably use the 456 summer season with 130 fork, dropper post, 2×10 etc.

Where as the 661 series, looks abit more gravity assisted, so will use the T120s with dropper post, 1×10 etc,,,,,,,

Scott Scale will go on ebay…………..

I’d personally say, its a time thing not a distance thing.

1hr hard off road run = 3hr tuff off road ride or 5hr steady road ride. 😳

There used to be a race in Wales, man v horse v bike, over a 25m xc mountain route, I think Nick Craig may have even won it once or twice 8) ………….

Sadly Its now just man v horse now, due to access issues 🙁

Not able to go to this one, but would like to know, which track are they using?
As I’m looking at trying some mini dh events, before doing my first Gravity Enduro Series event, are they a good stepping stone or more full-on than the enduro style courses?

Bottom line: can you do them on a 5″ trail bike?

    Cheers Mac

Elfinsafety sounds like a genuine person to me, hence why id help him out with a product.
RealMan your abit of a goose for thinking that way really and making a comment like that, what gives?

    xterramac

Elfinsafety: OK,lets sort this, tell you what im going to do. As your not convinced by what myself and the other singletrack users have said. The next time your at an event and the Buff crew are there or if your at a trail centre and you see one of our vans, id like to invite you to come over and make yourself know to me, where I will personally present you with an Original Buff of your very own,(made from our own micro fiber, which we knitt in our factory) free of charge.
That way you will get to find out for yourself, why the Original Buff’s are so much better than the not so identical cheap copys out there….
    How’s that sound?

    xterramac
    Free Member

First things first, there is only one “Original Buff”.
Yes there are now cheap copy products out there, but thats what they are, CHEAP COPY’S!
Buff is a global company who still make there products in Spain, where they began making Original Buff’s amost 20 years ago.
So dispite 15 or so copy products out there on the UK market, even with 3 for a tenner offers and such like, Original Buff sales are not suffering. As most people know, in life, you get what you pay for. The Original Buff is made from a mico fiber, which is breathable, high wicking and has good wind resistance. 3 things you need from your cycling headwear and 3 things the cheap far easten made copy products wont give you. So a few more £’s = alot more comfort when your buying multi fuctional head wear.

As for give aways, yes Custom Buff’s are often given away, as part of the marketing, event sponsorships and because the guys at Buff are generally a good bunch of guys, who live n breath Buff and the Buff lifestyle….

Never really had any problems with folks on the trail, but have had more times than i can remember on the roads…………..

    Highlights inc,

Being offered a punch up, “away from the road where no can see!”, which funny enough i turned down……….

A takeway thrown at us, from a car that couldnt wait for 200yards until it was safe to over take, think it was sweet n sour rice based….

A large group of blokes on those mod style scooters, swarmed us up, like a break away group being cought inside the last km, offered us a “right kickin” and such like, for what we said to there mate about 6 miles ago at the cafe? We hadden’t been to the cafe, they only had to see we weren’t ridding Italian bikes…..

Road riding is propber bob when it comes to getting grief for something you shouldn’t, leaves you feeling abit like the A-Team
(don’t just take my word, check out some youtube footage of roadbike rage, shocking!)

I started a project at the begining of this year:
Not a complex one, I just set out to ride all of the red routes at every one the UK trail centres in one year….

North Face Trail at Grizedale was a big let down given the area and the hype around it when it was first built. To much boardwalk not enough flow, for my liking……………

Thetford was not really like the man made trail I hoped for, it was more like any other woodland trail found in any village, only flatter and less natural feeling, i achually got bored riding round Thetford…………………

At Wharncliffe, i think the locals must have moved the signs, as all i found was zero flow, deep mud and a trail that felt very unfinished after the first 500meters gave the impression it was going to be ok, before it just vanished into nothing! The DH there is ment to be world class, so id have thought the trail might be a gem and not a turd….

Your son’s fault id say, he put his car there, im sure there were other spaces with a much lower reversing idiot risk attached to them, if he had taken more time/care. Let him sort it out and learn a valuable lession, “this world is sh#t ran by bast##ds and full of people who don’t think about what they are doing, don’t be one of them”

“a man is a success if he gets up in and morning and goes to bed at night and inbetween does the things that make him happy” Bob Dylan

Tomm my boy, ive lived that very quote to the hilt and sometimes beyond. Im 35 and only just coming to the end of my first year of whats been called by some a real job or real work. Before now, I always just followed my dreams, raced full time, travelled, partyed hard and worked as and when required to keep the dream alive. Im not a bum or hippy type, I just have lived my life at a pace that has suited me, yet Ive still managed to get my own gaff, motor, mrs and all that other stuff, that mates and folks have been worried about missing the so called boat, on. But most of all my boy, ive got no regrets.

Live it, or forever end up wondering what could have been ………..

Topangarider: Try a UV buff, as they wick better and tend to be popular with them who “run warm”

Any thoughts on the new Hood buff folks?????????????
