What I’m trying to get at here is, that anyone age 30-39 can currently enter sport or masters if they have a BC license and choose the race best suited to them at that time. So a harder/faster/longer race if they want too.
But if the Masters gets binned, then those people aged 30-39 will have to do a season in the sport cat and finish in the top5 or 10 (not sure which), in order to move into the expert cat to be able to complete in the same level of harder/faster/longer event, but not until the following year.

This is assumption based on current rules though, so could be totally different when they say.

njee20 did one in 2010 but was told had to ride sport, back row of grid, finished an embarrassing 5th. I was planning and training to ride masters in 2015, hence my annoyance.

njee20 would you want to ride expert with 100+ if you weren’t gridded in the first 5 rows? Top masters and expert, are similar level yes, but still way off elite top20.

Don’t buy a cheap one, like my mate did. As it exploded and sent metal and boiling hot coffee all over the kitchen (luckily he was in the other room at the time…) Apparently it was quite a bang and quite scary

I wanted a similar bike to what you are after _tom_, (for me it was, something that I could take out on a long ride with the lads,OS type rides up to 5hrs but also hit the Welsh trails and even ride the mini DH at rogate, fod etc) In the end I bought a mega tr off crc on one of those sale days (£1500 a real steal!). I got the biggest one they do, xl? I’m 6,3 and it fits well.
Id say it climbs no worse then my old whyte t120,its just 3 lbs heavier and limited gearing when its really steep. But its as good as my old DH bike (sunday) when going down hill and through the rough stuff. I’ve not done anything really nuts on it, but I think like someone else said, I would be quicker down a mini DH track (padded up with a number on), than my old DH bike, the back end feels way more than 130mm when your riding it, so your not afraid to push things.
    Hope it helps,
    Macca

” if in doubt, knock one out” Usually makes the urge go away! 😉

When away on business or at conventions, you do see married guys chasing women like its sport (probably is to some?) You have to ask yourself, how can I trust these guys in business, if they can’t even be honest in there family life?????????? Sometimes it pays to be a massive wa#ker

10-20% fitness, 30% nutritional, 50-60% mental. Have done a few of those kinds of events and it can be surprising the type, shape and age of the people that finish. They are a great place for killing off triathlete’s and the “all-the-klobber-what-a-nobber” bunch.
Just remember to smile and try to forget you paid to do it. 😉

After killing my 29er h/tail very quickly and reading this thread, its fingers crossed crc have one left at the end of the month as im after a jack of all trades bike with a desire to be ridden hard over rough stuff whenever possible and the TR has ticked the box very nicely. Thanks to all TR owners who shared, macs

I know what you mean, if you let it get to you, you almost feel like a part time litter picker!!!! I take a healthy interest in doing my bit, for example I don’t stop at laybys to pick up mattresses and take them to the dump but always do grab 3 peace’s minimum when I visit the beach and whatever I can fit in my pack when mtb’ing or hiking.

Yeah I hear ya, It gets me that, thrown on the ground or not, how many people choose to ride past with a “not my problem, it wasn’t me so f##k it attitude…” If people are not part of the solution then in my eyes for this, they are part of the problem. 👿

Had a nice day riding at Cwmcarn on sunday, only down side was the amount of trash left by riders on the trails, mainly the new trail. 5 gel wrappers and 2 small plastic water bottles (buxton type) collected. If I found room to carry it out then I’m sure who ever ate and drank the contents could have……. Should there be more bins at the trails or is that just giving in?

I have a lightweight carbon xc 29er as my only mtb and its fine for everything except the obvious “DH, dirt jumps etc” However, it has no real character when doing anything other than going flat out on the sort of riding you find in an xc race…… Not surprising I know, as its made/designed for that purpose. In the past, ive had bikes like, santa cruz superlight, whyte t120 and On one 456 that have been far better all rounder’s and have heaps of character (ability to jump, take wild lines, regain control of when things get out of shape) So I guess I’m saying, if your into energy gels and high HR readings or just going flat out, get an XC 29er. If your into being a jack of all but master of none then don’t. For the record, I’m keeping mine but getting a second bike for trail centre and fun/chilled rides.

Dunno, but I did a track stand watched it unfold then rode past him as he pushed his bike up it and said “on your right” much to his annoyance

Just saw the event as a nice catered ride round with some mates, a few laughs, a few nice bikes to check out, etc etc But I must now have a moan about the guy who, lost his temper with the 2 girls who didn’t move out of his way quick enough on the steepest part of the climb up to the first feed. Thought that was a bit off, I mean I can understand being frustrated at having to dab a foot and not make the climb “clean” but no need for such blue language really young man. The girls looked quite upset by it. A simple “on your left” would have probably done the trick!

Good point, why was I there…. I was doing for the charity, “hills for flat areas” They make small hills from dirt and rocks in flat areas like Cambridge, so that people who live in there can safely learn to ride down hills without the risk of swerving all over the place and endangering other trail users if they travel to anywhere with a hill.

Obviously the Audi comment was made in ref to thread of last week. I don’t need to race my car because I race my bike, providing traffic allows

for the record, people are free to ride as slow as like on descents in my opinion, it doesn’t make them all idiots. Just the ones who see being passed with a warning as wrong

Sheepish or not, im not gonna piss a copper off during at an event am I!!! Did you see it slowing me down after that? I didn’t notice anyone laughing, saw a lot of other confused people as to why I was singled out and told to “hang on a minute”.

ha ha this is brilliant… awptechnical I hope you have buggered off back to Cambridge where you belong and are planning to stick to the flat because that decent was hardly more than a gravel track with the old pot hole and hardly worth mentioning as a course highlight. For your information the copper was warning me of a land rover coming up the track as he could see I was going to make full use the so called decent and didn’t want an accident. FYI I’ve ridden mountain bikes competitively for over 25years, so I can assure you I was quite comfortably in control thanks, hence the “on your right” warning (pretty standard call for anyone who wants to continue past on a decent or going into singletrack). I thought the idea was to enjoy the ride and therefore enjoy what decents there were.
    Oh and your an idiot!!!
