Awesome power and sounded so when up close. My favourite diesel locomotive of that era, without any doubt.

@Educator. Brilliant! Thank you, and that’s electric cars crossed off my list, for now at least.

Still ….ing freezing in Huddersfield. Oh, wait a minute the sun’s just shown up. No, false alarm, it’s gone again!

On my second Fiesta Zetec S and waiting for next year’s revamp for my third. They do the job for me: reliable, great road holding, responsive, relatively economical and I can get the bike in easily if I remove front wheel.

Bloody cold, grey and miserable here in Huddersfield. Global warming obviously doesn’t apply here!

@ BillOddie. The Pure One Flow is my choice, not stereo but no frills and OK for the kitchen.

Listening to Radio Paradise as I write this. If you do tune in for the first time please be aware that the the music is played in genre segments – it could be Indie Rock in one and 50s Rock & Roll the next, or even some classical. Their eclectic choice has introduced me to lots of new music, which I have subsequently got into and purchased.

Yes, if you are hoping to sell your 26″ specific parts at a later date. If not, go for it!

Do any of you remember the treatment that Bog got at the hands of Captain Hadley in Shawshank Redemption?

Those poor little girls, this story just broke my heart.

I have a Fiesta Zetec S. I like it. Great cornering, but not quite as fast as some at the price. A Fiesta will certainly have better residuals than the Suzuki, I think.

In the novel ‘In The Lake in The Woods’ by Tim O’Brian John kills all the houseplants with a kettle of boiling water FWIW. Not a bad read, actually.

I’m nesh (Yorkshire term, I think) and only wear short sleeves when it’s an absolute heatwave, long sleeves every time for me and bib longs most of the time as well. 🙂

Hermes, here. Cheap, easy drop off at the local shop and so far no problems. BTW, no need to pay the extra £1 for a signature on low value stuff as the online tracking information itself gives proof of delivery.

Works well for me using the existing XT cage etc. Shifting is very good using an otherwise full XT setup, although the big jump onto the 42t seem like a bit of a big step to me.

Cocoa powder in boiling water for me (definitely not hot chocolate!). If you use sugar in your diet it won’t suit you, but I don’t so it’s fine for me and has health giving properties, allegedly (?)

I bought my ex-girlfriend a bike as she expressed a desire to ride with me. She was actually in great physical shape and took to riding from the start and we had some great rides together. Later on, though, she spent a lot of time in front of the mirror before each ride and said her helmet made her hair look a mess. Turned out she had started seeing someone else! At least I kept the bike 🙂 There’s a cautionary tale here somewhere.

More interested in the fact that mumsnet has no swear filter

Me too! Are we all children on here, I wonder, or am I missing something?

If you can find a Genesis Fortitude Race, that should do it. I found one, had the frame powdercoated and it looks lovely and rides brilliantly – I love it!

Occasionally have this problem in a recent Ford, which I put down to a sticking tumbler pins in the lock. Put the key in the ignition and give it a sharp tap on the end with the heel of your hand, works for me every time

I’m assured it’s not gonna need surgery unless it gets worse.

My poor old mum had trapped nerves caused by osteoarthritis in her neck, leading numbness and other problems in her arms. She was eventually advised to have surgery to relieve the trapped nerves. She agreed, but after the (botched) operation was paralysed from the neck down!

The arthritis seems to be hereditary as my own neck is now similarly affected and very painful. I have limited head movement as a consequence, which particularly affects my cycling enjoyment. I wouldn’t let a surgeon anywhere near my neck!

Sunrace 11-42t for me after going the expander route previously. It’s not quite the smooth shifting of XT, but very close.

An interesting article in the April/May 2016 edition of Cycle (The Cycling UK/CTC mag) on this very subject.

I’m currently in the process of getting quotes for a double electric garage door, for no other reason that I’m changing all my windows to grey and the garage has to match! My current one is sectional, not roller, very well insulated and it feels secure and I may replace with the same. My fitter is offering an Alluguard roller door as an alternative, but I’m worried about security. Anyone using this particular roller door? Sorry OP, but I hope this is relevant.

I recently fitted a MX3 11-42t. Changes are not quite as silky smooth as the XT 11-36 it replaced, but not far off and I’m very happy with it.

OP, you are doing just fine. Run slow, run easy and gradually increase the distance. No need to even consider upping your speed, this will occur naturally as you get fitter.

Had a Samsung Ecobubble for three years now, it came with a five year warranty and has worked just fine, and it wasn’t expensive either.

Black for my powdercoat at Triple S in Bingley. My bike is covered in mud half the time so why would I need a special colour, and any stone chips can be easily fixed without any colour matching issues.
