There’s a Genesis Fortitude Adventure frame on eBay at the moment, which would build into a great bike packing 29er. I have the Fortitude Race version and I absolutely love it.

    20 year old Marantz PM66KI

I just learned that the great Ken Ishiwata died last month – RIP . He designed some lovely stuff over the years. I had a Marantz CD63 KI in the early 90s.

My Genesis Fortitude Race. My favourite bike – I’m currently having a clear out and this is the only one I’m keeping.

Before reaching for the shovel to despatch an injured cat you might like to read about this RSPCA prosecution back in 2006.

I have a Fortitude Race, a truly great frame if, like me, you wanted a simple, robust but lively bike. I had mine powder coated stealth black when the orange got too tatty. Love it!

ATC SCM 40 Actives. I’ve just got these having traded down from 50s to suit my new, smaller listening room. I would never go back to passives.

Based on my own experience, that’s all. My microwave oven interrupts WiFi signals – no big deal on the internet radio, but a bit annoying if I’m watching a movie or listening to my hi-fi. My whole house now has ethernet wired to every room. Simple to fit if you know what you’re doing, so why settle for less?

As above: run all your ethernet/aerial/satellite etc cables through conduit as the best option for future proofing, and of a diameter large enough to take multiple cables. Ignore any suggestions for wireless, it isn’t stable enough for serious applications.

I met Jimmy Savile on a Leeds bound train as very young schoolboy. He was still a Radio Luxembourg DJ back then and I got his autograph – long since lost, but I remember he wrote his name as $avile.

Beware, the basic cost may just be the start. I was quoted £30k for my 4.5m x 4.5m single storey extension in Huddersfield, but one job led to another and I eventually spent nearly £70K!

Good luck, OP, and let us all know how you get on please. I need one, and can just about ride without too much pain, but too scared to go ahead with it!

Never try to explain your dietary choice to meat eaters – and you’ll be asked again and again – just smile and change the subject!

Best wishes, OP. My eyes filled up when I read the bit about your little boy’s questions. I hope everything works out well for all of you.

If the BBC ever needs to recruit another political correspondent they need look no further than this STW thread. Love it – this even beats the referendum thread – keep it going guys. 🙂

Great tip, OP, but why did I give all my 26″ tubes away?

Still subscribing to Private Eye, if that can count as a magazine!

On a recent holiday the Americans we met called us Brits and, by the same token, when referring to Pakistanis, called them Paks. Anyone offended here?

I got an unsolicited invitation for adult entertainment through this site today. She looked nice, but thought it best to get rid of her and run Malwarebytes et al.

Interesting how these threads develop, isn’t it? I was sort of with the OP at the start, but now, having seen the size of his van and the damage done, I’m not so sure!

Are you sure xico? It was a ball-ache to fit my CX bike in my Fiesta. And a 29er would be a good bit longer too.

Certain! Just move the front passenger seat forward.

A Fiesta will easily take a 29er with the front wheel off.

Don’t ignore eBay lowball first offers.

I listed a £1450 road bike and someone offered £500, which I politely? rejected. He later drove 200 miles and paid the full price in cash!

So, basically, a DAC + preamp that would then plug direct into my LINN power amp.

    Hi Rachel,

I’m using a Benchmark DAC1 HDR, which does just that, and has a volume control and remote. Was very expensive when new, but secondhand versions can be had for more sensible money.

No because I hate the way they drive.

Exactly. I would never buy one, irrespective of any environmental issues.

Buy something now, wear them in before the event.

Absolutely, don’t try anything new for your marathon, which includes shoes, clothing, food the night before, pre-race food, and race drinks. Try them all out before the event and you should be fine. Good luck!

Oh, and start slowly and ease into it, and don’t be pulled along by the guys around you setting an unsustainable pace.

I would advise WD40 initially, leave for a while, then add neat washing up liquid massaged into the stain. Leave overnight if you can, then wash in the machine as normal.

Last posh black tie do I went to all the ex-public schoolboys (or similarly privaledged) we’re wearing worn out dinner jackets, possibly inherited from their fathers! Turn up in something new and they’ll have your number in an instant. 🙂

I know there are quite a few West Yorkshire folk on here, but next time you need a key cutting go to B&S Locksmiths in Huddersfield. While they are cutting your key take a look around – an absolutely amazing place, and well worth £6 for the visit alone!

This winter I’ve been making my own special mix of chainsaw oil and white spirits.

Yes, mine is chainsaw oil diluted in petrol. Gets the oil where it’s needed, then the petrol evaporates. Clean surplus off the outer surfaces – job done.

    Screwfix for the chainsaw oil.

My 11- 42 Sunrace works faultlessly with a Shimano XT Shadow rear mech. I wouldn’t consider going back to a 2 x front mech, ever!

I sold a virtually brand new road bike to a guy in Kent. He drove up to Huddersfield for it, was here by 9.30 am on a Saturday morning, paid cash and drove straight back. I would have done the same for a similar deal.

A disgraceful treatment of a thoroughly honourable man. I hope Leicester go down now, and Huddersfield Town take their place! 🙂

I stopped trusting the BBC when their news presenters stopped wearing full evening dress, and I wasn’t even born then.
