The laws in the UK are the problem.

Sugar is the issue in my opinion. It’s very easy to overconsume on sugary processed foods.

Try something like the No S diet, but treat it as a lifestyle change rather than a diet. So only two or three meals a day, no snacking and reduce the processed foods.

Snacking has always been my problem, so I’m on two meals a day now over winter to reduce my fat percentage! It takes willpower to change an ingrained habit, such as hard day at work =  Mars bar, walkers crisp and can of coke treat = 550calories. Over a year this is worth 57lb.

Back in the early days I used to spend a lot of money with Wiggle and CRC, but nowadays they are as, if not more, expensive than other retailers.

If they do come up cheap in a google search, as stated above, it is usually an obscure size, or a ‘strange’ colour.

Quite barbaric reading about Hamas just killing all those festival goers. They surely knew there would be retaliation for what they did.

Whats the ridge like compared to Crib goch?

Condolences to the families as well – three fatalities together is very rare.

If that’s the case, and a friend was waiting for her with a car, it doesn’t look good.

I saw this on the BBC website before, just read it here now. Consequently now read some of the twitter, and it does seem odd that she wouldn’t have said something rather than climb on the podium and style it out.

I’m also a bit surprised at the ongoing commenting by the offended runner; sure she’s pissed off but to me she’s gone beyond the original statement of fact and rightful indignation, and the continued commenting and responding to others feels a bit like now putting the boot in, is there some previous beef that is driving this?

I just can’t see the point in cheating in a low key ultramarathon – no or little prize money and it isn’t like it is an olympics qualifier.

The Mel Sykes who was third seems well wound up about it as well – maybe these ultramarathons are more competitive than I thought!😎

No one really knows what substances anyone is taking anyways ?

I got the impression that the marshalls hadn’t actually seen/noticed her get out of the car and just thought she was wanting to quit. Hence the words of encouragement

The article says she told the marshall she had been in a car!

No doubt she used to be an elite runner and still is a very good runner.

How did finding out come by, did she come clean or did someone else report the issue / race organisation spot discrepancies?

What/why are you afraid / fearful of?

    ”Who” is afraid?

When you ask this question, you see two elements within you, your subconscious programming (which works by itself, anxiety, fear…..) and your awareness of it. Sometimes it is very difficult to distinguish between the two, but it’s there.

By not engaging with your subsonscious programming, they get less and less and eventually dissappear, thus removing any inappropriate fear, anxiety etc.

You won’t get rid of normal fear (ie if someone pulled a knife on you – that is a life or death situation). But it will erase things like anxiety at resteraunts etc.

It js the fear of the anxiety that keeps it going. You aren’t afraid of the restraunt, you are afraid of having anxiety at the restraunt.

You consciously need to detach from the anxiety, go to the restraunt, maybe have an anxiety attack, and enjoy the food the best tou can. Anxiety feels awful – but all it is is a feeling. You then gradually desensetize from the anxiety. (It’s just hyper elevated at the moment).

If you stop going because of the anxiety – you then end up inadvertently feeding it.

Don’t fight the anxiety, you can’t win that fight, but you can desensitise yourself from it over tine and it will go away itself.

I had very bad anxiety around 7 years ago but it’s all gone now.

I’ve sat on a M/L in a shop and it felt ok. But it’s not the same as a 3hr road ride test.

    thanks Tired,

Just re-checked and the 2022 TCR has a seat tube angle of 73, which is the same as my medium 2017 model.

The horizontal tt (effective) is 15mm longer and the stem is 10mm longer. I run a 120mm stem on my current medium tcr.

    Am I missing something?

Thanks for the responses. I think the newer TCR may have a shorter seat tube, although the stats don’t say so. The amount of seatpost showing on my 2017TCR Medium looked similar to the seatpost on show on the 2022TCR M/L – which is strange!

I’m tempted to upsize to M/L – but cannnot afford to get it wrong! May therefore have to go for a bike fit?

I think it’s right to call them – however difficult a call it may be. If they made the effort to take time off to travel or come in for an interview, it is the least you can do.

A pet peeve of mine is if you apply for a job and hear nothing back, not even an acknowledgement of recept of application. The applicant may have gone into a bit of effort to prepare an application and then receive zero acknowledgement!!

HR today isn’t what it used to be….

So there maybe is a science behind two or one meal a day to control insulin response?

I read somewhere that stress and anxiety can also raise blood sugar, to provide energy to fight or flight, which in turn raises the insulin response?

Which then comes to caffeine ingestion – whilst black coffee is low in carbs, the adrenaline response it provokes can inadvertently raise blood sugar and then an insulin response?

Anyone monitored their blood sugar after drinking caffeine? Interesting.

I’d say the bus driver – if he had to swerve into the opposite lane to avoid rear ending the flasher. He wasn’t paying due attention.

Builders have accounts at builders merchants which wont be due for 30 days!

It seems a bit more of a risk reduction by the builder in you not paying. Will the scaffold be up before you pay the 50%?

I live in a small village so know the builders – they have never asked me for upfront payment but I can imagine it being different if you don’t know each other.

Mind you there are two things that irk me about ebikes!!

Towing mates on normal bikes uphill – leave them cycle it themselves, or leave them at home until they get an ebike as well…

Topping strava segments, its quite obvious when they are on ebikes, but not declaring it. Some one in our local village, out of nowhere, has taken a lot of quite difficult uphill KOM’s, off road. No history in cycling until last year.

Anyway, I have gone off topic, apologies OP.

Not putting the heating on – how’s it going…?

Extremely well for Shell, it seems.

It sounds like a toxic group/place to be honest. I just can’t see the problem with mixed riding – just that the ebikes may have to wait at the top of the hill or stick it in eco and ride up together.

Riding with mates is about riding with mates – not about who rides what and how much it costs.

I do think in general bikes and components need to come down in price. I have thought this for the past few years.

It’s at a stage where a good quality Honda CRF250R is cheaper than a good quality ebike, something like a Trek Rail 9.7 or Specialized Levo expert!

    Thanks for the responses.

So we don’t think the fork on the Rail 5 is good enough for Snowdon? I’m just after something that will do rather than the best fork?

Where is a good place to look secondhand – ebay second hand prices are sky high and I don’t have facebook!

As above – are you fuelling the longer rides?

Do you cycle ‘flat out’ or near enough on the majority of your rides?

Those that have it, can you confirm its 3xdays a week gym training and two days a week interval training.

The ‘riding’ part of the plan doesn’t seem a lot? (If I have it right)

    xcracer1

Just had a look on the website – looks like 3x gym sessions and 2x interval sessions on the bike. Not sure if a weekend ride is extra!

If it helps and will keep you motivated – go for it.

I’ve signed up to Wahoo X (or whatever its called) and will follow that and going to the gym as well.

I guess the consistency is the most important part – doing it when you can’t be asked – as well as eating a cleaner diet.

I’ve been wild camping for the last 20 odd years, but in the last few years there is a considerable amount more doing so – then posting it on Instagram / Youtube!!

I came down quite late one summer evening towards Llyn Idwal in Snowdonia – which I think is a nature reserve- the number of ‘wild campers’ there having a barbeque and partying was unbelievable.

Wild camping used to be about a few friends/individual pitching late and leaving early, and I appreciate a lot do this.

Difficult one! Have the locals noticed more rubbish being left in the area?

Mine is due at the end of January and has gone up to £54.99 a year. I’ve cancelled mine this year – going to cut back generally on subscriptions to save some cash.

For someone who wanted a quieter life, less press intrusion and to reconcile with his father and brother, I don’t think Netflix, tv interviews, press leaks and a book is the way to go about it! 🤔

I haven’t read the report but I agree that anyone who takes payment to lead and teach a group should have walked around the weir. A risk assessment would have identified that as a considerable hazard as such.

Moving onto the weir itself, surely the owners should put something there to stop people going over it. Appreciate it could cause issues in retention of debris when the water is high – so would need a bespoke design. There should also be something designed so if anyone would get trapped in there, a way for them to escape. What, I don’t know, but some form of steps and railings?

Let’s not just leave it as they shouldn’t be there and it was the instructors fault – with nothing being physically done to these dangerous low dams.

    I would say ‘it depends’

I tried it but I was trying to control my inner negative voice. The more I focused on it and tried to control it, the worse it got. What you think is what I felt and it was quite a bad experience.

From my experience, if nothing in general is bothering you, except how you feel – the best way out of it is to learn to dissasociate from that inner chatter and feelings. It’s not easy and not instant.

If on the other hand something is bothering you, ie money trouble, divorce etc, then I could see the benefit of talking this over with someone.

    Just my opinion.

I know the wattbike atom has flown up in price recently, from £1799 to £2399. There may be some black friday deals about though.

I’d go for a peleton as long as it’s zwift compatible and considering you can get it for £1k.

How did you colourmatch the nail varnish – or did you just go with something ‘close enough’?
