    Hey PB2,

I ran Ardent 2.25 front and rear in the lakes and peaks.

I’m going to try Mountain King 2.2 front and rear on my next Peaks or Lakes trip to see how they go.

In herts and at trail centres I run either X King 2.2 front and rear or X King 2.2 rear and Mountain king 2.2 rear.

In the winter I was running Nobby Nic 2.25 front and rear

I’ve used all these with no problems

I watch my girlfriend go to work there everyday, it is a tough job at times, I can’t believe she does it to be honest. There are times it gets her down, but also at times she has great days when the children go home well.

Ive got a large and I’m 5’11. I’m running a 380mm post and it’s got about 10/15mm below the collar on the post. It works fine.

Also look at the Shimano MT71, vibram sole, goretex lined. I’ve just come back from a wet week in the lakes and they kept my feet warm, dry and were great for walking owet slippery rocks.

    I bought a carbon Tallboy and it’s been great. I’m 5’11 and I’ve got a large with 100mm forks, 80mm stem and a 685mm flat bar.
It’s been ridden at Swinley, Sherwood pines, Llandegla, Coed Y Brenin and some natural stuff around north Wales as well as around St. Albans in herts. It has been great everywhere so far, I’ve had no handling issues on steeper technical stuff and it rips around the single track at Swinley and Herts.

Ok I’m not sure what Jungle are like generally on warranty, but the service I’ve had from them has been really good. Silverfish on the other hand have been awful with myself and 3 friends, one with a Cove, one with a Turner and the other with a Yeti.
I bought a Santa Cruz Tallboy after nearly a year of trying bikes in different places. I went for a Tallboy in the end as it suited my riding style and had the most involving ride. The Sultan felt more like riding my 5 Spot than my XC bike which I had and the Tallboy feels more XC orientated which is what I wanted. It is more for day rides and marathon enduro events with the odd trip to the Lakes, Peaks and Scotland.
I would suggest you try and get some test rides on the bikes.

The Edge 800 is the unit you need that is the bike specific.

You can buy the unit without maps, but the base unit mapping is not very useful, if you buy it in the trail bundle pack with the 1:50,000 OS maps it works out considerably cheaper than buying the two separately.

The OS maps are £199 on there own, cheaper than buying all the paper maps i think.

I have been running the 2.2 Mtn king 2 and the sizing is pretty much the same as previous Mtn kings. They are smaller than the rubber queens.
The X-king and Mtn King 2 run the same carcass but with different tread, I tried a pair of 2.4 Mtn kings and they weren’t a great deal wider but they were quite a lot taller.
I’ve been very happy with my 2.2’s for general cross country and trail centre use.

I hadn’t ridden in 2 months, personal issues had taken my will to do anything away. Then on Friday I went out with my son for 15 miles and that was one of the best rides I’d done all year.
So today I went out and did 42 miles on the single speed and really enjoyed it, it was tough towards the end but it felt good to be out.
So yeah I’m enjoying my riding now.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on that one.
None of Shimano’s hubs are convertible from one standard to another, which is a pain

In a word no, unless someone makes something after market.

You need to have your SD card in the unit for it to show up on basecamp, if you bought the city nav one then it won’t show any offroad information on it

You can do one of 2 things, both include spending money.

    1. Buy the Hope IS to post mount and a 180mm center lock rotor.

    2. Buy a post mount XTR, XT or SLX caliper.

I bought mine from Addiktion Cycles in st. Albans. It has DT EXM 150 forks, Dt Tricon M1550 wheels,Conti Rubber Queen 2.2 tyres, XTR triple groupset with Trail brakes, Pro Tharsis seat post, King headset, Pro Tharsis bars and a thompson stem. (just got a Reverb for it too)
It comes in at 27 pounds
I’m very happy with mine, it replaced a DW link Turner 5 spot.
I can’t say it’s 100% perfect, you clip the pedals every now and then, but that is a trade off of running a good amount of sag on the rear shock, which gives loads of grip, so I’ll take the odd pedal stike.
Would I buy one again I definitely would.
    Where about’s are you?

I have a new worst bit, although we weren’t the quickest we have lost 2 laps officially and one of our team members did a 5 hour lap 🙁

Best bits – lots of them, but the 2 big descents were great fun and I really enjoyed the Kenda climb.

Worst bit – I can’t say there were bits that were really bad, I mean I didn’t like the Plasticine track but I don’t think anyone did. I’d say my worst bit was realising that I wasn’t fit enough to really make the most of the course.

I reckon 10 miles is spot on for course length, it means that you don’t get massive parades of people through the single track sections. It was the best Mayhem course I’ve ridden there(I missed last year). I really enjoyed the descents, you could really fly down them, clocked 31.6 mph on the final one.
The singletrack was good and the climbs although energy sapping weren’t difficult and you could ride the whole course.
If I was to make changes I would put more technical stuff in as I made up places in the singletrack and descents that I was losing on the climbs, but that just means I need to get fitter.

Have you replaced the bladder under the top cap in the lever, you might have caught it whilst re-assembling it after bleeding. I damaged mine without realizing it and oil used to seep out under breaking, you might be able to just re position it.
    Worth a try

A friend of mine has a horst link 5 spot which he has Lyrics on, he cracked the top tube just behind the weld at last years Mega Avalanche.
I guess you take your chances really.

You just need to spend a little bit of time on them. I put some Stans fluid into them and scrubbed it round the inside of the tyre and the bead, then pumped them up. I then put in a small bottle of Stan’s and re inflated them gave them a good shake all round and they are still up after a week in Wales.
I have been running Mountain King 2 protections tubeless on my other bike for weeks after following the same process, it takes maybe 10-15 minutes per tyre.

I had an issue recently that took me ages to find. I had removed the windows on the XT shifters and screwed the little grub screws in and I had put one of them in the hole closest to the levers and it was stopping the ratchet returning fully in the 11 tooth sprocket. It obviously goes in further without the window but I didn’t think about that.

    Might be worth a try

I have been using EXM’s for a year now and they have been great. They work well and I really like the launch control.

The XMM’s are 140mm not 150mm though and use a different damper which is slightly firmer.

In terms of stiffness I would say they are better than most forks I have tried and they certainly don’t appear to need servicing that often I took the lowers off mine in the winter and everything was clean inside.

Di2 couldn’t be simpler to fit to a bike, it took me 30 minutes to put it on and set it up on a none Di2 frame and it hasn’t missed a beat in nearly a year.

I love it but have never ridden it top to bottom, I’ve had to walk 1 section a drop of in a rocky chute 3 times now and another section I’ve dabbed every time, but I’d do it again because I know it can be done and I’d like to do it all.
I have followed 2 people who I have seen ride it all, one on a Turner 5 spot and the other on an orange 5.

I am running the 150 mm version and I have been very impressed with them. They are really controlled over the bumps and drops, really stiff and so far have been super smooth for a year.
My mate is running the 130mm ones on his ASR 5 alloy, and he is really pleased with them.

I would buy another set for sure, they are a bit pricey but for me they are worth it, because I can hold the grips right at the end.

    xanboy

Yeap, very comfy grips. They are left and right hand specific which I found out after the first ride, I thought they were good but are much more comfortable the right way round.
I like the way they lock on the outer end, it is more comfortable than a double lock on grip where you hold the outer collar.

They are good bikes, I really liked mine. I built mine from a frame and it weighed 24.5 lbs with SID’s so not that heavy at all.
    I am 5’11 and I rode a 19″.
