for tax purposes it’s always the actual payment date that determines tax year not when payment was “earned”.

Factors determining a police response are the info obtained on the initial call and what the police already know about that phone number, address and any associated names.

The police dispatcher then has to balance that need with all the other needs in the area and the resource available to determine what is sent to you.

If your estimate of mileage is 25% under you can expect them to do something. Even without a black box insurers will check your mileage in the event of a claim and adjust your payout accordingly if they think you’ve significantly mislead them on your mileage.

Given that we’ve had COVID for the last 4 months and most people’s mileage has dropped significantly during that time then you’re original estimate was probably even further out

Your work should provide everything. Laptops are only ever meant to be worked on short term so get a decent monitor and a laptop stand so your laptop screen is a 2nd monitor. Full size keyboard and mouse (Currys have a Logitech wireless combo for £45). Depending on how many usb ports your laptop has you may need a hub of some sort.
Biggest desk you can fit and a decent chair. Dining chairs are a no go.

There’s a lot of small business owners who don’t see the costs of things they do, they only see the cost of what they get charged. So they see the cost of accepting a card payment and see what they’re charged by the bank to handle cash and think cash is cheaper but don’t take account of the time it takes the business to handle cash (count it, bag it, visit bank etc).

Firm I used to work for provided free tea, coffee etc and every couple of days a director would toddle off to Tesco for 30-40mins and come back with 4 litres of milk. Another company quoted to supply us with the refreshments but were rebuffed because their quote was more expensive than the £10 a week we were currently spending – completely failed to take into account the hours of time of a director salary (£75K) that was lost each year. I must have been drinking the most expensive cups of tea in Britain every day.

Went for the G8Power. Didn’t realise SIM cards have shrunk in the last 4 years!!

Gesture swiping is confusing me at the moment but sure I’ll get there.

Interesting how online research can give such different results. I found quite a bit that was fairly positive about fender beginner acoustics. There’s also a massive amount of personal subjectivity in guitars as well.

We got a 2nd hand Fender CD-60 off Facebook marketplace for £60. Seems to get good reviews and the 10 year olds playing has improved massively since the upgrade and to my ear sounds pretty decent.

I know I have to tell my insurer about it. Just want to know if there’s any difference to me in who fixes it?

That shopping at Tesco is way more expensive than Lidl/Aldi!
Will they ever do home delivery?

No they won’t as it would massively compromise their business model and make them the same price as Tesco. One of the reasons Tesco etc is so much more expensive is because everyone who shops in store is massively subsidising the cost of the home shopping operation.

Silva compass & Swiss Army Knife 30 years.
Lowe Alpine daysack (walkabout) 25 years
Jack Wolfskin Polartec100 fleece smock (now demoted to kayaking thermal) 25years
Lowe Alpine large rucksack 20 years
Zamberlan MountainLites – awesome boots – 3 resoles – still used regularly. 23 years
    ME Lightline duvet jacket 22years
Macpac down sleeping bag 22 years

Think that’s all the really old stuff.

Just remembered the Ron Hills – 22 years old – still have them in a drawer but probably not worn for 15 years – why were they so popular?

Wow – teachers at your primary school are giving the pupils feedback and engaging with the pupils!

How lucky they are. Wish they’d do the same here.

Work gave us Jabra engage75. Which work well. Volume, mute, accept and terminate call can all be done from the headset. Except in Teams when the mute button doesn’t work and you can only mute in the Teams software. Suspect I need to play with some settings somewhere.

Plantronics are the other big brand used in call centres

Get yourself on gumtree / Facebook marketplace. Should easily be able to get a set of Thule feet and bars for £50 or less. If you’re lucky you’ll find the specific fitting kit too.

Toast the bread properly on the bottom and lightly on the top then add a big pile of grated creamy Lancashire cheese. Sprinkle with Lancashire sauce or Lea & Perrins if feeling exotic then grill until the cheese melts and starts caramelising.

It is 101 in Scotland but they are very busy so you may have to wait a bit. Don’t be tempted to phone 999 to skip the queue as some people are doing.

Our council hasn’t kept any secondaries open. All hubs are in primaries. If it was a rural area I could understand but I’ve got 2 primaries and a secondary within a 10min walk and can get to another 3 primaries within 20mins. If they’d opened some of the 6 high schools in the county they’d have a chance of kids being in school near where they live. There is no transport offered unless you normally receive it. Very few kids are provided with transport at primary level.

So I have a choice of driving 400miles in the wrong direction each week with time and money cost associated or luckily we have understanding employers so have been able to change our shifts so one of us works 6-3 and one of us works 2-midnight. Luckily he’s ok for a couple of hours on his own and is unlikely to burn the house down. Not doing our relationship much good as we don’t see each other or have any family time but at least we both still have jobs.

A quick question for those of you in schools working with key worker kids. Are the kids you’re supervising from your normal catchment area or are you sent kids from anywhere in your county?

Asking as we’re both keyworkers but weren’t offered a place in the hub at the end of the road but 20miles away so have to drive past 4 of the 6 hubs in the county to get to the 5th hub. At least we weren’t offered a place in the 6th hub which is even further away.

The place we were offered was so useless we turned it down.

Some numpty at my work wrote USA instead of Australia on a package that we sent out. We could watch it on the tracking going round and round 6 depots in the USA. We got bored of watching it after 2 months. It’s probably still there.

You do need to consider the environment at home and whether people have the space to WFH effectively. There are a heck of a lot of people in this country who work in offices who are quite low paid doing repetitive administrative stuff. Employers are now rubbing their hands thinking that they can give all these people a laptop and they can WFH. Unfortunately the standard issue laptop comes with a 13″ screen and is an ergonomic disaster. Do I want to spend 8 hours a day sitting on a dining chair using a piddling laptop when I’m used to a decent office chair with a height adjustable desk and 2 20″ monitors? Are wages going to increase enough that everyone can afford to buy a bigger house so they have space for a home office? There’s no way families of 3-4 living in a typical 2-3 bedroom house have the space to do this.

Difference for vaccine time is due to it being flu. We already had flu vaccine so it just needed modifying rather than a complete new vaccine being developed.

Pretty much every distillery in Scotland could be making hand sanitizer. The reason they’re not is they’re still waiting for HMRC to change the duty regs so that your hand sanitizer doesn’t cost the same as whisky /gin.

Send the 15 year old thermarest back to Thermarest. They’ll likely replace it under their lifetime warranty. Replacement will likely be smaller and lighter than the old mat but just as warm.

The best bag is the one that is most comfortable for you. Make sure you try them on, properly adjust them for yourself and make sure you put some weight in them (any decent shop will let you borrow some climbing ropes)

Well that’s going the wrong way. Heavier than when I started – must have been really dehydrated last week – can’t see how else I’ve put 2kg on in a week. It can’t all be due to last night’s beer, burger, chips and chocolate fudge cake – can it?

1.7kg down in total so only 0.1kg behind plan but all lost this week (always was a late starter). Need to keep avoiding the bacon & hash brown roll from the canteen in the morning and the tuck shop for the rest of the day.

Might depend on what your work say. I tried to go back to work whilst I was signed off as I felt fine and was going crazy sat at home. Work refused and sent me back home for another week. I only had a broken arm in a cast.

Think it’s a certain group agitating who are possibly associated with one of the losing bidders to run this stuff or believe their was some corruption in the way the organiser was selected.
Christmas / Hogmanay always used to be run by the council. They’ve now contracted this out to one of the big “fringe” festival firms who are much more commercial and have to make lots of money to cover the price they paid the council for the rights and make some profit.

Use boiler juice to find out Max price then ring a few local suppliers. If you’re in central Scotland then I’d recommend Bryce Oils – were always cheapest for me.

They have access to the electoral roll so can see how often you vote. They also have access to the previous results from your polling station / ward so what you get will be determined by the results in your ward, ratio of voters: non voters and if you’ve given them info previously about your political views and then some socio economic stuff about your street. They know your age so that leaflet / canvasser may only be targeting a certain age group.

I’ve only had the SNP so far (ex council estate) but 500m away the houses are 5-10x the price and you’ll see the Tory canvassers.

Sweating is a stress / anxiety response so you’ll sweat less if you’re less stressed / anxious / worried about things.

Either that or you’ve changed your anti perspirant to something more effective.

If it’s a 2015 it’s 4-5 years old so looking at 25-30K per year. It’s highish mileage but not mega miles so wouldn’t worry about it.

Drove all the way to the Alps and realised I’d left saddle and seat post in liverpool. Saddles and seatposts are surprisingly expensive in Alpine towns.
