Had a greenhouse in our garden as a kid. Never hurt me though it used to drive my dad nuts when a wayward random object broke greenhouse windows on multiple occasions throughout our childhood.

Acquired a rangemaster with the last house I bought. Just be careful of widths as a lot of range ovens might only be 50 or 55 instead of 60 so some of your baking trays might not fit. Might have been ours but even on the lowest gas setting on the hob it was more of a rolling boil than a simmer and the grill in the oven hanging off the oven door was a pain

Except that Britain was the leading campaigner for the abolition of the tampon tax within the EU. If we were still in the EU and had carried on pushing for abolition rather than having to negotiate Brexit then the whole of Europe rather than just UK may have been abolishing the tampon tax.

I acquired an Orangebox Do from my previous employer when homeworking started which I forgot to give back. Miles better than the chairs in my new office so starting to get back pain again. Will get a workstation assessment soon and see what the new employer comes up with.

For dog guards and boot dividers look at Travall or Guardsman they both sell direct to the public and are OEM manufacturers for car makers.

Lovely looking dog – hope you’ve a biggish house.

Have a look at Guardsman dog guards. Similar to Travall possibly slightly cheaper and make some OEM dog guards too.

Keep your eye out for 2nd hand ones on Facebook / gumtree / eBay.

I’ve just found a Guardsman guard and divider for a Passat for £65 instead of £200 new.

My parents replaced their backdoor with a rockdoor a few years ago after burglars broke in through the previous door . Still looks new and the rear of the house is noticeably warmer than previous. No idea how rockdoor compare to any of the other brands mentioned though.

Don’t think it was just his use of the word coloured but also his views on Asians being better at IT than football and black people being better at football than IT and that ethnicity / race determined what you were likely to be good at which were more shocking to me.

So we decided to have him on a 3 week trial. After 3 hours we decided to keep him.

    Meet Fred

    Fred 1

    Fred 2

    Fred 3

He doesn’t know his name, has no recall and thinks everyone is his friend and tries to eat every single thing he finds on his walk which has had contact with food or humans. But we love him already. Only thing destroyed so far is the soft toy duck from Pets at home which lasted 20mins and 1 egg when he ran off with half a dozen eggs out of the shopping bag!!

Will try and get some better pics on his walk tomorrow

When you got the Jabra 510 did you calibrate it during setup to the level of background noise you have now or is it still calibrated to when it was used in the office?

You have to keep the transfer out of a DB in a pension wrapper which could be a drawdown pension. Drawdown pensions have a range of investment options from high risk to low risk and they will have “cash funds” which are very low risk though still invested. The problem with not investing is that inflation is likely to have devalued your pension fund over time.

They seem to enjoy sitting in puddles when ever i’ve come across them

Haha – I’ve had family with flat coated retrievers and am well aware of the love of bog snorkeling!!

Anyone know how similar / different golden retrievers are to flat coated retrievers?

You can’t just sign it away. For you to sign it away someone’s got to accept it and that is what costs.

Think of it this way – some clever actuary at the pension fund has worked out that they will be better off paying you £47K now than paying you £800 per year for however long your retirement is. What are the odds of them being wrong and you being right?

£47K – £6K fees is still more than the £29K you thought was a good deal originally.

You’re not paying for the IFA’s time or work. You’re paying for a very expensive insurance policy that is covering the likely costs when you discover in 15-20 years time that you would have been better off staying in the DB scheme and the advisor misadvised you and the insurance policy you’ve bought has got to pay you the difference between what you have and what the DB scheme would have provided you with for the next 40 years. Nobody wants this liability as it’s almost certain to happen which is why you get charged a lot for someone to take on this liability.

The problem with Scotland is that thanks to the ice age we have lots of clay near the surface which makes drainage difficult particularly via soakaways. I do know a very good drainage consultant who sorted out our issues (just outside of Edinburgh) – basically got our permits and permissions changed with SEPA as the house had been built with a soakaway in ground that would never support a soakaway. PM me if you want his details.

You also need to remember that language was spoken before it was written down and the people doing the writing often spoke / wrote latin so tried to make English fit Latin grammar rules or imposed Latin grammar rules into written English. So some of the grammar rules that grammar pendants love actually have nothing to do with English.

Are you sure the local government scheme she’s in is variable as current local government scheme is CARE – same as the current teachers scheme but with slightly different calculations / options. I know you can’t transfer into the local government scheme once you’ve been in over 12 months so teachers scheme may have a similar rule.

If Mrs OAB is in the SSTA they did have a deal for free pensions financial advice but not sure whether this deal is still in place.

It’s very similar to how kayakers stand on river banks when faffing. Keeps your hands warm.

Insurance will go up once they pass the test. Prior to test you’re always driving supervised by a qualified experienced driver and less likely to crash than when you’re on your own or being encouraged by peers.

Are they barristers doing solely criminal law funded by legal aid or are they doing private / commercial / corporate stuff? There is a massive difference in pay between them.

The “thank you for your recent communication” will have been because it’s a standard template letter – they’re likely referring to whoever informed them of your Dad’s passing and supplied them with a copy of the death cert.

Pension companies can find out about a pension holders death in multiple ways (and likely lead to the same standard letter being issued). Bereavement cases can in some cases unfortunately drag on for quite a long time while trustees, scheme administrators, pension co etc pass information between themselves, ask for more info from family / beneficiaries etc to determine who receives remaining benefits. Usually they’ll follow what’s on the beneficiary nomination / expression of wishes form but not always as they could have been written years ago.

I don’t believe this story at all. Never in the history of computer discussions on STW has a Mac failed to update seamlessly – it just doesn’t happen. Are you sure your Macbook isn’t a Windows PC?

Isn’t the John Ryan website the place to go for all your mattress related questions. Pretty sure it’s been recommended on here before.

Join the camping club and use their certificated sites. No more than 5 units – usually on a farm with a look and a tap – what else do you need?

Try the Edinburgh mountain bikers meetup group. There’s also a central Scotland or Stirling area mountain bikers meetup group that go all over.

“Unfortunately, we cannot store bikes or scooters or use our bike rack as it is situated close to the gate and we cannot guarantee the require distance for adults or enhanced cleaning/reduced touch. This will be kept under review.”

From a primary school in East Lothian. Pretty sure it’s more than 2m from the school gate though so don’t really understand how the distance guarantee is any less valid there than anywhere else.

Has anyone with kids in Scotland had guidelines from the school banning the kids from cycling to school to control Covid? Does anyone understand / know the logic behind this because I can’t work it out?

It can be done but probably not on standard width roof bars. You’ll need to fit extensions or look at Thule Pro bars which don’t have the same width constraints as other Thule bars. Also fit lines to the bow and stern and fasten to your towing eyes / tow bar.

Could be because even what the UK can give is better than what they have where they are, they already have friends/family here so want to be with them or maybe they speak English and it’s easier to go to a country where you already speak the language than where you don’t.

Your mum needs to work out what she wants to do with the house. Just saying I don’t want to sell isn’t an option. As your uncle is wanting to liquidate the inheritance your mum’s choices are to either sell the house or buy your uncle out of it. Presumably your grandparents left it to them with the intention of them either selling it or letting it out to generate income for both of them rather than them living in it.

Yep P4 and P5. Took me ages when I moved up here to work out how school years work until I found out the cut off date was 28Feb instead of 31Aug.

The messages on phonelines about delays due to COVID are because some people are working at home – not everyone is yet – there’s still IT issues around access to all necessary systems. There’s also a massive backlog of work to get through caused by the delays while everyone was set up at home.

You’ll have been convicted of an S172 instead of the SP30 as because you haven’t provided details they don’t have enough evidence for an SP30 so they convict you with S172 instead. What you want to be doing is a stat Dec to rewind the S172 and get charged / convicted with the SP30 instead of the S172. You need to negotiate so that you only get convicted of SP30 and don’t end up being convicted of SP30 & S172.
