If it’s just you or you and a partner then spend a month packing and do it yourself but it’s easier if you’re old enough to rent a 7.5tonne as you will overload a Luton. If you’ve got kids pay a removals firm unless you can send them to granny for a month.

the online grocery services are actually subsidised by shoppers who go to the store,

This suggests that online shopping items are cheaper than in-store items?

What it means is that what supermarkets charge for home delivery comes nowhere near the cost of providing that home delivery. It’s simply not possible to pay a picker, a driver, run software systems, lease, repair crash damage and fuel a van for the price that supermarkets charge. Therefore the cost of providing that is included in the cost of every item in the store so shoppers who go to the store and pick their own shopping are subsidising the online shoppers.

The supermarkets could close down home delivery tomorrow, reduce their store prices and still make the same profit.

The only thing that stops a shop quitting home delivery is the fear that all the customers would go to a shop that continues to home deliver.

Had a Jabra Engage headset in a previous job which was great as was wireless so you weren’t tied to your computer – could do jobs around the house while on call. Now using a Plantronics something or other which works well in a large contact centre but is wired. If you find headsets uncomfy just try a different one – maybe over ear rather than in ear or single ear rather than 2 ears. Thousands of contact centre staff can wear them for a 12-13 hour shift so it’s certainly possible to find a comfy one.

Panic over. Engine not started and car pushed into nearby car park. The lovely people at Autoaid cover misfuelling by your spouse as standard as part of their breakdown cover so are going to send a nice person to pump out the fuel, clean everything that needs cleaning and add 10litres of beautiful petrol. Only got to wait 4 hours.

Apparently this is my fault for being nice and filling the car for the last few months!!

A small fillet of smoked mackerel works well, a few thin slices of red onion or some spring onion leaves, celery, peppers. Some orange or grapefruit segments can add a nice freshness. Grapes, raisins, sultanas can work For coleslaw it’s just shredded cabbage, carrot and onion in whatever proportion you feel like with just enough mayonnaise to coat it – add black pepper and a bit of mustard . Don’t drown it in mayo like the pish in the shops.

How big is the gate? Can the metal gates be opened to allow access? Do the gateposts need any work or replacing? Where in the country are you?

I’d also suggest that when you ask to speak with the enquiry officer try to phrase it as “discussing the damage to my property occurring during this incident” – may give you more chance of success.

Not sure why the call handler has directed you to the provision of reports pages as I’m pretty certain that process is only for insurance co’s and solicitors. You have 2 options. Phone 101 again or use the contactus@scotland.police.uk email address or the contactus form on the website and request that the handling /enquiry officer contacts you regarding this incident. If this doesn’t work then you’ll need to call / email to report the damage to the headstone. This will then get you your own incident number / crime number and your own enquiry /handling officer who should be able to help.

Any ideas on how to convince my Dad to have their cavity walls insulated. They live in a 1930s semi and my Dad is convinced that if they have the cavity walls insulated the insulation will catch on the wall ties which will then make a bridge between the outer and inner wall causing damp. It’s taken my Mum about 10 years to convince him to get rid of the open coal fire and we’ve been trying to convince him to do the walls for longer than that. Any ideas?

It’s well over 20 years since I was paid on that system but as I’d missed payroll cut off I didn’t get paid on my first pay day and it was all sorted on my first pay packet received on 2nd pay day. Company did understand that this could cause people cash flow issues and were willing to give a cash advance soon after we started which was then deducted from our 1st pay packet. Your company may offer something similar if asked.

Post offices were killed off when the government stopped paying benefits in cash through them and paid them all direct to your bank account.

Have a look at community cars or similar in your area. My grandma used them a lot when she was around as cheaper than taxis and the drivers were more amenable to loading and unloading luggage than taxi drivers were. They use volunteer drivers who have been vetted. My dad now volunteers for them 1 day a week taking people to health appointments etc.

My parents did it in 1998 as their 25th wedding anniversary experience. They caught the Eurolines coach (much more pleasant than Megabus etc) from London Victoria to Chamonix then stayed in a hotel/b&b each night having their luggage transported each day so they just needed a daypack.

May not be everyone’s cup of tea but eating in a restaurant every night with a cold glass of the local wine is very very pleasant after a hot days walking.

Partner insisting that the correct vacuum tool for vacuuming the floor of the entire house is the upholstery tool (approx 10x3cm) and then leaving this attached to the hoover hose and hiding the actual floor tool under some random piece of furniture or in a random cupboard which takes me ages to find when I try and vacuum so I may as well do the vacuuming with the upholstery tool.

Sends my blood pressure through the roof multiple times a week.

How on earth do you get Tevas to last 15-29 years? I’ve usually got holes in the soles within 3-5 years and have never got any footwear to last that long without resoling it. Tevas or Merrells for me – Merrells size slightly small compared to other brands so need to go up a size or two.

There won’t be any protests on the street. People have realised that has no effect. How many people protested against Brexit, how many people protested against the Iraq war?

People won’t strike either. There’s very few unions in the private sector to organise it and lots of people who could strike can’t afford to. One of the reasons that rail strikes are successful is that drivers can afford to strike to get a pay rise. If you’re in the “just about coping” category you’re not going to go on strike if that will take you into the “not coping” category. People will only go on strike when things are really bad and striking doesn’t make things worse for them.

We have a Sportage and a Passat estate. The Passat is the holiday/activity car but is filled to the roof with 2 adults, an adult sized child, a golden retriever, 2 SUPs and camping kit. The kayak on the roof doubles as a roofbox. Could fit bikes on roof or towbar as well but no idea where I’d fit the extra kit. It’s the bulk of the SUPs and watersports kit which is the problem.if I were you I’d probably go for the trailer option now which you should be able to sell for what you pay later and change the Sportage to a large estate or people carrier next time you change the car.

If she continues to deny it you could try the approach of “your behaviour looks like shoplifting to those who are experienced in spotting shoplifting so needs to change otherwise you’ll end up in the same situation again, possibly in a store who prosecute all shoplifters or where the value of goods meets their threshold for prosecution”.

You really don’t want a criminal conviction as it will affect your life choices / opportunities.

If you’re looking for excitement or adrenalin that you might get from mountain biking then you need a different mindset (unless you get into surf or whitewater) It’s more about being outside in the great outdoors, being totally silent and feeling at one with the board and the water. Think of it as a water based walk but without the walk.

Find a local fishery with a bait pond, hire a rod and try and catch something. If you’re near Peebles then Kailzie fishery was good. Hopefully the new owner carries on in the same way as the previous owner.

Just be careful how many fish you catch as it can get expensive.

Not particularly Scotland but delivery prices are going up. Noticed it on Mother’s Day when the village florist has got rid of their free delivery to local postcodes and now charges £6.95 which is a lot for delivery 1 mile from the shop.

My partner is Polish and was back home last month, we’re going again next month and again in the Summer. There were a lot of worries soon after the invasion that Poland would be next especially if you have male family members aged in late teens upwards who would be conscripted. These have reduced as the war has dragged on. The Polish people have been unbelievably generous and kind to Ukrainian refugees however there are inevitable stories amplified by the right wing of Ukrainians taking advantage of the generosity, other migrants pretending to be Ukrainian who aren’t which when combined with insufficient support /action from the government is creating tensions. If you’re able to talk with Ukrainians there then what you hear of their experience is not pleasant listening.

There is also a historical “animosity” between the 2 nations as parts of Ukraine used to be Poland (Lviv for example). There has been some Ukrainian migration into Poland previously which had led to similar issues found with Polish people moving to UK (they’re taking our jobs etc).

Personally I don’t have any worries about my family safety in Poland and love the country.

The only issue we have realised is that if something does kick off when we’re there then the UK government would hopefully try quite hard to get me out of a warzone but wouldn’t help my partner as she only has “leave to remain” and isn’t a UK citizen so would have to rely on her EU passport to get her into Germany and I’d have to try and collect her from there. I think the risk of this is quite small as Russia hasn’t got the capacity to start another war

If you’re fully comp then give your insurance co the other drivers reg and any police incident or crime ref numbers you have. The insurance co are able to access the info on the police reports. Your car will be repaired quicker although it may take a while for them to get the money out of the other insurer so you may have to deal with a higher premium for a bit but this is why you pay them. If you don’t want your insurers to do it then a solicitor will be able to do the same work- legal cover on your insurance or pay for it yourself. The police may pass your contact details to the other driver but cannot force them to contact you. They’re highly unlikely to give you the other drivers details and the other driver is under no obligation to respond to any communication from you.

Because each time you go off work your manager has to redistribute your work amongst the rest of the team and each time you come back the manager has to redistribute the team workload again and do a RTW meeting with you.

So in your hypothetical week where you’re sick Monday, Wednesday, Friday and work Tuesday and Thursday your manager has potentially had the weeks workload plan changed 5x and done 3 extra meetings with you.

I had a 2 up 2 down terrace in Coventry with a small back yard with a covenant forbidding the manufacture of house bricks. Not sure how or where I would have been able to do this.
