If the forecast is solid rain for multiple days -don’t go.

If you have a wet day or 2 in the middle of a longer trip – spend a day in the tent.  Walking for full days in the rain isn’t much fun.

If you know there’s going to be a wet day consider booking into a campsite with a drying room / tumble driers.

Arnold Clark in Edinburgh.  Sorry I can’t count.  It’s only 3.5 months.  It’s booked in at the end of May.

Lucky you.  Our 5 year old Kia is making a scraping noise from the gearbox, has no 2nd gear, is stiff to get out of reverse and slowly getting stiffer to get out of other gears and the gear lever no longer centres itself when in neutral.

The wait to get it seen (for diagnostics) at the dealers is 4.5 months.  The other dealer in town isn’t taking on new customers.

Don’t think tickets for 2025 have been released yet but 2024 tickets are for sale and you probably want to get booked fairly soon for this year.  Went 2/3 years ago and going again this year.

    Wrap up warm!!

“doesn’t no MOT invalidate insurance, meaning a separate offence”

No. Some policies have it written in but it’s an unreasonable term so is ignored. The insurance company would never be able to refuse to pay out to the third party. If the insurance company find a fault with the vehicle which would have caused an MOT fail AND that fault contributed to the cause / severity of the accident they MAY be able to reduce the payout to the policy holder.

For Police Scotland you can avoid the queue on 101 by using the contactus form on the website or emailing contactus@scotland.police.uk.

Please make sure you include location, time and date and a description of what happened and the vehicle details and your contact details.

You have no idea how frustrating it is to receive emails that say “dangerous driving by car on high street” which if we’re lucky have an email address to reply to.

We may not be able to do much about the driving unless you have corroboration from another witness or camera footage but can put a marker on for no MOT

I just follow the links to FHR and Holiday Extras from https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-airport-parking/

Then choose the combination of price, convenience and reputation that I’m willing to pay. Never found a cheaper way.

Purple parking have their own buses at Manchester so must have their own car park but don’t know where it is.

Used this company in January.  https://www.airportparkmanchester.co.uk/

Apart from their minibus not being quite big enough for the numbers of people needing a lift back to the airport at the same time so had to wait 20mins for the driver to do a round trip couldn’t fault them – car park seemed nice and staff friendly.

Warranty returns direct to Nike are really easy – We always buy our 13yo son Nike trainers off the website.  We’ve returned his last 3 pairs as they’ve never lasted longer than 6 months and he only walks 250m to school and been given a refund each time.  As they give you a refund we just buy a different style in the next size up.  Each time ours have been returned it’s due to a design fault as you look at the shoe and think “why’ve they put a hard sharp thing next to something really soft – it’s clearly going to push through and make a hole”

We have a Sony TV with active surface audio+ which is where the screen is the speaker and seems to get reviewed as the best sound without a soundbar but will be triple or quadruple your budget and a bigger TV.

Expect them to take the full 30days.  My organisation doesn’t send any kind of acknowledgement as that costs time and money.  If your request is as vague as you presented it here they may decline it or come back to you for clarification

My son’s school has a defib.  For some reason it’s kept in the PE dept office so only accessible 0830-1530 mon-fri and when there’s a teacher there to unlock the office.

School is next to footpath and cyclepath and is a sports centre at evenings and weekends.  If you’re not a pupil you do not have a hope of finding the defib.

So rather than move the defib to somewhere more accessible / visible the school are fundraising to buy a 2nd defib to put on the outside of school next to the front door!!

You’ve also got to remember that your brain is hearing sounds it has either never heard or hasn’t heard for a long time so is processing them as such and not tuning out what are actually background noises as primitively speaking a new sound maybe a threat to you.

My mum really struggled when she first got hearing aids as until then she’d believed that kettles and cars were totally silent. When she first heard them she found them really loud and unpleasant

Have a look at the Ayacucho winter parker at Cotswold.  Mines warm, dry and breathable enough for flat dog walks and standing at the side of Scottish football pitches on a Sunday morning in winter

Eat Christmas dinner on random day between 23rd and 27th dependent on shift patterns.  This year it’s the 24th so not bad.

Won’t see my partner on Christmas day as she’s working dayshift and I’m working backshift but try and make Christmas Day a little bit Christmassy for my son as all his pals do family stuff so not around to play football or Xbox.

Just phone 999 and speak to Ambulance, Police / Mountain Rescue or Coastguard depending on where you are.

You’re worrying and overthinking it because to you it’s a hopefully rare event.  To anyone in the emergency services it’s what they deal with every day and there will be protocols, policies and procedures that cover the situation you’re calling about.

Don’t worry if you do ask for the wrong agency – we’re pretty good at communicating with each other and passing things to other agencies when needed.

Take him to your local guitar shop.  Get them to show your son the guitars in your budget.  The guitar will choose your son.  This will make him want to play / practice more.  Ideally you want him to not be able to look at the guitar without picking it up and playing / practicing.

A day with the heating on and it raised the temp to a tropical 12 degrees

Are you sure the boiler was on all day and is actually connected to the radiators?  That sounds horrific.

Depends what care costs are anticipated for the rest of his life and what the effect on his earnings would be.  He’s only 45 so could have been expecting to earn a decent whack for the next  20-25 years and care costs for maybe 50 years.

    Will quickly mount up.

Pretty sure any key cutting place would be able to do it as it’s a standard key.  Just tell them a number and they can look it up to make it.  If not contact roofbox.co.uk.  they should be able to help with Thule keys.

I’m going to stick up for the suburbs.  Much more space for your money and generally quicker and easier to get to places further afield for biking.  Depends how much you want the city life of pubs, bars, clubs, restaurants, theatres, events etc and how often you use them.

It probably takes TJ at least 30mins more travel time to get to Glentress than for someone living outside the bypass.

If you’re near the airport then have a look at South Queensferry, Kirkliston, Dalmeny maybe out as far as Winchburgh / Linlithgow.

Police call taker here.  Report what you’ve written above with his vehicle registration to 101 or online if your local force has this option and try and find the name of the pub he’s using.

This should be passed to local officers who’ll keep an eye out for his reg and the pub car park if and when they’re passing.

If you watch him drink and drive or can tell he’s driven home drunk then 999 immediately.

Police do like drink driver calls as it’s relatively high priority and the evidence is easy to obtain to secure a conviction.  We’ll always dispatch if there’s someone available.

You could always message the pub directly with his reg.  Pubs are usually pretty good reporters of this but it won’t hurt to encourage them.

Don’t think about it in terms of years – find out the percentage discount it equates to.  Losing 2 years no claims might only change your percentage discount from 60% to 55% so possibly not worth bothering with depending on the cost of it compared to your policy premium.  If you’re going to go from 35% to 10% then it may be more beneficial (but only if you have an accident)

Worked for a company years ago who received a request at 1630 on a Friday for 4 tests.  Client was insistent these tests were done on the Saturday when they would normally be run on the Monday and cost £200.  Client refused to take no for an answer and in the hope that they’d go away we eventually quoted them a ridiculous £10K to do the work on Saturday.  They then accepted the quote so people who worked the Saturday got 5x pay and we all got a nice Christmas bonus.

Solum is the foundations of the building and wouldn’t cover the car park unless your car park is underneath the flats.
