Sounds like you jumped the gun a bit and should have waited to receive that email before rerouting yourself and booking your Manchester flight and catching your Uber.  Had you gone through security at Leeds / checked in?

I think you might struggle to get much out of them but maybe try for a refund of the Leeds flight or the Manchester flight.

Seems crazy to me that Social Services have become involved when no harm has come to the now 16 year old young adult

If something is reported to social services they have to investigate.  They may be able to close the investigation quickly after a quick chat with the parent / kid and determining they don’t have any concerns for their safety but they can’t refuse to investigate or close it before they’re satisfied the child is safe.

Because it’s very changeable.  If anyone can tell me what I should have been wearing yesterday when I was watching my son’s football match to avoid the ridiculous number of changes I did make then I’d be very grateful for your advice.  I was wearing shorts and t shirt however added a jumper 6 times when the sky changed from blue to grey, added a goretex 3 times when the wind picked up and used an umbrella twice when it pissed it down and lost count of how many times I put my sunglasses on and off.

Fitbits don’t last.  My partners fitbits have all failed when just outside the warranty / guarantee.  Gets expensive when you have to replace them every 18 months or less.

If only the Tories had still been in power then the riots would have stopped sooner as rioters would have been met with an overwhelming Police response.

According to Tom Tootenhat talking out of his hat trying to become Tory leader.  How on Earth can Southport or Rotherham produce an overwhelming Police response – absolute Muppet.

I used to love lettuce and thousand Island dressing sandwiches.  I think the lettuce was only there to placate my parents who wouldn’t let me have a thousand Island dressing sandwich!!

People would be very shocked if they ever realised how few police are actually on duty in their town at any particular time and how far they are from a police officer.  If there’s 170000 officers in total then there will only be about 35000 on duty at any time across the whole UK.   Many of those can’t be deployed to public disorder.

Just check what might happen in the future.  Ie – if you fly to Greece in 3 years time and they can see you previously overstayed will they let you in?

I had difficulty getting into Croatia because they could see on my passport that I’d entered the EU via Amsterdam the year before but as my passport wasn’t stamped when I left via Calais thought I’d overstayed.  I’d had several European trips in the meantime where this hadn’t been noticed / wasn’t an issue.

Either buy soft crates and secure them to the load clips or seat belts or buy harnesses for the dog which are then clipped to either the ISOFIX or the seatbelts.

If the OP finds their garden twine can they send some to me.  I only bought a new roll on Monday and have already lost it before I’ve even opened it.

We used cash in Crete as well a few weeks ago. In restaurants you’d normally get a free drink or dessert if paying cash which you wouldn’t get if paying by card and shops would knock 5-10 euros off if paying cash.  I suspect this is due to tax avoidance as there is a huge Greek  government push to electronic transactions and all small businesses must use the same government mandated EPOS system.

From 6 or 7 for up to an hour.  Usually left on a Skype call to granny.  By age 10 left on his own for 3-4 hours.  Always had access to the home phone to call us and grandparents on Skype through laptop.

We’ve got the 1.6 petrol in the previous version on a 68 plate.  Depending on what other cars you have driven you may find this underpowered.  It is however a very comfortable and pleasant place to be.

Be careful buying 2nd hand as whilst the 7 year warranty transfers to the 2nd owner the warranty on the expensive bits doesn’t unless you have FSH.  Ours currently needs a new gear box at 48K.  Ask you local Kia dealer what their waiting time is to look at the vehicle for servicing / warranty work.  We first reported the gearbox issue in Jan / Feb, they couldn’t look at it  until the end of May and have had it since then.  There’s still another vehicle ahead of ours in the queue for a new gearbox.  Thankfully we did manage to source the FSH from the previous dealer however Kia still haven’t approved the warranty claim (There is no central online servicing record for Kia).  Hoping they will or it’s thousands for a new gearbox.

Freestanding cookers (oven, hob and maybe grill) are usually 50, 55 or 60cm wide (50cm is a pain in the arse) but depth and height are pretty standard.  You’ll have a choice of running everything from gas or electric or a gas hob and an electric oven.  Depends on what the electric isolator switch is for and rated to whether you can have all electric.  Electric ovens on their own with a gas hob often only need a 13A socket.  Bear in mind it would probably cost £100 to connect the gas (guesstimate based on it costing me £60 15 years ago.)

Am surprised the landlord is not supplying a cooker.

I’d be thinking of situations where I’ve communicated and caused a change in behaviour, action and something has happened which wouldn’t have happened without my communication.  Have you negotiated something at some point and achieved an outcome which seemed unrealistic / unexpected/ beyond expectations.

As someone who works for 101 in Scotland don’t waste your time calling for this.  Any note taken will not be seen or even be findable by anyone who subsequently takes a call about bike theft by elray89 in Leith and won’t be findable by any officers attending either.

Calls advising of Explosions (Matt’s MRT disposing of flares) and firearms shooting are treated very differently (just because of the huge amount of police resource consumed when we take reports of unknown explosions / gunshots).

Just had my labour candidate at the door (dedication considering the weather) having had a labour campaigner back in November.  Judging by the leaflets I’ve been given they were ready to go and are not surprised and clearly putting effort into changing the seat from SNP to Labour.

Some of you have managed three failures. No offence.

I have a blind spot for words with 2 vowels together – they often catch me out.  It’s just the way my brain works (or doesn’t)

Unfortunately committing murder isn’t limited to being an asylum seeker.  We’ve got plenty of murderers who were born and bred in the UK.  If we’re going to keep all asylum seekers locked up in case they murder someone we should probably start locking up various other  groups in case they kill someone.  Maybe everyone who’s mentally ill or all drivers or everyone who can ride a bike.

It is cold, though. And tediously windy. Don’t bother packing shorts

Having spent the last 2 days in shorts and t shirt I would disagree with this.

There is an opinion that the CC2’s are now too biased towards snow performance at the expense of wet performance which depending where you are in the UK you are makes a more wet biased tyre a better choice.

Had great socks from Smartwool, Rohan, Thorlo and Bridgedale.

Found Norwegian socks to be great for lounging around the house but too big, loose and baggy for wearing in shoes or boots.

There’s an awful lot of people on here not understanding how salary sacrifice works.  OP already said he’s on 35K plus OT etc.  he’s used salary sacrifice to make sure he doesn’t hit the 50% marginal tax rate at £43K which applies in Scotland and to minimise his tax.  The amount of salary sacrifice he’s taken has reduced his hourly rate from approx £18 per hour to below the new minimum wage of approx £11 which is not allowed hence employer mucking around with his pension contributions as that’s the only salary sacrifice that isn’t fixed.

Just beware that there’s a lot of poor quality batteries around and plenty batteries fail prematurely.  My Dad’s battery has just failed after less than 3 years on his mower (sorry – can’t remember the make).  It’s a 3 month wait for a replacement battery under warranty and no reason to expect the new battery to last any longer.  That motor  / battery combination is also being discontinued so when his new battery dies he won’t be able to buy a replacement battery that’s the same shape so will be new mower time.

I moved down from top set to 2nd set when I was about your daughter’s age.  Was then moved back up again a couple of terms later.  Maybe it was needed – maybe it wasn’t – I can’t remember now but it didn’t do me any harm as I still got an A at GCSE maths and went on to do A-level and got a B but did find my maths ceiling was 2nd year A-level when it became a foreign language and I hadn’t got a clue.  It also took A-level maths for me to understand GCSE Physics.

The school will be balancing academic and pastoral / social issues as well – it’s not just based on the cat score.
