You may also need a new set of bolts.

I replaced my OEM bearings with Katec bearings a few years ago and didn’t need to touch them again – reached the conclusion that the OEM ones aren’t sealed very well for our weather conditions

Thanks for the photos, got mine finished today – could have been that the guttering i was using is cheap so reinforced underneath and now seems pretty solid.

The cube Nutrail is also appealing with the British Cycling 10% off.

How easy is it to go tubeless with the floater tyres and stock rims?

In the past I’ve used a deore lx 9 speed mech, 9 speed tiagra shifters and a 34t 9 speed casette – worked perfectly.

I’m curious I know more about the 11 speed 6800 working well with an MTB cassette; do the 10 speed MTB cassettes have different spacing to a road 10 speed?

For now I’ve gone back to to a 6700 mech and “borrowed” the jockey wheels – shifting perfectly but an 11 to 34 would be awesome for the step hills.

Think I’ve found one in a Halfords automotive set – trying to under a crash bar on a car.

Thanks for replies; the 4 bike rack is a good suggestion; so it’s either the Buzz BB4 or BC3; I’m leaning towards the BC3 as it tilts.

How did you secure the croozer? using the wheel clamps and then an addition strap to the carrier? It looks like you had a safety strap to the back of the van?

My handbrake is different to that, it has a lever in a similar place but has cable operated pins that push into the wheel back plates (similar to a pram brake)

I’ve gone for a pair of 2.4 Odyssey BMX tyres and will hopefully be able to run them at a low pressure.

Halfords have 2.2 Maxxis Holy Rollers for £14 each; that should do the job.

BMX tyres… why didn’t I think of that?!

I’ve just checked the handbrake – guessing that you have a different model Gravity as I don’t have shoes and the lever is well out of the way.

Funnily enough I want them for a Croozer too… hadn’t thought about the handbrake but I’m sure I can work around that.

16″ tubes should work for ghetto although quite happy to start on higher volume tyres with tubes at a low pressure

Would also be worth looking at a Leon Cupra (good specification as standard) or the A3 1.8T quattro.

1.8t engine in my opinion was one of VAGs best, in the MK5s the 2.0TFSI is good but it has expensive taste for superunleaded (it will run fine on standard but was designed for 97ron)

    None of the above…

As per the above – Halfords. I’ve reserved and hoping they will accept the British cycling discount on top.

Yup, my butt must have morphed… Or it’s all the pies I’ve been eating… I’ve been riding for years and don’t understand why it’s suddenly started hurting.

Whilst the Croozer is a little heavier & wider than the Cougar from a value for money perspective I think I’m going to take the Croozer kid plus.

I’ve been offered a great deal on the Croozer and also a good deal on the Cougar 2 (£550) but like for like including the jogging wheel and stroller wheels there is a ~£200 price difference.

It’s bike discount de; but the price seems to have changed to £260… Which is odd as it was £222 when I looked earlier.

There are some reviews on the German Amazon site; using google translate the main complaints seem to be the strap mounting point and the trailer smelling of plastic (disappears after a few weeks)

The XLC duo looks just like the Croozer, other than being a bit heavier any idea what the main differences are? It looks good value at just over £220 from bike discount.

The croozer kid plus has 45 mm of suspension (some kind of polymer setup)

Potentially interested in the cougar but leaning towards the two child. Does the croozer have a ball hitch so that if the bike falls into its side the trailer remains upright?

I too have an integral garage with limited headroom. I’m having a securoglide excel fitted on Friday. Initially I wanted a sectional but the guide rail space requirement ate up a huge amount of space so decided against.

Get the 3 series touring, brilliant car and practical, forget the saloon as boot is awkward. Next time I’ll go for the 5 touring but that’s due to a growing family.

The M Sports can be a bit firm; my 330d auto has averaged 40.5mpg over last 30k miles of spirited driving, the 320d wil be more economical but for the added fun the 3 litre is more than worth it. Your budget should get just about get you an F31 330d.

I’m after either a Hormann or a Garador (believe they are the same company). As it’s only used for taking bikes in and out I plan to stick with a manual opener rather than going for an electric opener.

Are they home made bike lockers in your photo?

Footflaps – that’s what I have in mind; how big is your garage?

Wightyson – no offence taken; current door is up and over with no seals and a big gap that daylight and wind pours through. This is going to be replaced with a sectional insulated door – primary driver is security. Ceiling / fire compartment – I’m going to screw into the plaster board in the ceiling hence the question.

Thanks – fully understood on the gas pipe.

Hadn’t got as far as thinking about ventilation but it’s a good point – would a simple wall mounted xpelair be sufficient?

The ceiling… I know that it is part of the fire compartment, it already has a light fitted to it, presumably this is ok? I was intending to build cupboards in place as per this guide: http://www.familyhandyman.com/garage/storage/installing-large-garage-cabinets/step-by-step will it cause a problem with the fire compartment?

Floor I’m planning to use rubber interlocking tiles to cushion the weights.

I did think about just insulating the external walls and plasterboard on the internal walls for aesthetics.

It will always be a garage and not a habitable room – if we ever go down this route in the future it will be a proper conversion.

I’ll consult a plumber to assess options for moving the gas pipe; hopefully won’t be too difficult as it runs the length of the wall from point of entry to the boiler so will aim to get it move up near the ceiling and will build cupboards below it.

Ok, so I can bond insulated plaster board directly to the two walls attached to the living room and utility room and will put batons on the exterior wall as this is where the gas and water pipes are running so will put them behind the plasterboard.

I think the first 12 inches or so back from the door are single skin (red bricks) and then the rest is concrete block on the inside and red brick on the outside so assuming it’s cavity.

Whether it’s riding a bike or driving a car fast that video show’s the danger of excess speed & other road users not expecting it.

Will make me think the next time I’m about to boot it on such roads.

Fully extend it and pump it up to 250psi. It should sort it.

I’ve converted 2012 Revs dual air to Sektor DPC Coil so don’t see why it can’t be done.

I bought some katec bearings from eBay last October – survived the winter and still feel very smooth.

It’s a time consuming job but rewarding – superstar sell some cheaper bearing pullers – the Horst link are blind so a little tricky.

When I said screwed I meant knackered / broken.

Are you using the plastic syringes with the red plastic attachments? If so I’m willing to bet your syringes are screwed.

You maybe lucky and only have one knackered syringe… I’ve successfully bled avid’s with one syringe – caliper first (leave the bleed screw in the lever) prep the syringe a third full and vacuum the air out of the brake with the syringe and then do the lever in the same way.

    wurzelcube

It’s probably the bleed kit… but if you want an excuse to buy Shimano’s I’ll take the Elixir’s off your hands if they are going cheap…

I get on very well with a Specialzed The Captain – comes in 2.2 and 2.0, really good tubeless rear tyre for uk trails; don’t put the s works version on the rear as the side walls aren’t up to it.

I’ve put the coil in a revelation so don’t have the markings on the fork; I need to get a fat mate to bounce it!

I didn’t have the patience to wait until tomorrow; I’m only able to compress them 3 inches or so – it’s a firm spring so I suspect the problem is I need a softer spring. I’ll set it to minimum next time I ride and will look for some big and safe to bounce off to try and get 4 or 5 inches used.
