    My choices would be

    Innerleithen
    Kirroughtree
    Drumlanrig
And G/T on a weekday when it isn`t overcrowded which make it unbearable imo.

So is a “winter” road bike just a road bike with mudguards ?
Or does it have two wheel drive, traction control and snow tyres

I have Laguna 2 sports tourer 2.0 dti which I was given and there is plenty room for bikes etc.Fuel economy is about average and speed comfort are OK but nothing exciting.
Suspension seems achilles heel with shocks replaced after about 20k odds and the rear beam bushes are rattling for the last 30k as it is a bastid job to do apparently.
Would I have another ? probably not but since it was free I don`t care tbh.I have had worse.

“…some UK made Starrett ones and you could drill a hundred holes before wearing them out.”
Another Scottish Borders product, from Jedburgh.

I have some Starret micrometers etc. and although they have a place in Jedburgh Starret is an American company and afaik most of the precision stuff is made over there.
    Edit, found on Google

Manufactures band saw blades, power tool accessories and optical measuring projectors.

    No drills

‘Made in the UK’…by a Polish worker…for a foreign owned company.

Nothing like a random comment to get me interested. Which company is this then?

    How about Rolls Royce cars.
Watched one of those megafactories episodes and a fair few Poles worked on the cars for their German owners in the UK factory.

I for one work in manufacturing and tbh the decline in our “kudos” has been there for about 50 years.
Apart from the odd niche company the desire for most “British” people isn`t to make anything of any worth as there is little money to be made in manufacturing almost everything.

Thermal panels make a lot more sense.

From a point of view of efficiency maybe but the FIT of PV panels is the major advantage ,assuming govt doesn`t renege on the deal in years to come.
If it was just about the electricity you would save then it wouldn`t be worth it.

Cycled it and yes it is boring.
Bowling near Old Kilpatrick to Falkirk where you go uphill to Union canal an on to somewhere west of Edinburgh ,Craigiehall IIRC to take the road from there to Edinburgh.
Light would be an advantage at Polmont tunnel and if it has been raining some sections are manky, weekends are littered with dog walkers and drunk fishermen and the city sections in Glasgow can be the haunts of neds drinking Buckfast etc. so cycle faster and also a bell as well as most walkers are deliberatley deaf.
Make sure the wind is in your favour before setting off.

    Enjoy 🙁

Make sure you start in the very centre of broken stud.
Start with small drill and then gradually work up to tapping size if necessary of the broken stud.
eg. an 8mm bolt is in a hole which is drilled 6.8mm
Take your time and make sure it drills in line with stud also.
I have had the pleasure of removing an array of items, extractors, drills, taps and various other stuff, in the unsuccessful attempts of others.
Sometimes the use of a very sharp centre punch can be used to turn out the offending stud if it isn`t too seized.

I think this get out clause will be used maybe ?

Riders approaching 250 pounds in weight should not ride any
    bicycle …….
Failure to follow this warning may result in catastrophic failure of the component or bicycle, which may lead to serious personal
    injury or death.

Stopped drinking a while back.No reason other than I was getting bored with it.Started to drink alcohol free wheat beer which is identical almost imo to the real thing.
So I figured it wasn`t really getting alcohol but just having a drink that I enjoyed.
Major plus points are I have lost weight and I am fitter to ride more than I was before.
Been buying the beer from here.

Expect a grand for changing it over to a felt roof with plywood and new joists, which I had done recently, and the disposal of asbestos, which I believe was discussed on here a month or so back.
I was told by the builder disposal of asbestos was about £500 ,I used alternative disposal methods.
