Think yourself lucky, a mates sister is currently having a nightmare with a property she bought and that was after a 1000 quid survey. The only thing they really picked up was a loose ballustrade. It appears the house is now falling down and an indie surveyor set on by her insurers has devalued the 450k house by 150k. It would also appear the vendors knew of the issues and she has proof of this but I can’t go in to details. The shit storm is well and truly only just starting. Feel very sorry for her.

Could you face teaching it? Construction h and s is massive now with even basic ops being put on the sssts course. Last two I did were taken by ex forces personel, first one was an absolute prick who liked to talk about himself second one was a real gent of a bloke who had some awesome stories to tell if you wanted to hear them. He knew of the other course leader …..

Clearly a few people on here who only know a fraction of what stokes did during the summer. The world cup final was watched by countless non cricket fans also, even if they only tuned in for the last 2 hours it literally went viral and was sport at its finest.

    Drill and bolt it

I’d personally drill and resin it.

As for bikes and storageI used IKEA shelves and on one jobsqorth hangers.

Some of the more ‘basic’ trades – painting/plastering etc

Bit of a harsh comment. There are plasterers and good plasterers, there is nothing basic about any of the finishing trades. You’ve openly admitted that regarding the decorator, the old adage of “if you can piss you can paint” does not cut it with high end finishes.

Tight arse QS’ are the main crux of the construction industry and that’s why mass builds wind up with such shoddy finishes at times.

Woaahhh there, I’m not berating the hse at all. From the outset if you read, I suggested the best practice was to work in house to reduce, blah blah you know the hierarchy im sure, the incidence of it happening again. In the op’s case it would appear at this time a one off incidence of low consequence does not require the involvement of the hse.
If it happened again on monday then hell yeah we need to sort this.
I genuinely dont mean to come across as flippant.

For the record I did mention if after investigation the employee was unhappy they should approach the hse personslly…

Is there such a thing as a “union rep” for a garage? I’ll be dead honest I don’t know.

I’ve seen the hse in action, two up, dog with a bone. Justified as somebody lost a digit but a raft of changes didn’t ease their intrigue! Now run by one of the most litigious American companies I’ve ever come across and the hse are regulated, (paid if theres a problem) visitors..

Oh sorry, did I condone death in the workplace in my post?
The hse are thread bare, they self fund, even though they dont like anyone to know that? The main problem is the hate grows for them when we know they fund themselves by fining “us.”
I will repeat, any worthwhile employer will review and rework their working practices, take on board feed back from employees, and spend as much time as possible not trying to kill anyone.
The days of going to work and possibly not coming home should be left in the mines and mills.

In what way? Internal review and investigation of an incident are surely the most proficient way of determining the cause and reason of any incident occurring in the workplace and to stop it happening again. I live in the real world and not one written in eutopia (sic).

This tells me all I need to know about your understanding and dealings with unions, that is to say very little by the sound of it.

Please enlighten me on the car garage union that would advise the “victim” of any more information than the initial proper investigation would come up with.

RIDDOR events need to be reported to the HSE within 10 days.

    Not according to the hse

I clicked on of the fake ID posts and there was no report button but someone may have already done so if that’s the case.

Why does he need to speak to a union? What expertise will they have with the individual event. I refer to my earlier point re “troublemaker”. The last thing any business wants is the hse crawling all over them, geed up by an over zealous union man, when it may not be necessary. Speak to the management team, assess the incident and any injuries in house and go from there. If cougars girlfriends mum’s brothers husbands wife or whatever it was is unhappy with the outcome and isn’t happy with the hierarchy of risk management put in place then go from there.

And after the in house investigation report under riddor if it is deemed necessary. Varying time scales apply.

He shouldn’t be reporting it to the hse, that’s his employer’s job. I’d also suggest speaking with the management etc before going off on the whole hse tangent. It may not even be reportable. It clearly needs addressing but going straight in on the whole hse/compo angle will do him no favours whatsoever and unfortunately may single him out as a “troublemaker”
And…..before any of you start bleating I’m not condoning that possible behaviour by the management but it does happen.

Ring them up, they are always very helpful and willing to go through things with you. It makes no odds really if you earnt 59.99k or 95k you’ve got to pretty much pay it all back.
Don’t ring at dinner time though, you’ll be on hold for a while.

If externally beaded and newish I presume there will be a wedge gasket on the interior. This pushes the glass tight up in to the beads. I dont know of many extruders still using external beads, quite common in ally windows though.

How old are your windows? Are they externally or internally beaded?

As i said previously in this thread and about 18 months ago when I first found out about it, HMRC have employed new staff purely to hunt out this kind of evil, tax dodging, illiterate, badly informed scum.
Also, as before don’t stop claiming it, just put it aside and pay back when you get your bill, people’s situations change and according to our accountant it can contribute to a partners ni payments and it can be a real bastard to set back up once cancelled.

^^^ that’s the kind of sciencey reply I was hoping for.
So we could expect at least a cold spell with possible blocking pattern if the ssw occurs? I await the imminent return of the express “beast from the east” headline….

Building regs all sorted by the loft conversion company.

    Protected means of escape etc.
Was it inspected? I rarely get fussed about planning/regs on here with some of peoples development suggestions but i always
feel loft conversions are a priority when it comes to regs.
Also regarding the planning surely there was some input on where you could put your velux windows?

3rd for white night, bog standard version. Our new fancy digital one has a load of unnecessary settings and digital buttons and it’s no where near as good. Old school timer dial and hot or not so hot button was all the white knight had and it was just better!

No they sent the units out but wouldn’t commit firefighters in to the building. One was a garden centre warehouse that was apparently littered with rechargeable batteries in things like garden gnomes.
