I doubt that anyone on here rides all of exactly the same tracks as you do, at the same frequency or with the same requirements for speed and comfort. Therefore, any advice is likely to be largely irrelevant, especially as you’ve not outlined any of that in your post.

    thanks

Said the same thing this morning, tree at the bottom of the garden has a magpies nest in it. The tree is almost bending in 2 with the wind but the nest is still there intact. Incredible

What’s wrong with the Flare Max? Are you planning to crush DH runs on the Pleney all day long?

If not I think you’ll be surprised by how tame most of the official trails are.

Decent brakes are more important than anything else!

Out of interest (because there are apparently a few people who seem to know the system), is it obvious E.g. at age 12 which kids are going to ‘make it’ vs the 99%? Or do kids progress / change enough over the years that the ‘average’ mid-pack 12 year old academy player has a shot when they get to 16-17?

Its all about how they develop in that time, Ive had a bit of time around academies and scouts looking at 7,8,9 year olds and personally think its bonkers that they are being scouted at that age.

Ive seen kids who are scoring goals for fun at 12 years old, but by the time everyone else catches up physically at 16/17 they are no better than the rest.

I set up one of the Child Trust Funds that were around at the time, but i think they are no longer. Most banks will have a Investment type account that you can setup with a regular monthly payment which can be added too. Good luck getting the grandparents to forego buying all the tat they can lay there hands o though :)

What I would ask is; why is your road bike not getting ridden? If you’re riding MTB instead then not convinced what you’re solving for (ie will a gravel bike with road wheels make you ride more road than a road bike? Probably not).

Riding more MTB, still like getting out on the road bike but not as much. Ill still keep my mtb but use the gravel bike for commuting etc, but keep a set of wheels with slicks on for the odd occasion.

Around here in Bolton, there is quite a large Indian and Pakistan community, and before lockdown I have rarely seen families or Individuals out on the moors enjoying the scenery. During lockdown I have noticed more and more which is great to see in my opinion. Lots on bikes, lots walking.

New Zealand is definitely on the list, Brother lives in Queenstown. Just need to save up a bit for that one!

Are you wanting nice driving roads or nice scenery or both ?

A bit of both but don’t want to be driving for hours and hours everyday, so something a bit more compact would definitely be what we’re looking to do.

If it’s Irschen near Lienz then you’re in for a treat.
The Lienz Dolomites are amazing and to the north you have the Hohe Tauern National Park. (The Dolomites are very close, as is Slovenia). One of my favourite places. You could probably live there forever and not do all of the walking, climbing, via ferrata and riding options.

Plus all the Carinthia Lakes for summer swimming and sailing

It is, sound awesome. Hopefully going next year.

Austria is on the list, mother in law is from Austria and wants to go back to see family (Irschen)
and i want to bugger off mountain biking :)

How old are the brakes? Ive had the same thing happen to Shimano brakes after a few years of use, a fine mist of brake fluid on the pads due to the seals perishing.
