I am not sure if it would be approved by proper crafts folk but when I once did a shelf into and alcove and had a wobbly wall I carefully used filler. The filler was sawdust from the shelf and glue.

I carefully put some wide cheap plastic tape along the wall exactly where the top of the shelf would be. I then put a strip of decorators immediately above that. I mixed the filler and pushed in into the gap between the shelf and the wall. The stuff behind the shelf stuck to either the wooden shelf or the plastic tape. Some smudged up the wall but was only on the decorators tape. When the filler set I carefully sanded and trimmed the filler and removed the decorators tape to leave a nice clean line flush with the wall, well the plastic tape which you couldn’t see.

When we later removed the shelf, the plastic tape had lost its stickiness with the wall and cam down still stuck to the filler.

Oooh, does that count as a ‘life hack’, I have always wanted to do a life hack?

I assume you will fix the batton to the wall and then slide the oak shelf on with the batons sliding neatly into the grooves.

Will everything align perfectly along the full length of the shelf?

Will you secure the shelf to the batons with something other than friction?

Glue – how will you every remove it?

Screws – are they going to show from above or below as you might be sat below at the desk or above when standing?

Other than that, it seems feasible

Thanks – you are welcome down anytime. I only live 800m from Southampton Bike Park so happy to show you round. Might have to wait until after my knee op. I kind of wish I hadn’t delayed that so I could host the 4X now.

If you want to head down to Southampton there is Southampton Bike Park and about 500m away there is Lordswood for singletrack and about 1/2 a mile from that the new Southern4X track.

Here is a compilation that brings any slackers almost up to date : https://youtu.be/B1L5zhnMO8c

I make these to remind myself that I am actually making progress rather than justy endlessly sanding and breaking things.

From about 2:30 in this clip is the airbag day at Southampton Bike Park a little earlier in the year : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPrKAvL3hzI

I look a lot younger, and better, in this video and you can’t tell it is not me because of the full face helmet.

The event in cancelled due to the weather meaning the track is too soft and muddy. We don’t want a full race event to rip and rut the surface.

I will still be there, sheltering in the container with one of our demo bikes and lots of information about what is planned if you do still want to turn up. You can even bring a bike and try the track, or at least the drier bits of it.

Why does having ‘stuff’ cause people such a problem?

I have some stuff tucked down the side of the garage that I haven’t thought about for years. Why would I suddenly want to get stressed about its existence and have to stress about getting rid of it.

I feel this was an idea introduced on Day Time TV so that people emptied their houses of all their superficial stuff and then bought a whole load more.

Contaminated surface that was painted over.

Probably something seeping through the underlying plaster.

Possibly damp being heated by the fire and steamed out through the more porous area that is flaky.

    Unlikely to be honey badgers.

Me, the first time I saw the internet through a browser – like you are doing now, rather than the text command line – I said there was little use or purpose for it as it was nothing but an online Yellow Pages* showing adverts. This was before web pages were much more than a collage of static images and text but still…

*Our younger viewers may need to Google Yellow Pages to understand the reference

Drawings are amazing, stories are fun and its a girl as the lead character. – Thank you.I have tried to achieve that in my stories. I think Kate Morag has done something similar :-)

She is only 7 so I suspect will struggle to read some of the words like putrescent reek but otherwise a great tip.

At the moment they still think I am writing them completely so I don’t want to break the magic…

Sorry for the delay and the slightly shorter clip this week but real life got a bit shit and slowed stuff down.

The great thing is that i now have an infinite number of stories generated quickly and even the plot ideas can be autogenerated. The kids think I am an amazing story teller, so much better than those boring books Mum reads them.

The picture is AI too – Openart.a – A pencil sketch of an adult a girls and a boy pointing at a starfish and a crab in a pool in the rocks by the sea

In Googlesheets, it is properly inset into the text so looks correct when printed

If you every get a ‘random scrutiny’ check it really gets farcical. I had one when I was using a personal car for company work. Approximately 40,000 work miles and 8,000 personal. I added up the bills and split the costs 40:8 claiming the business mileage expenses but deducting the petrol that was paid at cost, not at a fixed rate.

I ended up on the phone with a bloke who asked why I was getting my car serviced 4 – 5 times a year. I explained that it had a 9,000 service interval which he told me was ridiculous and his Vauxhall Cavalier only needed servicing once a year. He also pointed out that buying 6 tyres was obvious fraud as my car only had 4 wheels and couldn’t believe that a powerful front drive car used it’s front tyres more quickly than it’s back tyres. Again, his Vauxhall was still on its original tyres 4 years after he bought it. After 3 months and countless emails, scanned receipts etc the letters stopped coming. When I eventually managed to get through on the phone I was told that the case against me had been dropped and I should stop wasting their time.

As Fossy says, if you don’t mind being on hold for a few hours, give them a ring to find out why they are asking first.

Possible you have gone over some earnings threshold or they have lowered the threshold. It happened to me a few years back. The PAYE website isn’t too bad to fill in, providing your employer has sent the details and most is prepopulated. The first year is the hardest, both to get access to it and to work out what the questions actually mean. After that, each year is pretty much the same so just print and keep a copy of the first one you do.

The sad news if that someone is stuck with (probably) replacing the roof.

I would find the cost of the replacement roof and then negotiate with the buyer about who pays for what. I think you can sell them the benefit of a small reduction on price and they pay for the new roof. Just think of the benefits to them of this lucky chance to buy a house and get the roof done exactly as they want it. So much better than you just sticking up the cheapest thing you can get away with.

Perhaps they would like to use the opportunity to add a couple of Velux windows and make an attic room, perhaps the want solar installed at the same time. So many options and such freedom for them.

For insurance, it needs to be accidently cracked. They won’t replace it for screen chips even if it is within the MOT fail area. They also get quite suspicious if they refuse a stone chip claim and you submit a claim for storm damaged* smashed screen a week later.

*hit by a neighbours trampoline. Fortunately I had a photo to prove it.

I recently took a return from Southampton to Leamington Spa which is direct service. Due to the wonders of split ticket pricing I got a return Southampton to Reading, a single to Didcot, a return Didcot to Leamington Spa and a single Didcot to Reading. Each direction on the returns was an individual ticket.

Okay, it was ‘only’ 6 tickets but it was a direct service and I was travelling on my own. It did save about £50 but took ages for the guy at the ticket desk to work it all out.

I have never seen DIY glass polishing end well*. Either polish splattered everywhere and no noticeable improvement or cracked glass from the heat of over polishing. Not sure if professional cleaners are any better, or that much cheaper than a new screen.

If you do find something that works, let me know as 2 of my cars would benefit.

*Headlights can be massively improved with simply car polish as long as you keep the buffer moving and don’t loiter in one area too long.

    A) To get rid of the noise from the plastic roof, replace it with glass.

    B) To get rid of the benefits/drawbacks of the conservatory tear it down and replace with a brick extension.

    C) To get rid of most of the noise and most of the benefits stick plastic cladding over the roof.

To me, most of the benefits of a conservatory are the clear roof so you can see the sky – not just the brighter room which could equally be achieved with maoire daylight lighting. The drawbacks are the heat/cold compared to the main house.

If you want something as temperature controlled as your house without the clear roof, build some more house. If you want the benefits of a conservatory with less noise, fit a quieter roof.

Hanging sliders mean the weight of the door pushes over the friction of the runners. Floor runners get crud on them and the wheels judder against these.

I mentioned to an art group that I did balloon modelling sometimes. This turned into a request for 50 flowers to decorate the exhibition hall for the Autumn exhibition.

Prior to this I did snakes, worms, swords or dogs. Today I tried my first flower.

No, it is absolutely clear, even for working from home. If you are signed off sick, you can’t work at all.
I had long discussions with HR when i snapped my foot off and was in bed for 6 months and then on crutches on and off for 5 years.
I ended up only talking 3 weeks of sick leave, basically long enough to set up my home office in the bedroom, and then returning to work. It was agreed that my boss and i could work out together how much i actually wanted to work. It was a mutually suitable agreement based on trust which worked well.

Thanks, that is what I hoped. I have an auto car and work from home anyway. I will decide how much time I need/want to take but am sure it will be less that 2-3 weeks.

    Ride the wave!

On youTube I have 27 episodes of me butchering a 911 and I have less than 400 follows and average about 3-400 views. I post 1 clip of some people dancing in the street and get 75,000.

Watty – i stayed the thread to share trivial but annoying storm damage photos after my gazebo broke in the recent weather but then it just descended into mocking my car.
