The front of the sole of my shoe is coming off a little bit, and I can’t decide whether to glue it myself or bite the bullet and pay for a re-sole.

On the bourbon, I had a fantastic bottle of Blanton’s Special Reserve a few years ago. It was a duty free bottle, and I’ve never seen it over here. Had a round-ish bottle and the top of the stopper had a little racehorse on it. Lovely stuff.

I used to use the train a lot, and I still check the fares to see whether I can avoid hiring a car. Unfortunately, unless you get lucky, or are booking 12 weeks in advance, it’s just too expensive. Heathrow to Dover and back was coming in at £150, whereas a car for the weekend was £65 – stupid though as the car will be sitting on the drive for the weekend!

Even if the car hire works out a little more, it’s usually worth it for the extra flexibility.

Shame really, as when it works it’s a really nice way to travel. Dover to Leeds over Christmas one year, stopping at the champagne bar at Charing Cross en route, still ranks as one of my favourite trips…

Spooky – I’ve just been going back over that old thread for this (which one for a <2 yr old), and bought the 10″ bike star one that’s on amazon. Looks pretty good, pneumatic tyres, brake, and it’s a splendid colour 8)

Duplicity. I found it deathly dull. Really wordy and complicated and boring.

Fantastic Mr. Fox, in contrast, was very entertaining. Much better than I expected.

chakaping – it is a bit bleak, but that’s why I found bits of it so funny I think, totally deadpan and absurd.

It doesn’t look very comfortable. No wheels or swivel. Does it even recline?

    :(

Treadmill makes very little difference since planes taking off are all about airspeed and not groundspeed.

But until the plane is in the air, then groundspeed and airspeed are the same, aren’t they? If the treadmill/conveyor belt keeps up with the thrust, as it moves the plane, through its wheels, then the plane will stand still and not take off. There.

    EDIT: hang on, that’s not right. Oh dear . . . :(

    Very helpful indeed. Thanks.

I’m actually quite tempted by the beard one, and debaser’s set up. Snuggly. The meat ones, less so. Most of the others are a bit big, or have too many tentacles.

Errr… I was thinking of something I could wear for the journey to work, perhaps with a suit, or a pair of smart trousers at least. And it really needs to be dead (or at least immobile) – I don’t want it disappearing up a tree, or getting run over.

ooh, a coyote. I have to admit, I hadn’t thought of that. That young man is clearly pleased with his.

I like the Scotch pancake one too.

I’ve got an Acer. I really like it: good screen, good speakers (for what they are worth), and I really don’t think that much beats it on the hardware side for that money. It’s a little bit bulkier than some (eg ipad) but it’s cheaper. Still looks and feels well-built and pretty slick. Honeycomb is still evolving (but each upgrade adds new features) and the relative lack of Honeycomb-specific apps is one possible drawback, but for what you are looking at I would recommend it – and hopefully future upgrades will work for a while to come and the apps will only increase in quantity and quality.

Drawbacks – the camera’s not great, but I have a camera for taking photos. Battery life is not amazing, I just charge it overnight.

On the Xoom – I’m not sure that Google’s acquisition of Motorola will have much impact on the current tablet. It was all designed and built a while back.

    Hope that helps.

Give it a whirl. If you’ve got a wodge and decide to come back after a couple of months/years, it’ll just be a slightly smaller wodge. Why not take six months, see how you feel after that, then sell up if you’re sure?

Only the extra height. Seems like it’d be easier than bending down into the car sometimes is.

My dad had an old C5 for a few years and loved it – particularly the fact it was comfy, smooth and easy to drive. But then he had problems with things; the electronics aspect and ‘niggles’ which Renault, Peugeot and Citroen seem to suffer from.

They are great – having bought a tablet and used the Kindle app on it a bit with the backlight down low, I think that the actual Kindle device, without the backlit screen, is brill. Much better than the (for me) slight eye strain from the lcd. Virtual ink or whatever it’s called – clever stuff.

It’s working now, I’ve calmed down a bit. Fair enough – people will find a use for it, or ignore it as you say. I just had a moment of social networking/everything-wants-to-read-my-hard-drive and share it crossness :-)

I still think it’s unnecessary, perhaps I’m lagging behind. Is it for mobiles? Could I stream music from my pc to my phone (if I had a suitable phone)? Is it for the ‘cloud’?

So, you want creative people to come up with an idea then stop being creative when it suits you? I bet you like Oasis

Not really on either count. I wouldn’t really care to be honest if the thing worked, that’s what’s annoying. It just seems to have made it cumbersome. I’m not sure that linking it to facebook is particularly creative, either!

I went to uni there – it’s OK. I used to cycle round a bit and as others have said, there’s nice places outside the city. That said, the run along the bay towards the Mumbles on a sunny day is pleasant. There are some right hills, too (Constitution Hill I think, about 35% or something stoopid).
