“I wonder how road bike disc brakes would cope with those descents?”

“I was surprised at how many people were using deep section carbon rims fro the event TBH more of a hindrance IMO on this type of terrane”

Very happy I have to say running 80mm carbon rims. Managed 50 mph on kirkstone but then they are laced up to some DT Centerlock hubs and have some BB7s doing the slowing down thing on shimano XT rotors :-)

My Clockwork Orange, in a very limited matt orange apparently only 50 were ever done like this just near finishing the restoration just need a Rolls Sadle and apart from a new chain and cabling it’s finished…. Now I am sure someone is going to tell me that the whole of 1991 production was done in this mode…

Phil Wood’s easy to service and look fab but heavy, love my hope’s but love my DT 240s as well, easy servicing and go forever. Hope Ti Glides from 2002 sill going strong just competed their 4th 3 Peaks.
Kings just look to much hassle to look after but never having owned a set cant comment on real world use.
Bearing change on the Phil Woods is just as easy as a Hope.

Got a Merlin XLM in 96 as a bike for life three years later replaced with a Orange Sub 5 that’s gone to ( Fisher Rosscoe currently no doubt replaced with a 29er full suz)
The only bike I kept hold of is the Dave Yates from 91 in 531c, did 65 miles yesterday on it.
A contender certainly. Salsa Fargo, Steel crosser with disks something like that would be on the list.

CoOp soap flakes on all my outdoor stuff and in the washing machine its bubble tastic! Then nicwax and a tumble dry,the system has worked perfectly for years, just debating the P.V.A thing going to have to give it a try on a old jacket or something and wait till the wife is out as she will freak out if she sees me tipping P.V.A in the washing machine!!
