Had many since 1988 but the Merlin XLM with AMP forks and XTR was truly garbage nearly stopped me from riding so much for the hype eh? Sold it and got one of the first Orange Sub 5’s after having a go on the prototype I was soon back up to 3 rides a week. A brief flrt with kona dawg was very disappointing soon sold that on ebay.

Staying 5 mins from Ford at the far western end of the Loch just tried making sense of the map its looking like the CX bike is going to be the best option and lots of fire road bashing. Not bothered about the wet bit as I live in Cumbria.

Ok just put a slightly different spin on what can be done myself and a mate of mine did the park in Glenridding thing yesterday and rode along the the Tarmac to Hartsop the rode pushed carried up to the Knott. Slight switchback was employed to take us back down through to Angle tarn Pikes, Boredale, Side Farm and a quick #transition #isthisenduro across the valley. Filled up on cake at the Ullswater show and then along Grisdale. Death march up Dollywagon ( just an exercise in can it be done rather than fun going down so you might as well slog your way up it) Across Hellvelin taking in White Side, Raise and down Sticks (awesome ) and back to the car 5hours all done back home in the shower by 1.30pm managing not to use up any points and had top afternoon with the kids everyone’s a winner. :D

Moved over to a 2014 720 after using orange 5’s since they first came out . Riding stuff I never ridden before & like the fact I never see any in The Lakes when out riding but then I don’t go to trail centers……..

Rims, hubs & spokes your choice but must be built by Mr Murray at Keswick Bikes. Oh if you make any silly choices he won’t build them.

Would rather ride The Lakes than ever bother with Keilder again.Mind numbing Sitka and fire road would have used the cross bike if it had been allowed.

Been an Orange owner since 88 finally changed over to a 720 loving the traction/ CDT thingy + it does it all very well Got the shop to swap the forks over on purchase to a 34 talus as it rather rocky here in The Lakes and I had found the 32 a bit noodley in a 150 guise.

What’s the difference between ski guiding and MTB guiding I can’t see any. Happy to pay to have quality day rather than scratching around for good routes.

Been on discs for 6 years now after a brief 3 months on canties and wearing out a set set of wheels in that time it was a no brainer for me. The wheel sets are all so interchangeable between my 29er :D

Specilized Roubaix was on my shopping list not now I will be buying something else. Specialized are underlining everything that is wrong with huge corporations, not happy until they rule the world killing anything that gets in the way.

It only a few years ago that I used regularly see him on my commute grinding up Kirkstone pass on his way to Ambleside. Awesome rider and total hard man. Ride in peace John.
