Not sure what was more silly Manchester to London or the Keilder 100 MTB race when it rained from the very start and didn’t stop all day. Ran out of pads at 30 miles in did another 30 with no brakes in the rain and grinding filth new set fitted at 60 miles in and they lasted to the end. 500+ field on the start line I think only 180 finished it on that wet  wet wet day i came in at 50ish position just as broken as the bike. Chainrings, cassette, chain and the jockey wheels all went in the bin after that one. Manchester- London was just a stupid day out, Managed 235 miles in one go as I got lost in London trying to navigate to my brothers house whilst bonking horribly. No money what’s so ever at the end if I could have gone into a hotel and got a room and a meal I would have around 40 miles earlier I would have.

    Don’t forget your cash card ! .

Any options for using a  B&B doing it over two days? I am becoming softer in my old age and prefer to travel light.

E bikes are great my 75 year old mother inlaw has replaced quite a number of car trips with hers. It’s been a very positive thing to get her back out on two wheels, But it’s the pilot in control and how it’s ridden. You can legislate for stupidity and by keeping the limit at 15 MPH it keeps the none thinking from causing more carnage. Judging how may people think is fine to hustle my ten year old daughter on a blue route whilst shredding on a electric mopeds is quite amazing, Assist should be no more than 10 MPH in a blue route situation. It really has taken the pleasure out of going for a ride with my daughter as the number of close silly passes is quite alarming.

Had this before.. the splines need a clean. Use an o-ring pick or such like to get the rubbish out. If it’s not that you have the wrong end cap. First time it happened to me the shop mechanic couldn’t work it out and neither could i, it was bit of grit.

Yes, World’s biggest apparently it was very efficient and I am still eating meat. I am an omnivore so do mix it up a bit. Carnivore only diet would be a bit dull.

Done twice, A third time will not go down well at home. Will be doing a mini type event and aim to get out for an hour every day on any type of bike over the two week festive period. Shouldn’t get in two much trouble for that. Good luck to those doing the 500. Enjoy.

No problem with people on any type of bike on any trail apart from the nobs on blue routes blasting past my 10 year old daughter rather waiting for a more suitable bit of the trail to pass. E-bikes just happen to come across as more aggressive due to the speed.. a polite excuse me is certainly more scarce from the powered brigade. A blue route with kids and occasional cyclist partners bumbling along is not the place for achieving roost/strava KOM’s etc.

Old BMWs belching smoke and tailgating, Audi RS3 and Focus ST anything thinking its ok to drive 2 inches behind.

Latest trend…. convoy’s of Lambo’s, Porsches, GTR’s etc flying round blind corners at warp speed through the villages on the way to and up Hartside Pass with go-pros stuck all over to record the event. Ultimately it will spoil the fun for all when average speed cameras get stuck up all over.

“If you want to race, turn up, pay your money, and stick a number board on you bike. If you’re slow, you lose, if you cheat, you get DQ”

^^^This is the truth of it.   Strava is not any less worthy in theory but when the accuracy can be out by 30m and never gets better than 5m its not valid. How many wheel lengths is 5m? In a real race you would lose. Best to use proper timing chips and photo finishes if available to confirm a finish position.

Some were formula re badged, Mine didn’t last long new axel and bearings after the third ride out, new hub after 7 months. Replaced with a DT 350 as the discs are centerlock and hope dont do a CL hub. Not impressed.

Having used a saw professionally for felling and converting for the forwarder for a number of years I would strongly advise to get somebody else to do it. Chainsaws IMHO are possibly the most nasty bits of kits I have ever used. Glad to see that harvesters have taken over the job I used to do. If you simply must  Husky is my preference with the shortest bar I can get away with +  all the PPE I can muster. Seen some appalling injury’s in the past that could have been avoided. Physically the hardest job I have ever done but very rewarding when you look at the nice stacks that you have created.

Series 3 V8 long wheelbase safari was what I learned to drive in aged 13. My dad had a very liberal view to me driving it, So he sat drinking beer whilst I drove through towns, city’s and where ever I was told to go. More than a few times we trundled past the police my and my dad never flinched. Upgraded to a 110 V8 after a while and being left to use it without a chaperone. Looking back it was total madness on my dad’s behalf.

Finally got round to doing my test & passed first time aged 22 and bought a metro van for £1000 which was killed by being rear ended at a junction. Golf GTI addiction started after that.

On my GTI, Wouldn’t buy a car without it now I use it all the time. It’s is quite literally a life saver the brakes kick in quicker  than i can react if my foots not covering the pedal.

Sage advice on any subject, The amount of technical knowledge on here is fantastic and the different points of view on anything & everything is truly entertaining.
Second hand parts have saved my bank account many times.
Peoples generosity with time and money with regards to helping complete strangers is properly hart warming and for those who helped me with the Defender thing a few years back thanks very much, I would never have got any money back without Singletrack. I owe you all a drink.
My spelling and grammar has not been improved though.
Louise, well its all true in my experience, a close escape.
