I in the always wear a lid camp if I am honest only take it off when walking with the bike if at all. Had some issue with feeling too hot in the summer but got a more vented lid for the proper xc stuff ie meridas etc. Other wise I have a Xen.

I have seen my mate stack and snap his lid clean through on the bit above his ears and some of the vents after a drop went wrong, lid must have done something there.

Agree with the risk thing though I dont think that wearing a lid or pads makes you safe from everything but it helps in most cases I think. I know a chap who rolled his car as a teen ager and got thrown out of the open window as the car rolled and burned if he had worn a seat belt he more than likly would have died now he never wears a seat belt I just cant see that this is a good thing.

For me the pros of a lid out weight the cons and I have looked at this a lot look at journals etc on the web. so I choose to wear one, if you dont well I think your daft, but its your choice if some one stacks I'll always ask if they are ok, help if I can. The I wont help as you didnt wear a lid is shocking mate. By that thinking if you were wearing spd didnt clip out in time and fell and hurt yourself could I ride past thinking well cant use them properly so F88k em??

Either way hope we never need to use our lid or skulls in a crash related incdent!

my tactic is to try( please note try)to time a manual so that I popo the front of just as it rolls off the edge usually works….. ;)

As for shins got some 661 vegge shin gaurds just brilliant as I had got all SPD in my riding, and the terror pins were leaving me lookinng like a shark attack victim! Not issue with long ride s in them but all day stuff 50k+ meridas I stick with SPD's

Thanks Chucky did think about some talas 36's but the revs are 150 now so I'll go with those not enough Gnarl for 36's bt they would be good for the alps on the five…… 8)

After fork for a Bfe build but was thinking of some revs maybe not sure about the 36's for a trail bike 160 is big, will it not handle like a battle hovercraft on the tight stuff?

My mate has been riding the spooky horror taxi 650b that was reviewed in STW a while back loves it was a weapon on the downs and did seem to climb better may be the wheels or placebo effect on me! Either way was a lush bike mate.

now I'll be honest most of my riding is singletrack twisty stuff little jumps and drops 3ft max!! therefore I fail to get the g of Gnarl (note is a small g) so is may be classed as simply narl….now that was a jeep track with no technical features except a bit of speed….doubt it gets the G or N making it ral maybe?? now put in that "The frame offers 220mm (8.6in) of rear wheel travel" and I am either massively under biked and have the skill of Mr Peat crossed with andrew shandro… and should give up my day job and move the wife and kids to the world cup Dh rounds where I will rule for many years or that guy needs to find an actual trail!

Hi mate I have a five and a mojo, so got a dw link bike. Firstly the service from orange for me was really really good havent got a bad word to say about them.

As for riding, the mojo is a great bike they 5 and mojo both are set up with the same forks etc the new fives 2010 are a lot slacker now 67.5 I think but are a blast to ride down hill I have no issues with brake jack or bob i do use the pro pedal on the climbs and tight stuff but thats how like the bike to feel as I ride for big down drops etc I switch it off.

Dw is very good too like the supplness of the sus seems good on the squarer stuff the back end is more skittish I find though.

To be honest and this is a refection of me maybe, I would keep the five over the mojo any day its a very confident sharp bike and is the best I've ridden, incuding mojo lapeirre heckler spesh, i just love that bike. The low BB just takes some getting used to I found my thrid rid out and i didnt get this issue.

So in short no I'm no help!

Hi mate the alpine has 160 front and rear the 5 has 140! Love my five it’s got the slacker head angle this year and its super fast mate!! with hind sight I'd go for the maxel end now but I'm a big chap240lbs and the back is still really tight so not a big issue would love a 160 but my riding terrain doesn’t need 160mm I'm afraid either way your wont be disappointed amazing bikes.

Is the butcher the end of the heckler? Is there a new 4x coming? can the nickle run with 140mm forks? Is the nomad C a direct competitor with the mojo hd or built tougher?

    Edit eh Please!!
