If you’re looking at the Cotic, then Id say you’re not hung up!!

I’ve got no issues with Carbon for an MTB, it was the bike I always wanted so I rode it liked it and went for it.

Saying that my Road bike and CX are both steel!!

Hello mate, Ive been through the same loop as you but Im 6’3!!

I’ve ridden back to back the Anthem and Epic, 26ers (this was 2011 when riding a 29 was what riding a 26er is now you see!! ) at a Demo at Cannock

Anthem felt way more trail bike than the epic, and was great on the Singletrack but the Epic went up hill faster and felt racier/ was faster for me over all.

I bought the epic, no regrets it’s my one MTB now. Ive raced (badly TBH!!) three day events, shorter stuff done some Merida marathons, ridden it in Wales, northeast, lakes both trail centres and natural stuff and I love it.

What I will say is it is a race bike, and asks a lot of you when it get really rough but it rewards you for working hard! Ive put a dropper on mine now for mucking about as the lack of skill, QR seat clamp and high saddle gave been interesting at the end of the day!! But it’s made it a brilliant trail bike too.

    Hope that helps??

I wouldn’t slate the prize to be fair, if you don’t rate it don’t enter, but why slag it off on the fourm?

Im not sure that banning people and chucking their money back at them is a good way to deal with it either though??

    EDIT

I judge their comments posted on our site to be rude and unfair. The response we received above just convinced me that it’s for the best if both parties go their own ways.

    Actually fair enough.

    Mate,

    You’re not alone,

You’re not the only person feeling like this,

You need to talk to some one, (Samaritans are great)

    You can beat this feeling.

    Look after yourself.

In the end of the day the 7k carbon enve wheeled bikes ate the Ferrari’s of the bike world look and admire but it’s not gonna happen! But we do seem to get less bang for your buck than five years ago tbh group set wise certainly.

So will the change be attritional then? No more 26″ bikes as time goes no we trickle across to 650 or 29er? To me the big issue seems to be no more 26er rather than another wheel size?

    Wookster

    I know Mike!! I can’t see why 650b is such a big deal!! 😀

I’m surprised at the vitriol coming out of this thread! Ive had a look to see if I can find the 29er version of this thread from three four five years ago!

I understand the issues Im on a 26er (as I said earlier in the thread Ive been blessed with a no longer made bike with a one off 142+ wheel standard thanks Spesh!) but Hey Ho Im not buying an MTB for a few years anyway and wouldn’t due to these changes and that I don’t chop and change bikes too often.

But has anyone ridden a 650b?? I doubt many have Ive only seen one in the LBS at Afan, they might be blooming great! But lets be honest WMB is a sales pitch, and always will be like What car, but Im looking forward to Worland eat al celebrating how awesome the 650b what not is even better than the super duper Santa Cruz Tall boy LTC. (Which is the best thing ever)

In the end we will be driven by bigger markets in the MTB world unless we stick to smaller companies Cotic On-One who cater for the UK market more. It will still come down to riding the test bike if you like it buy it regardless of wheel size. Id be surprised if the after market 26″ parts market had the a&$e torn out of it for a while yet.

I wouldn’t buy a new bike at the moment, it’s all too much up in the air!

Luckily the ability to purchase has been removed for a few years so Ive escaped this terrible fate, and Im now riding a “classic” 2011 100mm 26er in fact the big S decided that 26ers ate dead about three months after I bought it so Im now niche-tastic! Unlike the 29er crowd!!! 😆

If you’ve got a big jaw and/or interesting eyes I think you can more than get away with it.
If you have small piggie eyes and/or a weaker jaw no hair makes you look like a fiddler.

I reckon the Genius 29er isn’t a bad shout. It’s a 130mm travel trail bike, it’s towards and more XC trail end of the spectrum TBH, Ive looked at them for a next bike, I ride the same area as you. I don’t think you’ll be overbiked at all, but it’s nice to have that bit extra for when you do go away.

Anyway, you’re never over biked just under trailed!!!!! 🙂

125mm at the back end is a good amount I reckon, But liKe all Santa Cruz frames it will be epically expensive 😯

As for 650b V’s 29er it’s one of the reasons I won’t be buying a bike for the next year or more till is settles down a bit….that and my retro no longer made (2011) carbon 100mm 26er is so perfect I have no need apart from shiny shiny sindrome!!!!
