Have you looked at Campag? It’s worth a look if you’re shopping. I’ve got it in my road and CX really nice stuff, I like the hoods. Shimano I find doesn’t suit me as well but is great shifting. I’ve not tried Red.

Im in the same boat young kids job that takes all my time so traveling to ride regularly is a pain. The road bike is much easier and faster to get out on. I do ride my CX bike a lot in winter on some local loops, really enjoy it but its the same level of washing as a MTB ride but with no driving! The trails a fast but not techie so perfect for a CX bike IMHO.

I’d get a cross bike, I love mine it makes loops which are nothing on an MYB fun, plus the gearing etc will add a challenge, discs do make a huge difference.

    ***But a warning***

CX riding ESP in winter is a stupid idea, it’s cold wet and hard going. Inexplicably though you’ll find that you’re addicted 8)

The shift under power from small to big is great and the other way around, from experience shifting from one end of the block to another (or any combo you want) at the tough of a button….. Auto trim as mentioned Eh……. Id rather buy a super record mech grouppo if I had the cash though….as Ill never be able to buy dura ace or eps!

Yep the perception of the brand adds value, if it adds performance is another question.

The stipulated threshold was £4500. So which is more ‘super’ – an XTR equipped Canyon or an XT equipped SC, assuming the same cost?

Touché Sir! The boutique factor can and does blur things some what, but both are still a lush bit of kit so a score draw! 😈

I don’t think that XT stops a bike being a super bike TBH! If its all based upon cost a Santa Cruz carbon bike (any of them!) =2.6k, fox fork 900, Dropper 300, Enve wheels=1800 plus bars stems finish kit and full XT is well over the original 5k “super bike” limit!

I’ve got a boot mounted rack, short of mechanical failure of the rack, or bike where it’s held it’s not budging. It’s used when I can’t get the bike in the boot….( I’m happy to leave the kids but mrs Wookster less so! 8) )

Tow racks are great but the £300 to fit the bar plus the rack put me off this time round.

Mrs Wookster just got one of These from the interweb. It weights a ton 37lbs! but seems ok for popping to the shops and to school with the kids general pottering where a Full Suss just won’t cut it!!. Might be worth a look?

XT is a good shout, though I like SRAM shifting Sao on the 2×10 but won’t run avid brakes!! Are you going with a dropper??

Do you need the 34 stantions? You can save a bit there if not…..oh and you’ll need some ENVE carbon wheels on DT Swiss 240 ceramic hubs……. 😈

I found this for the first while with mine. You need to have the loose bead right in the middle as you fit the rest over the rim? Does that make sence??

We went with bambino merino sleeping suits, worked wonders along with seeing which washing power didn’t set him off. Have you looked at Scratch sleeves[/url] these are really good and merino too.

The cream will take a few days to kick in, but keep at the Doctor, the allergy nurses were awesome when we got referred.

Feel for you and the small person mate. 🙁

Avids are awesome when they work! ButI got sick of awesome brakes, leave over night pull to the bars the following day, and no bike or ride this was on juicy sevens, threes and XX. So I’d avoid like the plague…..

I’ve got a set of Slx over three years old no issues, I’m Shimanos all the way mate.
