If it wasn’t on a public road or a council car park then it is a contract/civil issue so you can just ignore it. If they do chase you then the advice is to send a letter with £5 as reasonable payment for compensation and their inconvenience. This is what the guy in the motoring section of the Saturday Telegraph always recommends.

Come on people I am sure there are some good engineers out there that can come up with a eureka idea. We can send man to the moon so I am sure we can stop bikes being nicked by scum. Then again the second oldest profession has to be stealing

Didn’t Ikea do that with all their staff a few years back and everyone just sold them on ebay. So much for trying to get fit and health staff.

I am based in Bristol but location is not really an issue as happy to use people further field. I need some aluminium HE30 parts made each one being 150mm in diameter and 40mm thick. So looking for some CNC turning and multi axis milling. Need about 100 parts made as a first batch and then increasing to around 500. So pretty smallish job. Tolerances don’t need to be great +- 0.5mm. The problem with Bristol and the South Wes is most CNC companies are making aircraft quality parts so costs are really high.

I’ll drop some of you an email

For all you people that don’t turn things off at night, why don’t you do the sums, save some money and then treat yourself to some nice shiny bike bits. It seems to me that you are throwing money down the drain that could go towards some cool anodised bike parts.

Do a deal with your self that all the money you save you treat on yourself. If you did it on the quiet the wife wouldn’t even notice!!

You need to seriously stop using Facebook, MSN, texting and the such as they are really not healthy. These things are really not good for talking to someone as feelings and what people really mean don’t always come across correctly. You also end up wondering why you haven’t got an instant reply and trying to work out the meanings in words. As you see her often I would just sit her down and say things aren’t working for you and are screwing you up. Lay down the law in nice way and say things have to change to keep you healthy. If she cares then she will be willing to change your setup. If she doesn’t care then she will kick of and refuse to change, but at least you will have an answer. Cool to hear that you are getting help as I have always found that talking to the professionals does always really help. Suddenly you realise you are not alone and things can change.

Its very difficult for any of us to comment on the rights and wrongs of it. None if us have lived through a world war where the possibility of your country being invaded and the entire population being wiped out is actually on the cards or at least the threat and perception is there. Also remember that in reality there were no civilians as everyone was somehow involved in the war effort even if they were just baking bread for the people that made the bullets. When there is a full scale war then the gloves really do come off as you have complete hatred for the other side as it is “kill or be killed”. Do we not think the Japanese would not have done the same if they had developed the bomb. During a world war (i.e. a chance your country will be over run) has there ever been a time when the decision has been made to not use the most powerful weapon an army has irrelevant of the deaths. Granted the US was not going to be overrun but they were so committed to the war around the world.

I still find is strange that only 65 years after we bombed the hell out of each other and millions of people were killed that now we get on and there is no level of hatred or resentment between us and the Germans and Japanese. How was this pulled off as it is one hell of a piece initiative.

Dont think I am trying to say the A bomb was a good or bad thing but I think it is just very easy for us to criticise people for making decisions when we have not experienced the events of the time. How many of use would have been happy to be the one that had to make the decision. I bet 99% of us would have bottled it and abstained.

Your right the partner does always get up the duff half way through the project and they have to have the baby whilst living in a caravan. Poor planning if you ask me.

Start of the year jacked my job in and started my own business, lots of stress and uncertainty and then whats happens, wife gets pregnant. Is god trying to tell me I am just as bad at planning as most of the hapless couples on Grand Designs.

I bought a PureBlood last year so know a fair bit about building one up. Had quite a few issues with the build as advice from various bike shops was dubious to say the least.

First off Pureblood rear and front drop out spacing is fine for MTB hubs
Disc spacing is the same for road and MTB disc brake systems. Bike shop told me they differ and tried to sell me bloody expensive Bontrager disc road wheel. Turned out the fork was built wrong (shop didn’t believe me) but Fixie sent me a new one and said they were changing the design.
I have a set Hope Pro2 hubs running on 29er rims.
29er rims are the same size as 700cc rims.
The only disc brakes I could find that work with road levels are either Avid or Shimano. With both it is quite tricky to actually source them, especially for a good price
Pureblood is made in Taiwan so quite expensive for what it is
Lots of trouble getting mtb cranks and front mech to work as I was trying to reuse them.

To be fair I am quite disappointed with the PureBlood as the frame even through steel just beats the crap out of you. God knows what it is like off road. My aluminium road bike gives a smoother and more comfortable ride. Try out a PureBlood before you buy as I wish I had.

Personally if I was buying again I would buy a fully built bike as there are just lots of annoying pit falls trying build a disc road bike, loads of parts are just really hard to get hold of. I would look at a Genesis Crois de Fer as I think it is a really good price for what it is. I would put money on it that it is made by the same people as the PureBlood as a lot of the details are very similar. Forks are identical

Writing this on a Macbook Pro that I have had for 4 years and it is still running fast and with very few issues. I do loads of Photoshop processing and speed is never an issue.

Would you get that with a PC? I was very sceptical when I first got a Mac and they certainly aren’t perfect but to be fair they do last. Oh and if I wanted to sell this Macbook I would still get quite a few hundred pounds.

iPads are expensive but they work really well and more importantly unlike a netbook are always on. No need for waiting to boot, connect to the internet, explorer to open, etc, etc

It's going to cost £12m because it is a state visit by the Pope and the money is for all the pomp and ceremony. We spend the same amount if any head of state comes to this country. If he came on his own accord then it would costs a lot less and the Church I guess would have to cover it. The government should never had said yes to a state visit in the first place, then again £12m is bugger all in the scheme of things. Probably spend that each week on tea and biscuits in the civil service.

What I seemed to find on the internet when I had the same problem was that the seals on Avids are square edged so as the piston moves the seal roles but can only move a certain distance. Basically the piston does not self align as the pad wears. What I did was take the pads out and then pump the lever just enough to push the pistons into the position you want, basically as close the disc as possible with just enough space for the pads. Then insert the pads and power should be back. Its a bit trial and error but does work.

Not brilliant as they come out quickly but always have to order parts so you end up taking at least 2 half days off work They do however keep our 10 year old boiler working without the need to shell out £3000 for a new one. As it breaks down at least once a winter it is very hand to have the homecare cover.

Connect to your computer. Logon to iTunes and do a reset.

You won't be hacking the password as thats the whole point.

Once it has reset you can then do a rebuild from one of your old backups held in iTunes

From what I worked out from going to Chamonix and Les Gets is that if you just go on your own and follow the marked trails then they are all reasonably rubbish and blown away by the trail centres in the UK. I really think you need to go with a guide that can show you all the great tracks. You can see them often from the cable cars but just don't know how to get to them.

To be fair most people who get knocked off and therefore increase the stats in my opinion are riding like idiots. You get so many people either flying along a break neck speed, jumping lights, etc or you get the people tootling along at such a slow speed they annoy the drivers who then make mistakes and they get knocked off. If you ride at a sensible speed to keep up with the traffic, abide by the rules of the road, no undertaking, etc and always concentrate then you should be fine.

Comute should also be enjoyable so I would stick to the B roads where there are less cars and you can relax a bit more. Commuting by bike is brilliant as it builds all that training into your normal daily schedule and around cities it is much faster than going by car or bus.

You could always use the argument that by get your training in the day, it then leaves more time in the evening and weekend that you can spend with your wife!!

Have a whip around from all the parents and local businesses. How much does a bike shed cost, £5000. The school will bite your hand off. Works with a park I help to look after, the council bitse our hands off every time we offer to pay for anything.

Thanks guys. I never seem to wreck wheels so I want a super light set.. Seems like talking to Just Riding Along is a good place to start. It's a real shame Hope don't do a quiet hub as they seem the best for the money and I know the quality is top notch. I have some Hope hubs on my cross bike and I curse them every time I ride it.

Similar things happened to me about 6 months ago. The police wouldn't hand it back as they said it was the insurance companies property and they couldn't sell it because it was owned by the insurance company. Anyway I rang the insurance company (Tesco) and explained it all and they were a little bemused as I think Police normally just hand the bike back or chuck it in a skip. Anyway I got them to fax a letter to say that they didn't want the bike back and that the Police could hand it over to me. Basically the insurance company have no use for the bike as it is not worth their trouble so they are normally happy for it to be handed back to you for free.
Got the letter, handed it to the Police, all fine

All I can say is try an iPad before slagging it off. I was skeptical at first but it really is a great gadget as it is just so much easier to use than an iPod touch or iPhone. It is the slickness of the software and not really the hardware that makes it so good. We all know that Apple hardware often copies what is already on the market and for the price is lacking but the user interface and way software works is just so good for a consumer product.. Yes PC's are good but Windows as a consumer product is rubbish. The way I see it now is the iPad if great for using apps in your house where the iPhone is great for when you are out and about.

Lastly the iPad is bloody quick at surfing the web, it is noticeably quicker than my iPhone or Macbook Pro at loading web pages.

Give it a few years and I bet the most of you will have one just like the iPod. Well that's my view anyway.

People in the public sector haven't yet woken up and smelt the coffee when it comes to the recession. There can't be many private companies that haven't stopped wage increases, bonus, asked staff to take a 10% pay cut, sacked people, etc. The public sector just seems to want to carry on as normal and doesn't seem to get it that they should be doing the same for less. Everyone else has so why not them.

How about this for a job advert
Bristol based charity teaching under privileged and disabled children to ride bikes. Great idea which I do support, however!!
Co-ordinator wanted, 2 days per week, work from home and choose your hours,
    Remember this is a charity
    £19,000 fixed 2 year contract

Old photos of him works well. Used it a couple of weeks ago and it went down well. Doesn't matter then if you are a good comic as people are just laughing at the photos.

If he spends most of his time on the computer then you have to refer to porn somewhere. Maybe you expected his new girlfriend to be a Thai bride..

Get the details of the bikes on http://www.immobilise.com. The Police often recover bikes very quickly but have no idea who owns them and they don't check records of crimes reported as it is often too time consuming. They do however check this database.

    It has worked for me.

I have quite a few over the years and the best quality ones are either the Philips ones of the own brand ones from Calumet. Basically you get what to pay for, all the cheap ones have bad screens that a pixelated and have funny colours. I have the 15' version of this and it is brilliant quality

If your Crank Bros products have failed within a month, take them back to the shop and complain. If they are not fit for purpose then they should to give you a refund. Remember things come with a 12 month guarantee so us it. If it was a washing machine you wouldn't just dump it after a month and not complain. Why should bike bits be any different.

I can understand why some people would love the clicking sound as I always thought it sounded good when I was following people, It's just doing my nut in now. I think I'll try the pack it with grease option but that does make me think that it wont be engaging properly.

Could I fit a Shimano free hub?

Your carbon frame is designed to take a hell of a lot more punishment than it will get from the roof rack. Just think of the forces going trough it when you jump off a drop off. I don't think the light clamping forces of a roof rack are going to cause any problems. They don't for thin walled aluminium so why should they for carbon fibre. My carbon Scott Genius has been fine and I use a Thule rack. The fork mounted racks are just a pain and as you have to put a muddy wheel in the boot why not the whole bike, they kind of defeat the purpose of a bike rack. Not just that many work manufacturers advise against them and do not warranty forks broken in them as they say they put undue strain on the fork lowers!!

Guys as we know Bristol is a nightmare for bike crime. get your details on http://www.stolenbristolbikes.com/ as the police use this to track bikes and return them. Also get your bike on http://www.immobilise.com/ its free and the police use this and we have just had a bike returned. They have loads down at the station but don't know who owns them.

The more people that use the stolenbristolbikes the more likly we can help catch the scum in Bristol. The people who nicked our bike used it to mug a woman. Police knew the bike couldn't have been theirs so confiscated it.
