That's very cheap. Was it a good job and do you mind me asking where?

Make sure you get the long gel 😉

You've done one thing right ie. NOT posting a pic of the bike like I did with 'position' problems

Double wrap of bar tape and moving the hoods up sorted it along with a frame that actually fitted me 😳

You mean you can't tell 7.632 PSI with the squeeze test.

Course I can but just occassionally I get fooled by manufacturers changing the tpi on the same model tyre.

    Woody

    Only joking 😉

Out of interest what do you use to check your psi as any I've tried on pumps are wildly inaccurate?

    Woody

Try 8.5psi – works for me – anything over 9, I find it's too bouncy. Under and it's too wandery

No you're wrong. Everyone knows that 7.632 psi is the optimum, which should be adjusted by .267psi up or down for every kilo if you are over or under 80.4kg. Also increase by 0.015psi if the pollen count is high.

I understand what you mean but it's like saying the painting done by a 3 year old is just as good as a Chagall as both are simply paint on a canvas.

As you are an engineer you should be able to appreciate the complexity, workmanship and skill which goes into high quality watches. For most collectors it's nothing to do with public willy waving, as the vast majority of the truly expensive watches (and by that I mean by way of complications in the movement) will rarely, if ever be worn.

Have guess how much this one cost before scrolling to the answer at the foot of the pic. It's the same watch BTW photographed on both sides.

    US$ 1.5M

It has 834-parts and took a master watchmaker more than 10,000 man-hours to complete.

I use a sun dial strapped to my arm with £4 grip tape from Chain Reaction Cycles.

……..and a compass on the other arm ?

some of the Breitlings are very bling I like mine which has a nice kind of industrial feel to it.

They are beautifully made. I've fancied an Oceanmaster for a while now but only because I can't afford one of these.

Go for it. Funniest programme on tv next to You've Been Framed and you might get to meet that rather stunning presenter and I'm not talking about The Hamster.

One of the guys at work has just done The Cube which will be aired in September and had a great time – look out for a short, fat ambulance technician 8) He's won 'some' money, obviously not the 'big one' but enough for some decent 'treats'. He can't tell us until it's aired, as he won't get the money if it becomes public. Apparently they check facebook etc. to see if there have been any 'leaks' !

Surprised you didn't get your money back, at least, on the Rolex.

Breitlings are lovely, but less 'bling' than a Rolex….hmmm. I used to have a custom made chronomat (originally commissioned for a mate who is a main Breitling dealer) and one identical to the one below which I changed to a pilot bracelet. I still have the leather strap but no watch as I didn't feel safe wearing it walking home from the pub 😥

I wish the girls good luck and although I haven't been up there for some time, the cafe was exactly what I thought it should be.

I just hope that they don't instal one of these souless, generic, shortbread tin, hoots mon och aye the noo, pensioner/tourist ghettos selling overpriced 'local' crap, where you expect Andy Stewart to burst in singing "Donald where's yer troosers" at any moment, that seem to be proliferating everywhere, especially around Aberdeen.

I do take it off when running to attend any incidents at work

I don't know what's worse – wasting those vital, potentially life-saving seconds to remove a watch or the fact that you RUN……….unless it's a punch-up of course, in which case, get in there son 😉

£2.5k rules me firmly out. Let's hope someone can do a rolling chassis for a lot less.

Around $1600 HERE or $2500 for a full build.

Why, have you just bought one too ?

Strange how there are so many people -ve about watches on here. I have a CK headset but my bike rides exactly the same as with the one I bought for a tenner in On-Ones sale. I also have a G-Shock which I regard the same as I would plastic pedals ie. does the job but ultimately cheap plastic crap.

My current favourite watch – not expensive as watches go but very well made and a limited edition of 50.

That sounds like fun and they look great – in fact I might stick a 3.0 Gazzalodi on the front tomorrow to get me in the mood 😆

Depends on the packaging. Last bar tape I bought took 5 minutes hacking with a kitchen knife just to get it out of the bloody packet, so returning in the original packaging would have presented a slight problem.

your never going to justify the investment needed to build the lift accessed trail centres

But that is just the point at Glenshee – the lift access is already there waiting to be utilised, thus creating an all-year-round revenue.

I think the biggest problem with Glenshee will be the level of exposure to the elements as there is no tree shelter………….and I speak from many miserable days having my skin blasted off by horizontal sleet !

Edit – Re Lisa, you are forgetting the STW demographic, I have a daughter almost the same age 😆 As for the youngsters on here, I agree, they are obviously all gay.

Why did the OP not just wrap the tape without removing the sticking taping bit.

What possible reason would the OP have had to do that? It's bar tape FFS, it's designed to wrap around curly bars of standard length and more often than not has 'extra' built in to accommodate varying bar lengths and shapes. This was too short, therefore not fit for purpose. There is no argument and as far as I am concerned the OP wasn't rude.

The CRC guy however, has probably added several zeros onto a £4 'dispute' in lost future revenue by his total ineptitude in dealing with a simple quality issue.

what will you do when the shop you have turned top refuses to pander to a mad customer?

Mad, as insane. or mad as in angry ? Why do you think someone complaining about something has an "overinflated self importance"? No-one is asking for special treatment, just a return to the excellent service of old.

I will still be happy to use them because of price and choice. I simply won't use them on the very rare occassion I must have something next day.

I haven't been down there for a couple of years (too near the ex) but I'm not complaining as there is loads to find over where I am in Langley Park.

    Where's the OP gone?

There's loads of stuff as above but if the OP wants a road route for whatever reason and only for an hour or so, it's a bit limited.

Mike, there is still the cheeky stuff at Houghall and more. Essel, that route is also good in reverse, especially if you go through Spennymoor and take the path from Middlestone Moor down to The Browney at Croxdale.

Why didn't you just support your local bike shop in the first place

Not everyone has one (or a decent one at least) and even then, they may not stock the specific brand/item you want, so mail order is the easiest, quickest and often cheapest option.

Talking of which – has anyone used or know about the new'ish shop that has opened in Framwellgate Moor in Durham. Might have a look in there tomorrow anyway.

Mountainbiking is always going to be a fairly insignificant sideline for the ski resorts in this country

Not if they have any sense it won't. Given the poor snow records, last year excepted, if they are to have any chance of being viable they have to diversify and utilise the facilities all year round if possible.

A decent mtb network incorporating uplift would be a welcome bonus for the local economy.

I don't know what type of 'pick-n-pack' system they use but it doesn't seem to be working very well at the moment. Single item orders IME arrive next day but if you have 2+ items it seems to increase the processing time.

I even Washed my nob beforehand as well, but to be honest, I'm glad it wasn't needed…

Now that's a comment you won't hear from a bloke very often.

There is a bloke at work who's first words to his (now) wife in a club were "you look clean" !! It was in Darlington however, where such things are not taken for granted 8)

So you don't have 60cm bars 8) Which tape did you buy?

Last tape I got from CRC (cheap) it had to be fairly 'tension stretched' as it was put on but was fine in the end.

    after a 2 hour drive

In a ferrari on blue lights maybe ?

I was intending going up there next month but it's now looking like October. Anyone know if they run the lift all the time or is it very much weather/demand dependant?

    LOL @ SFB

I look at, and appreciate, the female form all the time too. It's probably down to being a heterosexual male with a pulse. I draw the line at photographing their bums though and rely on my memory, but I guess when you get to your age Simon……………………..

I change my bikes a lot but rarely make a profit. By profit I do not necessarily mean gaining financially in 'hard cash' but by gaining in asset value ie. a bike which is worth more than the initial value prior to commencing trade.

Edit> PP nothing wrong with that and it's swings and roundabouts for most people on here. The point is that at the level FFS is doing it, it should come under a different classification, especially when the goods are knowingly mis-sold or he misrepresents himself to buyers and sellers alike.

    Woody
    Free Member

thatsmyyeti – yes, you appear to have a point and from what you and others have said it does seem that FFS is trading and possibly using, how can I put this, less than scrupulous methods of obtaining goods at a reasonable price.

As has been said above, buying a bike supposedly for 'bits for another build' and selling the rest on such a regular basis is definitely constitutes trading.

Do you actually mean 'road' or is it somewhere to ride where you and your bikes/you won't get covered in cack?

If you head through Durham towards Nevilles Cross you can access the cycle routes which can take you in several directions eg. towards Brandon or the other way towards Lanchester but if it's only an hour on the road you would be as well looping around Durham. You could try the following

Head in to Durham, over the river and right towards the hospital, through Framwellgate Moor, A167 to Plawsworth, at roundabout take a left to Sacriston, Witton Gilbert, Langley Park where you can join the Sustrans route which will take you straight back to Bear Park then Durham. Or you can hang a left at Sacriston or Witton Gilbert which will take you straight back to Durham by road.

the older you get the broader the range of attractive women seems to get.

Not round these parts, although in fairness I am most definitely NOT looking.

One of the problems is that I see women when they are 'not at their best'. Someone who I could well have found attractive, intelligent etc. at 9PM (if I went out 'socialising') can be a very different proposition at 2AM when they have had a couple of bottles of wine and 50 paracetamol! Unfortunately, I'm only seeing them at 2AM and the fact that I could have unwittingly been there under different circumstances scares the crap out of me, particularly as I've only been on my own for 18 months since leaving 'the mad bitch from hell' 😯

I would also echo Karinofnines sentiments that it is very nice to do what you want, when you want. It does occur to me that perhaps posting on a mountainbike forum at midnight is not exactly the most productive use of time and my day has been occupied with dog-walking, bike riding, bike tinkering and a bit of cooking. But hey, I've just finished 4 nightshifts, the sun was shining and me and the dogs have had a cracking time, so as far as a partner goes I'm happy with taking the attitude that if someone comes along, great, if not then that's fine too 😉
