I really can’t be bothered Ernie as you obviously do not understand how a ‘plot’ works.

It’s true…..and yes it is unbelievable!

Okay so what would you do if you got a call at 5 hours and 50 minutes?

Control would not call unless it was a major incident as we would technically be ‘non-operational’ due to the length of time without a break. Hypothetically, if for some reason there was no cover in the area and control did call with a confirmed cardiac arrest, serious incident involving a child etc. then (speaking personally) of course I would attend as a ‘first responder’ until a back-up ambulance could get to the incident.

Edit: What meehaja says is spot-on. Without sounding cynical, out of every Cat ‘A’ ie. supposedly life-threatening call, maybe only 1 in 50 truly is.

Ernie, as you only appear to read and draw inferences from comments to accommodate your perceived political bias in others, I would point out (again) that my comment was linked to the ‘crook’ aspect and the probable voting bias towards Labour.

It had NOTHING to do with MP’s expenses ‘irregularities’, merely a comment on the fact that MP’s, of any political persuasion, will do anything to gain votes! In this case, it would happen to benefit Labour.

    Oh Ernie…..tut tut..

I would have thought it was obvious, even to you, that the majority of prison inmates would technically be working class and therefore Labour voters 🙄

Apologies. Having re-read your posts I just assumed you have limited knowledge of emergency medical services.

    thefutureisorange

It doesn’t work like that as it is very rare that you are on station to start a break every 4 hours. There are ‘banding times’ eg. if you start a shift at 0630 the banding for the first break is between 1000 and 1200. You can be sent to an emergency any time up to 5 hours 40 minutes from shift start which in effect means that if you are enroute back to station at 1205 (already out of banding) and an emergency comes in, you HAVE to attend that emergency. By the time the patient has been taken to hospital and you get back to base, it may be 1400 ie. 7.5 hours after the start of the shift. This is not uncommon.

I understand your ‘angst’ and reaction to the ‘facts’ as they have been presented thus far. However, I think it would be better to wait for a full report on the events before making patronising comments such as “you have to treat them all as serious until you have something to the contrary”.

It would have been ‘advanced’ first aid involving technical machines, strong drugs,

Advanced Technicians are very limited on the drug front ie. nothing except O2/airway management and CPR in cardiac arrest and there is no mention of a second crewman.

BTW I’m astonished that Mrs Keith (see link above) has apparently been so ‘open’ with the press regarding a colleague on a matter which is subject to an enquiry.

I was under the impression that ambulance staff have a legal obligation to have a brake every 4 hours

Not possible, especially as many work minimum 12 hour shifts with 2 half hour breaks within that period (unpaid BTW). In addition, in my last 4 day shifts I actually worked over 50 hours with late returns so it doesn’t take much working out that is not uncommon to go 6 hours without an official ‘stand down’.

From what I have read on the above case (if you believe the newspapers reporting is accurate), the technician was asked to go out and refused. I would rather not comment on the circumstances of this case until all the facts are present but I don’t know of anyone I work with who would refuse to go to something of this nature regardless of whether they were on a break or not. In my area, you would not even be informed by control if you were ‘stood down’ so would be unaware of something happening.

I used to use a spoon but this year I finally got round to buying the Park one HERE.

Best £4 I’ve spent as it saves so much hassle.

I thought about these and went for DMR Motos instead. Not much difference in weight (depending on the model) and they seem to handle on and offroad very well.

For gawds sake Ton, you are a big boy (literally)! Go and have as many pints as you want. I’m sure you have the experience to know when you’ve had enough and if you haven’t had a drink for a while that should be much cheaper night 😉

The ‘binge’ label is a joke and entirely unrealistic from the point of view of your regular social drinker. 4 pints on a night out is hardly caning it and for most blokes that would barely set them up for a kebab !

its fair enough after the expenses bollox we all know the mps are crooks, whats the problem with letting other crooks vote for them

The cynical might say that it’s a Labour plot to gain a few more votes.

As your Granny needed access to get in and out of her house, looks like the police is the way to go. I know when a colleague found his garage blocked at 5:30 one morning the police took great delight in ‘loudly’ waking the moron who then had to move his 4×4 and stand in the cold while they thoroughly checked the vehicle and his details !

Unfortunately, I see far to many people, virtually every day at work, who just want to talk to someone, anyone, who is prepared to listen. I think it’s a great idea, with emphasis on the cautions from those above who know what they are talking about.

Just knowing that there is somewhere or someone to share or talk through a problem, or just generally spout bolox can make a world of difference.

It pains me to say it but………….nice one Hora 😉

There is no dispute that bikes were being used offroad decades before they were supposedly ‘invented’. My take was that it is the use of the term ‘mountainbiking’ which has been accredited to Americans, whereas we can hear quite clearly “that must have been the first of the mountainbikes” term being used in the film.

As the oldest guy in the race is 40 and this race was early/mid 60’s, surely some of these guys will still be around.

At around 4:35 the commentator actually says “there’s Rob Atkinson from the Tyne Vale…..that must be the first of the mountain bikes his idea maybe… early 60’s” or words to that effect when the straight bar bike is in shot.

Very interesting film and the referee is from Stanley, where I work !!! 😆

which is that trade unions, despite the media bollox, have no power or influence.

    ….because of their ineptitude?

I would disagree with your statement anyway, as unions do have power and influence if used correctly.

    Woody

    firestarter

but it was basically a blank contract we ended up with

that makes sense unfortunately and confirms my worst suspicions re union ineptitude. I think my lot will have the same problem in the not too distant future and management will have the upper hand. I’m afraid my experiences with unions and their ‘reps’ has not been good and I have no faith in their abilities (or the morals of many of them, which I will not go into here) and I speak as a union member 👿

you go to work as normal on the first day on at 8am then work til 7pm then you got to the dorm with your pager til 8am you then report for duty. you do this for 4 days and 4 nights and you are not allowed off station for the four days unless in the engine on work related stuff. you then have four days off and report again four days later.

Do you have a link to this as I can’t find any mention on the link above. Do they really propose that you are ‘confined to barracks’ for 4 days solid ? If so that’s quite staggering!

I had one done by Triple-S many years ago and very nice it was too. When I asked again a couple of years ago the prices were bore no relation their website ie. they wanted over £80 for a standard metallic and I see it’s still advertised at £49 !

What did yours cost DBW as they were good and I’d use them again if the prices were as per website HERE

I’m more surprised that the GMC/local trust didn’t pay all his expenses for an extended stay at The Priory. That would seem to be an entirely justifiable use of taxpayers money to assist a highly qualified medical person with his….. errrrrr problems 8)

I have never heard such a load of cr@p in my life – even worse than sugary probiotic drinks!!

Haven’t read any of Foxy’s posts after reading this as the above statement is ill-informed crap so the rest probably is too. My ex works for one of these ‘probiotic’ company’s. The evidence of efficacy is huge in reduction of c.diff, G.I. upsets etc. which is why sales are rocketing in hospitals.
