You seem to know more about this than I do – I take as I find from personal experience.

I would be interested to know what proof you have re minimum wage and particularly the handbuilt wheels and maybe Andy would like to come in and answer the allegation ?

ps. I ordered a pair of THESEa couple of weeks ago and the ones I received were a very dark blue/black, although the packaging etc. was correctly tagged ‘indigo’. Spoke to CRC customer service who were very helpful and offered a refund as they were now awaiting new stock. Decided to keep them in the end as I preferred the ‘wrong’ colour but that is the price you pay for saving money mail order.

RRR, I would say the best chance of the people concerned getting anything back is to club together and get a CCJ against IWH. As PK Ripper seems to be doing.

You’ll have to be quick, as this looks like a fairly straightforward case of fraud which the police should be dealing with.

It would be difficult to buy from most large companies if you looked at them closely enough on race/ethical/exploitation/green etc. issues.

The majority shaft someone or something, somewhere in the world :x

They obviously have a high regard for their customers.

IME as a regular buyer for 12+ years, they do

You have more patience than I would have in that situation.

Having bought and sold quite regularly on here, with only the odd very minor hiccup, I will have to think long and hard before the next deal.

Shame so many user names have changed as it makes it all the more difficult to track

Never mind small claims, at £1165 (reportedly known about), wouldn’t a ‘flag-up’ to the boys in blue be appropriate ?

Like most things, the effects you feel may be there but they’re usually less pronounced than the evangelists/magazine review writers would have you believe and steel ‘feel’ is largely determined by design so many steel frames are barely any more ‘comfortable’ than aluminium ones

Very true IME. I have found the cheaper steel hardtails can have a ‘dead’ feeling ie. DN6 Inbred, 456, PA, Rock Lobster etc. although fork choice, wheelset, tyres and even bars also all have a marked effect on the ride. At that price point you get what you pay for and they all build into decent bikes.

I think you are right to go with 853 or similar as it will be worth it in the long term but bear in mind that just because it is a good steel tube, it doen’t necessarily mean that the frame angles/dimensions/characteristics will suit your riding style. The Soul seems to get nothing but praise but depending on your budget, how about a custom build or something like a DeKerf, Soulcraft ?

As Desf says – try before you buy if you can.

Working – nearest I got to an mtb was someone who’d fallen off their bike on the A68 but didn’t even make it to that in the end.

Off tomorrow and will be out rain or shine

I wonder who it was in the audience who asked the question ? The same person who made the complaint by any chance ?

Although some may view this as political correctness gone mad it’s actually an example of people standing up for themselves and not tolerating the behaviour of ignorant bigots.

Oh FFS no it’s not – it’s actually complete bollocks wasting everyones time

    Thanks all.

Decided to go with Complete Ski in the end. £15.99 which appears to cover all the bases.

Complete Ski seem to offer a good deal at £15.99 – any experiences ?

    Oops – missed yesterdays thread.

Maybe Ted is a decent bloke but IMO adult males with beards on bikes should be in the woods or up a mountain somewhere, not pi$$ing off pedestrians like a 5 years old 8O

I’ll have a look at those (quite fancy a dogtag too :-)) but it needs to be full travel cover as judging by the ‘entertainment’ itinerary it’s going to be carnage from the off 8O

Ski club GB wanted nearly £50, best I’ve seen so far covering luggage/off-piste etc is £18.50 which seems pretty good.

the only place i can recommend for riding is the woods behind cults

I saw that a few months back when I was visiting my folks – looked like a woodland bmx track with small jumps etc. Amazing to think it used to be a council tip when I was a lad !

Lots of mid life changes are dubbed a ‘crisis’ by people who are just envious of the motorbike, girlfriend, sports car, etc.etc.

And what is classed as middle age now……40, 50, 60 ?

As someone who is recently single again, I am thoroughly enjoying riding my mtb’s when I want, I can tinker with the MGB ’til my heart’s content, listen to the music/tv/films I want to listen to, or just sit and scratch my @rse, pure and simple !

    Selfish ?…..possibly

    Happier ?…..absolutely :D

    Update

Tyres turned up last Friday ie. 6th March which is 9 days from order.

I wasn’t in a hurry in this instance but I’ll bear it in mind should I need ‘something for the weekend’

Those bars struck a chord ! I have a pair in my garage which were a prototype from either PX or O-O and they are a very similar shape except on mine the tubes are continued to make a clamping area + a top brace.

Strongest and definitely the heaviest bars I have ever owned and would certainly live up to the sales tag of “would be good in a fight” 8O

I placed an order for some tyres from them yesterday with estimated despatch date of today (Thursday). Email confirmation however, gives a despatch date of Monday 2nd March and yet on the website this morning it is still showing estimated despatch today !

I’ll be interested to see when they actually turn up.

Very good price BTW so no problem with a couple of extra days delivery :D

Lighter – as Brant says + smaller wheels ‘should’ be lighter

More fun – only you can answer that

Better looking – beauty is in the eye of the beholder

If you want a new bike, go and buy it – you don’t have to try and justify a purchase with silly weight/looks questions you know

there was some ace stuff up behind the Uni science site

That’s all gone, disappeared, overgrown and probably contaminated by some horrible experiment…….don’t risk it

Lots of stuff if you head out to Ushaw Moor/Brandon direction. There is evn a hidden DH area at Waterhouses. Mostly xc with a few ‘nice bits’ thrown in which are all accessed easily via the old railway lines

Shouldn’t be too difficult for some of the more radical ‘hands-on’ members of animal protection groups to find where he lives and pay a visit. Might be a little more effective than the slap on the wrist given by the court.

Can’t check at the moment but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have one.
It is the same as THIS ONE so presumably the fit has to be tight to avoid movement……..but I can’t see it has to be ‘hammer on tight’ !

    Woody
    Free Member

Both races are tight but it’s the top assembly that is causing the problem. I had to use fairly brutal force to get it off the P2’s it was on before and I’m now trying to fit it to a pair of Nixons. It’s the first headset I’ve come across without an expanding wedge and I can’t see anything that would be causing the problem.

I’ve even swapped the cartridges to see if that would make a difference eg. ovalised cartridge but the problem is still there.

the wally called for an ambulance

Silly me for not being aware of your patient/GP relationship

    Woody

Hack his new website and insert some ‘interesting’ offers

    Woody

Mind you, my GP isn’t much better. I once went to him because I had severe chest pains expecting comforting and re-assuring words, and instead the wally called for an ambulance – I felt so embarrassed

Presumably the GP did have the full version of events and was able to conduct a thorough examination using the equipment he/she had available at the surgery. The fact that the GP was sufficiently concerned to send you to hospital by ambulance (that is standard protocol BTW) tells me there must have been enough doubt to warrant further investigation. Better to have a caring GP who errs on the side of caution I think.

    Woody

Somehow I don’t quite believe Grizzlygus’ version of events

    Do as Dr Death says.

If you call NHS Direct you’ll have an ambulance with blue lights at your doorstep in minutes.

    Woody

The ‘fall-line’ would involve some fairly large rocks and probably some airtime – not clever if you want to finish when using ultra-light kit, especially tyres and tubes.

    Woody

Even allowing for the ‘flattening’ of tv it looks fairly techinical to me and definitely not worth the risk of a crash or a mechanical for the sake of maybe a second.

Keep it up my arrogant cycling chums.

I disagree that there is any arrogance in the above posts, just (mostly) good natured, thoroughly deserved derision in response to an inacurrate and unwarranted criticism of a Scottish trail centre.
