Enlighten me, I'm obviously a simpleton who has no idea of the 'big picture'.

FFS STW at its best

I don't expect charity, we do our best to compete on price and service and can usually beat most online sellers, but we have to pay VAT and duty on imported goods etc etc so we're not always cheapest

Believe me Sancho, if there was a bike shop, like you appear to have, locally, I would use it. I have no problem paying extra for that type of service and would very much prefer it to having to order online.

Juan/SOOBalius – What a pair of self-righteous pricks who obviously work tirelessly for charity and have no impact on the environment whatsoever  Get things right before you accuse me of being greedy/selfish and start lecturing me about how I spend my net (ie. after tax & N.I. contributions) wages. Comparing a bike part purchase to non-treatment of a child or buying a TV/SUV is a ridiculous leap. FYI I live in a small village and do the vast majority of my shopping locally, even though a 5 minute drive would get me within range of several shopping centres etc. I assume neither of you buy anything that has to be imported or, god forbid, shop in a supermarket?

According to his profile Sancho owns a bike shop.

I also couldn't give a monkeys about racing. What I do care about is that I work f@%+#ing hard for the money I earn and I am not in a position to pay over the odds so that a shop can support a local 'scene'. I was always under the impression that this 'support' was a form of marketing and tax deductable anyway, or is Sancho in the bike biz for purely philanthropic reasons rather than just making a living?

Touched a nerve have I Sancho?

When I'm feeling charitable I give my money directly to charity, not by way of supporting an uncompetitive LBS. I used to, and got roundly shafted by someone who didn't know the meaning of customer service.

I would love a decent LBS round my way but there isn't one and as I presume you are not around Durham, there is not a lot you can do to help. BTW I trust that attitude is reserved for this site and not your customers !

Is that with an Alfine or derailleur? I'm thinking about doing that but it's with the older frame which has the rear mech hanger, so fairly easy.

Poor pic of my '78 B GT

As Alwin says – great fun, cheap spares and really easy to work on. I've had mine about 5 years and it has cost me around £1000 over the period but that includes a stage 1 tune ie. flowed/ported head, extractor manifold, big bore exhaust + K&N air filters + a suspension tweak/lower. Won't set the road on fire but sounds fantastic. Bumpers are coming off once the weather allows me in the garage without freezing my nuts off

I am absolutely appalled that this can happen. Surely you have a right to protect your own property and the onus of proof should be with the bailiff rather than the other way round. If I had been in my old house and left the garage door open (which I often did), are you saying they could have just walked off with my bikes, leaving me to prove that I was the rightful owner?

What are the implications if you attempt to stop them? I would regard someone removing MY property as burglars and feel perfectly entitled to use 'reasonable force' to prevent items being 'stolen'.

Corned Beef with pickled beetroot on a granary roll is heavenly. Not healthy though

Rubbish – that is one of my 'healthy option' for work sandwiches + HP sauce, and nothing will convince me otherwise …….laaalalaalalaaaalalala

When I go to Scotland a black pudding supper is essential the first night followed by a haggis supper (chippie in Jedburgh is fantastic) on the way back south. I could murder one now and it's 0850 8O

Can bailiffs enter a property by climbing over a locked 5ft high wrought iron gate ? Reason I ask is that my ex had several visits chasing a debt from a lad (son of former house owners) who we had bought the house from 10 years previously! I was under the impression that they had to get permission to enter a property and that climbing over a locked gate constituted illegal entry.

Seems to be sorted out now but it gave her a fright seeing 2 big blokes peering through the kitchen window one afternoon.

Sorry to hear about your cat -as has been said, any procedure has increased risk with age.

as for skilled jobs, a bus or coach driver is very skilled, driving a £250,000coach with pehaps 60 people on it,yet some drivers get £8.50 per hour.

…….and that compares to a vet who has studied for 7 years

However, if you ever say "go girl" again, I may well have to shoot you in the face.

….and if I ever say it again you'd be welcome to. It must have been the excitement of the 6 or so competitiors I'd seen up to that point – every one of them was stunning. 8)

Worst bit is I'm on nightshift tonight, so hopefully the drunken @rseholes will be at home watching it too.

but wouldn't it make more sense to go where the training trails are?

Yes, but it's a bloody long way to Milton Keynes and if there were enough people interested to make it worthwhile……………

Fair point Mike, I guess some folk get tired of the endless love-ins.

I think it is mostly you Al. I read that as a good review by someone who'd had a cracking day.

32" inside leg. Wouldn't want a bigger bike.

Forgot to mention that I've gone smaller and now have a medium full sus and 18" hardtail which fit much better than previous large/19"

Another thought – how about getting some lessons ? It will probably save you lots of time + you'll get set-up advice and the cost will be less than umpteen bar/stem changes – see Jedi (ad on here) who comes highly recommended.

    Woody
    Free Member

What is your inside leg measurement ? I'm also 6'1" ish and it's only recently that I realise I've been riding the wrong size bikes ie. 19" or large for 15+ years

My inside leg is 31" and judging from the seatpost on the RL you must be around 34"+ and (unlike mine) your body is in proportion, therefore a 70mm stem or even shorter should be fine.

If you are having trouble 'getting off the back' try a narrower saddle and as previously suggested, drop your saddle a touch. A shorter stem will also help this. Lastly, experiment….often the complete opposite of what you think should work does the trick eg. flat bars

And yes i have 2 daughters and when they get old enough to engage in sexual relations ships i would rather that they did it with the person that they wanted to rather than the person i thought good enough.

Agreed, but it's nice if you can have both.

If my daughter had taken home a 21 year old when she was 16 the age difference wouldn't have been an issue. I would have considered him as a person rather than an age and trusted that my daughter had enough sense to know what she was doing.

Tribal@hief = admirable that you want to 'protect' your daughter but all that an action like that will achieve is to alienate your daughter who will then lie and see him anyway :|

Honestly? I'd have spent more time getting to know her before doing anything. But then I'm old, and from a generation that didn't see sex as something you 'just do'………………..However, that's what the law is for; it removes any need for debate and simply states that this is wrong.

Crikey……… err Crikey, I don't know how old you are but that was straight from a "Terry and June' script. What about the pre-aids 70/80's, 'free love' in the sixties, the 'roaring twenties' etc. etc. Sex, as something you 'just do'is not exactly a modern innovation.

As for the law removing any need for debate, there are a few lawyers who would dispute that.

Would it have gone as far as it has if the families of the victims had no chance of financial gain?

    Are they gaining financially?

He is 22, an international athlete which implies a certain amount of life experience.

Ok, he's 25 but does that really mean he has 'life experience'? It could be that he has lived in a 'training bubble' for years and is relatively immature and inexperienced himself.

I certainly wouldn't attempt to defend or condone his actions without all the facts and by the same time token wouldn't like to hang him quite yet.

Just to put this in perspective and show how attitudes vary throughout the world, the following is an extract from Marriage Laws in the USA – and it's not some deep southern state it's…………. New York

New York: If you are 16 or 17 years of age, you will need to have a completed parental consent form filled out by both parents. If you are either 14 or 15 years of age, you will need to show the written consent of both parents and a justice of the Supreme Court or a judge of the local Family Court.

I had a similar success rate today, so much so I lost count but it was approximately………..

    Roadies – nil

    Nissan Micra – about 12

and I didn't need to go offroad to hold them off either 8)

May get it fixed one day

Wouldn't cost much and you could build a fixed fixie  I used to do Crystal Palace to London Bridge on a commute and I think a fixie would have been spot-on for that but even better in the city or west end.

    V. nice, perfect with the forks and I'm just about to have the same colour on my old Marin.

I'm leaning more towards the shorter version with drop bars at the mo' as I don't have to play in the traffic but the long version would give more options and it's only 30mm difference in t/tube. Have you tried both by any chance?

    BTW where did yours crack?

Can't go wrong with the Seiko Divers. I have 2, a 7S26-7039 and a 'Black Monster' which I bought last year and can't make up my mind whether I like or not but it never misses a beat.

Roy Taylor has some lovely watches sub £200, the The O & W Divers HERE are in the same vein.

Some more options HERE. A bit above what you wanted to spend but the PRS3 is stunning value for the spec. I bought a yellow one and it looks much better on the wrist than in the pics.

Be VERY careful when you go down there. Breakers are not generally known for being sensitive souls and with their track record I would expect at best they will just laugh at you and worst you'll be 'forceably removed' from their premises.

It's a shame the police don't get involved earlier in these 'civil' matters as it's theft/fraud, pure and simple.
