My old history teacher was fined for being drunk in charge of a horse. Fell off at traffic lights right beside a police car

Talks have now collapsed and the strike is on from midnight.

Railway strikes are also looking likely.

Nice lead up to the general election for Labour

Just watched the union spokesman giving an interview after the members meeting this morning. The style appears to have changed very little since Scargill et al.

Problem is that they are usually negotiating with well educated management who are undoubtedly advised by even better educated specialists in whatever given field the dispute is about. With the best will in the world, the union bosses I have had dealings with are generally poorly educated and have risen through the ranks because they are very politically motivated or simply because no-one else wanted the job.

It is little surprise that management usually comes out on top.

Those Powercranks are brilliant for use as a training aid if one leg weaker through injury or disability or you are a professional sack racer and even if you just want to look like cock and have kids throw sticks at you !

From June 2008 – Willie Walsh agreed to work for nothing in July, in a show of solidarity with the 800 workers who BA say volunteered to do the same.

You have to admire a man willing to make such a sacrifice for the good of 'The Company'. The fact that he will still earn over £670,000 for the year without bonus/shares etc. (potentially well over £1M) is obviously neither here nor there when you are negotiating pay freezes and staff reductions.

The unions aren't exactly covering themselves in glory either but it's difficult to keep a grip on the present commercial reality when your position is secure and you are staying (as always) in the best local hotel.

The management in my lot (NHS) recently asked the union if the, in their words, 'loyal staff', would mind taking a 5% pay cut to improve services while at the same time, many senior management have gone from Band 8a to 8b to accommodate the extra responsibility that 'Trust Status' will bring. Fantastic employee motivation

Banding details below………and they wonder why the union weren't very enthusiastic !
    Band 8a
    Point 34 37,996
    Point 35 39,273
    Point 36 40,853
    Point 37 42,434
    Point 38 44,258
    Point 39 45,596

    Band 8b
    Point 38 44,258
    Point 39 45,596
    Point 40 47,905
    Point 41 50,580
    Point 42 53,256
    Point 43 54,714

If that was a car it would be know as a cutnshut (I had to be careful typing that as I'm on a warning for swearfilter dodging!)

Tried that recently on my Love/Hate but it ruined the handling

Read THIS and judge for yourself.

A bit dodgy but you might get away with it as
    a)you are pursuing her
    and
b)presumably you weren't seeing her about mental health issues.
Whether she is willing to take the risk, or is even interested, you will have to find out the hard way 8)

My 2 dogs took off after one the other night. Bloody fast it was and (luckily for them I suspect) got away through a fence. They probably just wanted to play. Stupid mutts

so the bin men put the whole thing in the bin wagon and took it away

LOL – pity they can't do a similar thing on Fri/Sat night outside Escapades

Took me 8 months to realise that I was supposed to put glass in a green box. Apparently the binmen emptied the recycling bin and neatly placed all the glass bottles on my lawn. The neighbour opposite then picked them up, put them in her green box and they collected them on the way back up. NO-ONE mentioned it to me and I found out by accident on a day off !

You sound about as soft as me when it comes to animals  You know you did the right thing so please enjoy the dogs you have now otherwise you will regret it.

I had a fantastic dog (he was to me anyway) put down years ago on the advice of the vet, wife and others. It still eats me up that it was the wrong decision and I should have kept the dog and got shot of the (now ex anyway) wife and saved years of grief

Surely some of you have been on here or CF long enough to know that Chewy isn't a troll and his 'interesting' viewpoints are usually hilarious. BTW his english is pretty good for a 'geordie' originally from East Timor (or somewhere around there)

My sympathies re your dog. There is comfort in that she probably had a fantastic happy life with you and you can't ask for any more than that.

I'm also 100% behind TJ on what he said. How many of those wheeled out when a euthanasia debate comes along have actually had to deal with the 'sharp end' of caring for people who are only around because of modern medicine and carers who attend to ALL their basic functions? It is unsatisfactory and often distressing for all concerned.

As a Paramedic, my colleagues and I deal with this on a daily basis, and most are agreed they would never want to end up in the same situation as many patients. The best that appears to be on offer (officially) is the DNAR order (do not attempt resuscitation) which was also responsible for one of the most harrowing deaths I have ever witnessed.

I can't see a solution any time soon as even doctors are unable to agree on the issue and lawyers would be rubbing their hands together.

A lot of sag might work with those. I had Junior T's @ 150mm on them and they seemed about right. I very nearly bought some ZZZYZX's on fleabay a couple of years ago with this frame in mind which would have looked wicked 8)

My 10 year old Supertankers which were originally black and are now almost light grey + some ancient XT SPD's which are so big I use them as flatties them on the 'pub' bike but are still smooth.

From what you've said I'm even more tempted to build it up. I've got some Nixons @140mm which should be spot on + Hayes 200mm discs. What are you using for a rear brake ?

I'll let you know if I get round to building it up again.

Ooooh ! Just seen on MTBR that a Hayes 8" fits – might build it up for a laugh as I think I've still got the original XTR chainset and MRP? chaincage

It's a Trek Pro Issue DH from '99. I've only ridden it for about an hour 10 years ago as I couldn't get a rear brake to fit and I just never got around to building it up properly. Apparently it was designed for a Hope C2 with a specific adaptor !

It felt very plush – 8" rear travel and originally had a Boxer 125mm which was the bollox at the time.

It's definitely indestructable (swing arm alone must weigh 10-12 lbs). One day I'll rebuild 'The Ugliest Bike in the World'

there's not many dh bikes that don't look ugly!

If you buy a bike because it looks 'cool' you're a tart. Bike are meant to be ridden. And for DH bikes it's function before form in any cases.

    Ahem !

…..and yes, I have one in my garage

Change for the sake of it eg. bb/crank interfaces + needing different tools for different manufacturers.

Myriad seatpost diameters – surely 2 is enough. This also applies to bars/stem/steerers.

Crown races that don't fit onto the crown (I've had to ream the last 3)

Not having a garden hose or electricity in my garage

Lorraine Kelly + even worse that lump McManus who won Pop Idol years ago and appears on a morning talk show on ?STV. I'll also add Jeremy Kyle for giving airtime to above chav scum.
