rickmeister – did you actually gain mpg at all as I'm trying to justify that it really is worth it not just purely for performance gain. My petrol 2.0 zetec only appears to gain 10bhp and possibly 10% on fuel. Looking at THESE GUYS

Ah! I was looking along the lines of fish farming, diver training……

Of course it's acceptable and expected. If Hora didn't set himself up as the resident forum masochist he would probably have to go elsewhere for a damn good slapping.

CF was highly amusing and far more vindictive than here and he appeared to love it.

He is IMHO a self centred, self-obsessed, self-promoting dickhead who will undoubtedly have to rush to the toilet after reading this

They have an altogether different use for worked out quarries.

    I'm lost – google isn't any help either ????

I think you may be right re lost fun. Looking at the vid reminded me that I used to go just go out and ride my bike without too much thought. Now it's all the gear (no idea in my case) spd's, 3/4 baggies etc.etc. All seems a bit like you have to ride with a purpose instead of JRA. Mind you, some of those jeans in the vids looked seriously nutcrackingly tight 8O

Her eldest sister is a Midwife, working in the same hospital and accessed bro's notes.

I think she would be in deep doodoo if that was the subject of a complaint, especially since Caldicott is rammed down the neck of every NHS employee all the time.

I will seriously consider opting out but could that not also be misconstrued that you probably have something to hide ? You can't win.

McMoonter – not me I'm afraid, only really started cycling/mtb in early '90's.

Scotia – yes but probably older than you. Left Cults Academy in 1976. You from there too?

Woody – do I know you?

Not unless you're originally from Aberdeen/Cults way and I'm in Durham now. I got Fife from your profile as I thought you had to be American! Nearest I've been to Mt Tam is a ride round Cape Cod :?

That's a long way from Fife McMoonter. Fantastic piece of history

Brings me back to whem the first americans came to Aberdeen in the late 70's/early 80's and a couple of their kids had clunkers with coaster brakes. We used to race them round the woods at the back of my folks house. Happy days

and they noticed a 3ft long knife on the back seat.

Isn't that more commonly known as a sword 8O

    Woody

Seems to be ok as long as you have a leitimate reason for having the knife/tool. On a slightly different note I was rather dismayed/embarrassed to find a plastic Skean Dhu included in the finery last time I hired a kilt!

Quite amusing debate about this re National dress, and weapons carried as part of, in the House of Commons HERE

I particularly liked …A schoolteacher would not be especially well thought of if he suddenly took to arriving at school and conducting lessons dressed in Lederhosen and wearing Dutch clogs, not necessarily together.

It was a CJ250. I had one and it really wasn't a bad bike. Handling was pretty good but lost out to RD's etc on acceleration. Took mine to IOM in '77 and had the honour of being overtaken, as if I was standing still, by Mick Grant who was having a practise lap 8O

Sounds like money well spent. £125 is nothing if it sorts out your knee problem and gives you a couple of extra gears on the ups?

Out of interest, how much did you have to drop your saddle? I've always worked on the principle of 'heel resting flat on the pedal'. Is that still about right as long as your crank length is correct?

    Donk +1

it's get what you have now (you can see it right in front of you)

That's fine until you get keen enough to build up a frame from scratch and anyway, shouldn't encouragement be given regardless! Let's face it, anything is better than another 'what tyre for…." thread

Having said that, a godd natured piss take is always welcome

…….. the answer to the above for example, is measure them…

But isn't that part of the problem? Take f/r mechs for example, top swing/bottom pull/conventional, rapid rise, long or medium cage etc etc. and then compatibility issues does SRAM work with Shimano 9 speed with 8 speed or soon 10 speed?

All very easy when you have been around bikes for a while but fairly bewildering to a newbie.

Those were shot on a D50 and D3000, with Sigma lenses.

Wish I could justify getting either one of those but the pics make it worth every penny

Did I say it was trivial ?

    As you asked…..

……There is one heinous crime on your list which stands out and is irrefutably at #1, the perpetrators of which should feel the full force of the law and remain outcasts from society for eternity. I feel dirty and somehow sullied even typing the letters – wearing a full face helmet with lycra <spits>

Couldn't give a monkeys about the rest so can't be bothered sorting them.

    Would "no blacks" be acceptable?

Depends if they were gay or not.

Seriously though, there are far more important things in the world than a homophobic landlady. The BBC is showing it on the news now. I would be fascinated to see what happens to her bookings for the summer.

Brother and sister. I picked the biggest bitch (story of my life  ) and second smallest dog and they match pretty well.

They were 'interesting' to train and it distressed them so much to be separated that I had to persevere with them together. Took much longer than a one-to-one but now, one usually obeys and the other follows. Strangely, either can be the obedient one at any given time.

You'll have to explain to me how a B&B is completely different to a hotel

A B&B is someones home as well as being a commercial enterprise and is not a public place like a hotel. While I do not agree with the the owner I believe it is her right to choose who she rents a room to.

Back now – still building up distance with them following the bike. They were knackered enough after a few miles to rest and let me get a couple of pics

Aren't we so absorbed with the rights of gay people/minorities that we forget that others have rights too. For whatever reason, this women did not want gay males sharing a room as guests in her house. Surely it is her right to make that choice ? We are not talking about a hotel or a public bus service here, which is an entirely different scenario.

And before the STW lib police have a go, I personally wouldn't be bothered, or even give it a second thought. The point I am trying to make is that the guest house owner also has rights/beliefs which should be given equal respect.

ps. I don't believe for 1 second that the 2 had never experienced homophobia (have they been living in a cave, or should that be closet, until recently?) but I guess it made the story more sensational.

Sounds like you really don't have much idea about dogs so please please get advice from a vet before you decide anything as there are lots of different considerations to take into account eg. do you have a garden, how big is the house, have you considered the cost, are you aware how much mess they make with hairs, muddy paws etc., what about the dog when you go away on holiday or for the weekend ?

Rescue places such as Dogs Trust will also be able to give you good advice.

Despite all I've said above, I wouldn't be without my mutts and once you choose one it is most definitely part of the family. Oh, and whatever you get will need exercised 7 days a week and once a day as a very minimum, even small breeds.

My 2 'boring labs' at about 4 months, nearly 4 years old now and NOT fat. They are also about to come out with me on the bike so I'll try and post another pic to confirm you will not need to give up your cheeky daytime rides :D

I share my 2 dogs with the ex and the most they are left alone is 6 hours and that is rare. It makes a huge difference having 2, as even a few hours is a long time for a dog and they keep each other company. In addition, they give each other loads of exercise chasing around off the lead, far more than I could offer even walking for hours a day. I am not suggesting you get another dog as it may compound the situation, but it might be worth discussing with the professionals you are talking to. I don't think you are in the N.East but if you are I could recommend someone who is excellent.

Mr Smith has a point (although I would not punch a dog) in that a dog is a pack animal and has to learn/accept what is right and wrong according to the pack leader. I have used the 'pin to the floor growling' method to good effect but that is only valid when it is a direct challenge to the owner and not in the case where the dog has other issues.

I really hope it goes well for you and the 3 days at work will make a difference. Good luck.

Some women seem to have no problem with the 'stand up wee' around these parts if the circumstances are right ie. exit club after gallon of WKD, hit cold air, long taxi cue, realise ambulance will provide handy cover from said cue, hitch skirt (often not required due to lack of length), slight bend of knee, sorted ! Usually then followed by a wave and "can you give us a lift to…."pick anywhere near Durham"!!!

You thought wrong. There is no way I would have left an injured animal and the fact that a lady managed to cover it tells me all I need to know ie. you are a complete woos.

Actually, I seriously doubt the incident happened at all and you merely thought it would be interesting to post yet more bullshit !

    Woody

So, both you and your colleagues left an 'obviously injured' dog to wander around for 2 hours. What happened then ? Did it roll over and die peacefully thus allowing you to stop fretting and carry on with your fulltime forum posting job?

Christ knows how you ever find the time pursue your hobby ie. placing people
