I think the general unpopularity internationally of England and the english football team, stems from the fact that England are very bad winners!

Hard to put into words but……. while most teams are happy to have won the game and have some empathy with the losers, when England win it seems to be more about beating the opposition and demonstrating that they are indeed superior. That probably doesn't make a lot of sense to some but non-english might know what I mean.

Wish that was a bit longer but impressive getting as much amplitude as boarders. I loved the 'wall run' @ 1:14 – has that got a name ?

    Why bother about the cost?

Probably because I don't earn very much and I haven't won the lottery yet 😉

On a similar note…….gravity droppers/speedball. Hardly new technology or much R&D gone into those and yet you can buy a whole office chair for a fraction of the price 🙄

Amazing. Thought the collective would shoot me down in flames.

They would have if you'd posted in the right forum 😆

And no, he's not funny, or even vaguely amusing.

Just had a chat with her and her friend has the Berghaus. She liked the colour and padding but didn't occur to her to try it on before her friend left for Rio 🙄 The Bioflex is nice but a bit pricey.

If it was for myself, I would probably have one of THESE but then I'm not a 22 year old girl !

Is she actually trekking, or just travelling?

TBH I'm not sure but I suspect it will be very much travel orientated as she is meeting up with various people who are already there. I would much prefer her to have travelled with her mates or boyfriend so I'm not exactly overjoyed at the prospect of her being on her own at times.

Serious discussions will be had prior to departure !

    Thanks for all the info.

Looks like a trip to Blacks (they have a sale on at the moment) at the end of the month when she gets home.

THIS looks pretty good but isn't in the sale 🙄

What sort of weight are we talking about at 80ltrs?

She is fit but not a very large build and I should have mentioned she will be staying in youth hostels/cheap hotels so camping gear will not be carried.

LOL. I wonder if Madonna will see the funny side? I suspect not 😆

There is something quite intoxicating about Gaga. Fabulous body and a face that can go from stunning, to looking like a greyhound that's run into a brick wall.

    Crap song though.

Another vote here for Bettablast. Lovely job, which seems to be lasting very well.

I probably would regret not buying it

    There is your answer.

    and

    a) you can use it now
    b) you will actually save money compared to buying new in a few years time
c)you can never truly justify a bike on a 'cost per ride' basis so that part is irrelevant!

You can't plan everything and if you do buy it and regret it you can always sell it again, so you really don't have a valid reason for not buying it 😆

Well, I opened my personal ridicule tap and not even a drip came out.

Vorderman is cracking…..she's getting on you know 😉

Rachel is only 22 but dresses (on Countdown anyway) like a 40 year old hooker. I also suspect her legs are not very long as her arse is way too low and she wears enormous heels.

There…………now that I've put you all off, she's mine, all mine 8)

It is a difficult one. If you kids were much younger I wouldn't see a problem but they are all at a potentially difficult age. It's not a long time in the general frame of things and if you can get back on a fairly regular basis (and have them visit?) then it's not too bad.

At least nowadays you can stay in regular touch on t'internet and will still be able to have regular input in their lives.

If it means being financially 'secure' and covering uni costs (it's a bloody fortune, I've just done it) then it may well be more beneficial to them in the long term. As b1galus says, many fathers spend a huge amount of time away and it works out very well.

    Good luck

    Bit of a fail then?

Why? Are they not legitimate reasons for having a firearm?

    Woody

Given your criteria for owning one on the previous page I think your logic is flawed.

I didn't give a criteria. I responded to a post questioning "Why in any sane world do these people need to own shotguns? " citing a few examples of a legitimate 'need'.

You have a say do you? Are you head of a government consultative committee on firearms by any chance and your IT Manager job in profile is just a front for your 'real' job? If not, and you are simply referring to the fact that you live in a democracy and have a vote, then………. 😆 🙄

I disagree, it gets to the heart of how we should implement a practical solution, ban them. I am not offering alternatives.

Fortunately you don't have any real say in the matter. You obviously have no need for a gun being the mighty keyboard warrior that you are in the confines of your comfy office. Others have a very legitimate need for one, whether you like it or not 🙄

My first foray into bmx on my daughters boyfriends bike ended with me nutting the gate on the drive. Never occurred to me to check if it had any brakes 😆

**** me, shotguns in biathlons! Whatever next!

MG – only a sad pedant would pick that up given the context of the discussion. AFAIK it is a possibility that a shotgun AND a rifle was used. Go and occupy yourself by checking for spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. 🙄

So if nobody could reach out to this killer, what does that say about our society?

From interviews with people who 'knew him' it seems he gave no indication that any reaching out was required.

shotguns are quintesentially Tory weapons, used by farmers and other rich landowners.

That gets the prize for the most ridiculous statement of the day 🙄

cbrsyd – just started something very similar to that. Carbs do seem to be the hunger trigger and it's good to know that it worked for you and your mates.

All I need to do now is get over the 1st few days of 'metabolic re-alignment' 😯

Thanks for all the input – jerky and Powerbars/drink are a good idea but bananas and fruit generally are limited initially due to sugar content.

Obi_Twa – you are right re eat less calories than you use = weight loss..

….however…….the theory behind the plan questions modern eating habits, particularly the amount of carbohydrates consumed and the reasons behind it. There is way to much to go into here but there is some very interesting stuff on food producers/production and politically motivated health recommendations both in UK and from the Surgeon General. The huge rise in obesity and diabetes can be (partly at least) attributed to this relatively recent increase in the carb content of our diets. The physiology behind the plan seems very sound and long term health, for me at least, warrant giving it a try.

The shakes are a possibility as long as the carbs are low. Problem with most bars is that they tend to have nuts/seeds, some bad fats and sugar to make them more palatable.

I'm trying to lose some weight and the theory behind the programme is plenty protein and veg, low carbs/fats, and the tricky bit, especially when I'm at work, is to eat at least every 2-3 hours. It all seems very logical and in a nutshell revolves around making the body use fat as an the energy source rather than storing it, and also naturally speeds up the metabolism. Bizarrely, you are not allowed to do any strenuous exercise in the 1st 4 weeks as this will have a detrimental effect on the muscle/fat storage/metabolisation equation, which unfortunately means my assault on the UK race scene will have to wait 😆

They look tasty jonb but quite high in carbs, sugar and fat (good and bad).

Chicken legs are spot on but no use for carrying in my pocket!

Any more before I try the murky depths of bodybuilding forums ?

There is probably more than 20mm difference in axle to crown height between different forks manufacturers eg. my AM1's @ 130mm travel are 15mm longer axle to crown than my 145mm Nixons !

There is however no question that your Surly 1×1 will outlive you no matter what forks you use as they are indestructible. 😉

I'm using the Specsavers monthlies – i.e. leave them in for a month.

Me too and they are great as I work shifts and they are super comfy as you would expect from lenses designed to be left in for up to 30 days.

It's not recommended but I've been using the same pair since January. I do take them out to go to bed and put them in cleaning/sterilising solution however and I don't notice any deterioration from week one!
