I have an old Ixus myself and it's a good robust little camera and perfect for taking out on the bike.

I'm really tempted by the Sony W310 which PC World have a good deal on at the moment. £99 for a bundle incl. case and 4GB memory which looks hard to beat. Anyone got experience of it.

    Update.

Parker + 6 feather blades received from Ebay this morning for <£20. Started shaving at 1725, made cup of coffee amd it's now 1735.

All I can say is…….what is all the fuss about?

Slapped on a bit of Gillette shaving foam from a can and shaved taking it easy initially then up to same speed as normal. Very smooth, closer than the '3-5 blade super duper modern technology magabucks throw-away models' and cheaper in the long run.

    I'm converted

You take innertubes to a shop to get fixed !!

I'm surprised you aren't wearing the whole packet of biscuits as a buttplug 😯 😆 🙄

Lower tyre pressures giving better grip is just a myth.

    No it isn't.

Don't agree with the low pressure/better grip idea. There is an optimum pressure band which can be adjusted for suspended weight. Either side of that will cause either a reduction in grip due to decreased contact area or a reduction in grip caused by tyre deformity.

Michelin do not produce charts like the one linked for fun. They want their tyres to perform at the optimum level. The importance of this is increased due to knobbly tyres giving dven less contact than say slicks.

Bugger! I'm going to have to get one now I've thought about it.

I don't want to spend a lot as my dad has a couple which I can nick next time I visit, one of which is a nice Gillette apparently. So……

I've had a look on Ebay – see below. Other online recommendations please under £20

On Youtube. There is one guy showing different shaving techniques FFS.

Have a look at THIS (10 minute shave) where the guy thinks 10 minutes is quick and says it can take up to 45 minutes 😯

How long for a back, sack and crack?

I don't see how one blade can shave closer than 3 or 5.

I'm sure these guys tested the product extensively before they agreed to endorse it. After all, they don't need the money!

Assuming it a standard hub/cassette eg. not 8 speed cassette on a 9 speed hub just tighten it until it stops klunking and is 'snugly tight'. You won't be anywhere near the pawls.

Just remember, you will probably have to get it off at some point too!

As above, it should go down with time. A mate of mine landed on a stump at soem speed, left from clearing some bushes at Penshurst (at the bottom of the steep hill near start of original course) and had a lump for a few months.

When it happened I thought he had impaled himself. Luckily I managed to compose myself and kept on filming. Well, he wasn't moving or going anywhere fast, so it seemed the right thing to do 😆

Link? If he is selling an £800 bike there is a reasonable chance someone on here might know him (or her), or even the bike.

Difficult as you have bid and won but I wouldn't be sending any money (especially that much) if he won't give contact details.

LOL! I'll be heading towards Quebec from my house outside Durham later this morning. If I'm feeling fit I can also take in Toronto and Washington and still be home for Sunday dinner 😉

The SA axle I have is 135mm but thanks anyway. Sheldon always has the answer, I like his 'plank of wood' tool but I think Epicyclo's car jack method will give more control.

All ready to go as soon as I get the DUC's. I thought about fitting a pair of Nixons but decided to wait and get the cabling spot-on, which is unusual for me as I tend to throw anything onto frames just to get a feel for how it rides.

Can't wait to get out on it. 😆

I'm with DezB on this one – got mine from Lidl for £3.99 with 3 lenses ie. dark, yellow and clear. Look ok, light and do a good job of deflecting wind and small beasties.

I also have a couple of pairs of THESE which are fantastic and I only use in car or snow as I couldn't justify replacing them. Aluminium means they rarely steam up and the lenses are made by Gentex (or at least they used to be).

Had a look at the CV website and it looks good. Pic below shows how much the vid flattens the trail and how much hard work has gone into building it.

That looks nice and flowing, if a little 'motorway' but that's probably the just the camera. I'm sure it's fun when you are actually there but it seems a shame to have cut what looks like a huge gap through the trees rather than integrating them into the trail. To get some perspective, what sort of speed were you travelling at?

Are there other trails through the trees?

Just finished my third large mug today (got up at 7 it's now 1020). Probably averages out at 8-10 large mugs a day – 99% instant as I usually don't have time or can't be bothered with the hassle/mess it takes to do a 'proper' one + if I would drink waaaay too much if I had a pot of filter or cafetiere on the go.

Yhanks for all the replies. There is a framebuilder not too far from me so if necessary I can go there.

Maths was never my strong point but 7.5mm either side can't be more than a few degrees difference (assuming they were spot-on in the first place) and it'll be bolted up anyway………if they are too far out to bolt up, I have a big hammer 😉

Wow – 5 days before you checked out a broken collar bone, that's core !!

It took me 6 hours to realise (my own fault, cycling home rat-arsed) – 2 mile walk home after crash, then 4 hours sleep before the errr 'anaesthetic' wore off and I looked in a mirror 😯

Good idea. Do you have to take it a few mm wider as presumably there is a 'memory'?

Alternatively, if the drop-outs were spread enough by hand to get the back wheel in, wouldn't the effect be the same over time?

    Woody
    Free Member

Just bend it and straighten the dropouts

I like that idea – it's not like it's a high tech ultra thin tubing, is it !

KS – you are right re changing axle/hub but it's extra hassle and expense. I've done it on the Pomp the other way round ie. a 120mm axle into a 135mm frame without a problem. It's only 7.5mm each side so I wouldn't think it will affect wheel alignment at all and brake alignment very little.

I'm more concerned about weakening welds rather than the 4130 but as I'm not an engineer it would be good to have some qualified opinions on tolerances.

Apparently I can stay awake during the op if I like. Has anyone here been through an op awake?

Hmmmmm ! I would have to think very carefully about that having been in theatre and seen the orthopaedic surgeons perform. Delicate and gentle are not words which spring readily to mind. On the other hand, if you have the option and aren't too squeamish (and don't mind seeing bits of your own bone flying around while being sawn, chiselled, hammered and drilled) then I think it would be very interesting.

They might even give you a running commentary ! 😉

just seeking some understanding of how someone from the far side of the world might be a fan of his 50-odd years after his death.

    Robert Burns in Russia
    Norman Wisdom in Albania
David Hasselhof in Germany (ok he's still alive, I think)

…..and you expect an answer on a cycling web site that will allow you to understand these things……

I think it is a great idea for trail centres but it doesn't go nearly far enough.

What we need is a system of ropes and safety harnesses so that when a potentially dangerous section is reached, riders can hook onto the rope and if they fall they could be saved from a nasty injury. It would enable entire families to go down 'blacks'. Dad or indeed Mum, can show how rad they are by descending 'unhooked' safe in the knowledge that their offspring can follow in total safety. Less confident riders could also try a dodgy section fearlessly, safe in the knowledge that the worst that can happen is bruised genitalia from an improperly positioned harness.

Alternatively, why not save money on those expensive mtb's and simply tour the theme parks for a thrill. You will get plenty exercise walking from ride to ride and have none of those creepy crawlies to deal with or be surprised by a rock which someone thoughlessly forgot to remove from the trail when it was carved over the last few centuries. You will also be able to graze on a variety of 'proper' food from the many fast food establishments dotted around thus negating the need to carry cumbersome backpacks.

    There, all sorted 😉

Do you think the figures are any different in England, Wales or Ireland?

I for one won't be cheering on Englands opponents. That would involve watching football on the tele 🙄
