It’s just last time I tried to return something the ebay system was terrible, didn’t accept that I’d returned it and the seller claimed never to have received it despite my tracking suggesting differently and that was that. I stared a return but that seems to take ages since the seller doesn’t accept returns.

Don’t forget the 11 speed Sram will have a different freehub and will lock you into Sram 11 speed cassettes (currently pretty pricey if you do a lot of miles)

How did you manage to bend that?

That’s how I got them. Seller says they were fine for him, honest mate!

    think i found my problem!

So CRC has Pro in 26 or Expert in 27.5, but I’m surprised they’re different on the damper side. Perhaps I should order both since I don’t have time to wait around with no bike.

Thanks, but I need to service/replace the damper, since it’s hitting a dead end at around 100mm and the oil on that side was gritty.

    Thanks, dropped them a message.

On another note, I may need a new damper assembly. Does anyone know if 26″ and 2.75 ones are the same?

I have a tracking number now so hopefully it’ll be here for the weekend.

Now I just have to hope my alignment method is up to scratch.

I’m sure it’ll be great when it’s here. but I’m worried I’ll have turned into a roadie by the time that happens. If they’d given a realistic timescale I’d have bought a cheapy and kept it for spares. Instead it’s sunny out and my MTB is just a collection of parts.

Go in the middle with a lovely Mattoc Pro? They’re ace.

That looks spot on! A really nice build.

Personally I thought my Ashima rotors were garbage and ice-tech ones were decent, so i’d go for it.

If you’ve been given them, then why not try them out and if you don’t like them simply swap back.

I think £650 is achievable given how few ended up existing compared with demand. I still want one, but having just bought a frame I’m sadly all out of cash.

Me too on a set of XTs, we don’t have long though!

It’s hard to tell the age of that Nicolai and therefore knowing nothing of geometry and parts compatibility even as a keen MTBer it is too much of a risk to bid proper money on. I’ve actually been surprised at the numbers 26″ FS frames have been making with pretty old kit making good money.

And longer travel, straight steerer 26″ forks are doing really well.

VEry nice! Not so sure about that Adamo though!

I think you’re best off going with a 34 and accepting that you’ll spin out on the road, but it’s not a big deal and that’s not what the bike is built for. I had a 36 for a while and having a 1:1 lowest gear was pretty hard going at times.

You expected her to be bowled over with the opportunity to get a bike with a Fox fork and SLX gears and she expected not to spend £400 on something built from bits found in the shed. And you were both disappointed.

Don’t be too hurt by her initial reaction. She’ll go off to a shop where they’ll tell her it’s ace (hopefully) and then you can both be happy.

Seems like a great deal! Any info on weight or width? Can’t find much on them.

If it doesn’t get nicked, it’ll get beaten up by idiots with other bikes and you’ll be forever worried you’ll come out to a cut lock.

Get something unassuming with the minimum of logos and no parts you’d cry over if they broke/got nicked.

I fancy going up to 780, but 202g sounds mad. Is there any warnings about 3″ drops invalidating the warranty?

The day my crap full-sus was nicked. The list price of the replacement was comically high and the insurance offered me a deal on the last years Rockhopper with hydraulic discs for a cost of about £150. I cashed in my paper round savings and I felt like a king. A few days later my best mate got a Caldera with some Bombers and then I had to have a set.

A few years past and I went back to cheap and simple with a couple of retro builds and I had a lot of fun with no worries. Now here I am trying to destroy my bank balance building up a carbon 650b enduro weapon and buying 70 quid headsets.

Commencal do a few nice hardtails around that money. e.g

Idle pondering… How much cheaper would XTR/Apple/Other products be if all packaging was plain recycled brown with simply the part number and barcode printed on?

To some degree I an understand it on high street products that are all out on display on shelves, but most Shimano stuff only ever sees a store-room or warehouse!

Through the varied members of STW someone must be able to give us an idea of what %age of the packaging cost of products could be saved?

probably peanuts per product but over millions of units worldwide I bet it adds up to a lot of money.

It’s got a whole thread of recognition here. With Apple, the unfathomably popular unboxing videos would surely be fewer in number and less loved.

The marketing guys know their stuff and a few pence on additional wow factor keeps people feeling special and buying the high-end , big-margin kit.

I’ll probably have my Bos Deville 140 TRC up for sale soon-ish. 1 1/8 with a 20mm bolt through. Proper stiff, light and brilliant, but I could use something with a bit more travel.

Not an advert, just worth mentioning that it’s not uncommon to find Devilles with a straight steerer.

This is just how most subscriptions work. A nice incentive to actually sign-up and if I enjoy it, I’ll continue to subscribe.

Although if I get pink I definitely won’t.

Nice video! There’s a lot of money and effort in these and they do look ace, it’s just a lot of cash for a crank.

I commuted 6 miles each way on my Spooky Metalhead and it wasn’t an issue. It was nice riding something so simple and bombproof. Sometimes took the longer route along the sea front so it definitely didn’t put me off.

I’ve skipped a perfectly usable frame and wheels, when I realised as I was moving house that they wouldn’t fit in the car.

Is it not a 44mm headtube which currently has integrated cups, so by fitting an external lower cup you can then use a tapered fork?

    e.g http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/nukeproof-warhead-headset-bottom-cup/rp-prod124574

    The EX 44-40 B5 model

AllTricks have some bargain DT Swiss that would work lovely. You’d beed a new lower headset cup though for the tapered fork.
