SJS recommend BRAKE outer cables! I’ve always used gear inner with brake outer. I find XTR inners and std Shimano brake outer works best. In 3 1/2 years I think I replaced the cables three times maybe four. The muck gets in via the barrel locator for the cable outer on the shifter. I get around a year out of a set of cables, used twice a week off road.

I still find it a faff to do a cable change – not the nicest of jobs.

A bit of a double edged sword in my recent experience. Second sparklywarts first post.

Think I’ll try for a non-biking girlfriend this time around, good to have a bit of ‘me time’ doing each’s own interests from time to time.

Someone on here may well be taking over my duties!

It can work – I think.

I met someone on a dating site, we spent 18 months together, had a split a few weeks back and she’s back on a dating site – it’s f*cking killing me!

I know what you’re going through, as I’m currently going through something similar. It does feel as though there is no future, just try and keep positive, I know that’s easier said than done. Contact all of your mates, let them know, arrange as much as possible to keep yourself busy. It is going to take some time but you will feel better and be back to your old self again. Oh, and try not to do any thing hasty – take it easy.

    All the very best

I would recommend the Thorn, SJS cycles may still have some Enduro frames left, at half price! Lifetime warranty 853/725 rear triangle. I’ve had mine for three and a half years, as my main bike , really like it, it’s both strong and twangy as you’d expect from that tube combo.

You probably need it swept more regularly with a liner (metal flue) than a conventional (old – traditional) brick flue, because the diameter is so much smaller. The efficiency is greater with a liner but it is calculated on that small diameter flue – so sweep it regularly (twice a year if it supplies a water heating system).

Personally, I don’t like liners in old buildings, it causes condensation in the brick flue that it’s inserted into to. Great for new builds.

Well, after a couple of emails and some telephone calls, Hope have come stepped up to the plate and supplied me another headset, less Headoctor for the cost of replacing the lower bearing, which was all I wanted.

I am happy with the outcome, although I can’t help but think it would have saved me a lot of time and hassle to have gone for a King in the first place. Let’s hope this new generation headset provides years of service.

Ok, not trying to be controversial here but, I went and didn’t enjoy it. Expect to spend at least half the day’s riding climbing on tarmac. The descent’s were quite technical, tight almost trialsy and short compared to other places in Europe I’ve ridden. I didn’t think much of the accomadation, food and the place reeked of cats pee to be totally honest (pee was confined to litter trays to which there were numerous dotted about the place), and I like cats! I still found it overwhelming at times.

Landry is a tiny hamlet with a fairly substantial road running through it, right by the only bar, although there is a hotel which has a bar. Bourg St Maurice was pretty lifeless when we went.

Sorry, but that’s how I found it.

    Simon, ‘h’ as in saying the letter ‘h’ – a b c d e f g h etc. Pronounced ‘aitch’ and not ‘haitch’.

    We’re all pedantic here! ;0)

It’s now looking promising that Hope are going to help me on this. I’ll keep you posted as to the result, with a bit of good fortune tomorrow eve. So I’ll hang fire before contacting you @axroads for the moment, thanks for your help so far.

What have you started here Dez!;)

There are only two that I can think of, and they may have been already mentioned. One is schedule pronounced ‘skedule’ and the other is the letter ‘h’ pronounced with a hard ‘h’as in hat, if that makes any sense.

Australian soaps are to blame for ‘skedule’ IMO.

    Pete,

I’ll call you tomorrow late morning, it’s for the pre-2007 headset without the bevel on one side of the outer bearing race.

    Cheers

Apparently the bearings are no longer availabel according to Hope. It’s not even two years old what a waste of money!

If I take it off my bike send it to them with £35 they’ll send me another headset. I only want the lower bearing, I’d rather put that money towards the headset I should have bought rather than getting sentimental about buying British!

I don’t understand why cracks in Ti frames are so common. Everyone who I know that has owned Ti has cracked (half a dozen or so).

I did some research on internet of course, and there is nothing to suggest the mercury levels are in any way harmful.

How much have white filling material changed in 7-8 years if at all?
That’s the age of the one that needs to be replaced!
