stevo, is every riding day guided? The ‘free accompanied ridng’ sounds a little abiguous…

I bought their baggy shorts this year. They look and feel nice quality, with the important ykk zips on fly and pockets. Really cool in hot conditions with a good liner – £60 IRC.

Mate of mine has the shoes and rates them highly.

Dinner is in the evening isn’t it – I mean you wouldn’t say ‘I’m booking a table at a restaurant for tea’, would you!? Or I’m taking someone out for tea either – assuming you probably call evening meal ‘tea’ if it’s not dinner……

I can’t see how bike shops make a profit let alone a living. Having rented and paid business rates on a commercial property for 20 years, I feel for anyone trying to recover that, week in week out, year in year out selling and serviceing bikes. The hourly rate for bike repairs is just too low, you’d need to charge a minimum of £40.

Rob, dunno if I’ve read your post correctly, but I intend to ride today, my usual loop starting at the top of the dead end lane at Holmbury St Mary, where the scout type hut is – if you know it? Basically the lane by the side of the pub on the green, think it may be called the Crown – not 100% sure. I’m fairly easy on time, was thinking midday-ish? Shortish loop of couple of hours…

Take a little time out, you may be overdoing it, or stick to riding the non-achey bike as a process of elimination.

I ride Pitch a lot, one of my local areas. I must say on a personal level, it rarely looks good in the natural landscape, and I don’t much like riding the stuff, or anything too man made for that matter.

[he say’s hypocritically – off to Afan for the weekend!]

I’m sure I read somewhere that nettle stings are good for relieving joint pains…..

I don’t mind a light nettling – not too keen on ‘fizzy’ legs when trying to sleep though..

    [opens a can of worms]

I’d probably take the hardtail, I did it in 07 on a Rohloff’d steel framed bike, must be 30lb.

You can get a beer at Devils Dyke, 65 miles in or thereabouts, Alfriston – you’ll be riding through the village, quite a few pubs and a delli/snack shop if it’s open/you get there in good time. There must be more, that’s all that springs to mind right now though. Good luck!

Medication is not always the answer, rarely is. Offer support, don’t sufforcate as already said. Suggest some reading, self help books, NLP, all available at your local bookstore. 1 in 5 people will suffer depression in some form or another, be it work related, bereavement, relationship breakup, family problems etc, most pass through this naturally without drug intervention.

If she’s stressed maybe you’ll see her old self again when the exams are over.

In a nutshell, don’t take anyones advice on your own relationship, especially so on a forum – only you know what is right for the both of you.

Don’t dye your hair – that is silly, and you’ll look a vain **** in the process!

Tight trousers, not very wise for the older gentleman.

Chasing women and buying expensive bikes, sorry, isn’t that just normal anyway…………….

If I understand it rightly, isn’t Christs Hospital known for taking on bright pupils from troubled backgrounds, who’s parents can’t afford to send them to public school – or who’s parents aren’t around!?

I know someone with a Trek WSD 09 hardtail, she is 5’2″ and rides the 15.5, she is probably inbetween sizes, the 15.5 is still a good fit for her. Don’t know if that helps…my twopenneth.

‘huge hawthorne’ is there such a thing. Hawthorn being a small tree! Prune it correctly, ask your neighbour if he minds if you do it….can’t see what damage a small tree like a Hawthorn can do at the end of a garden?

    Pics?

Cut the branches close to the trunk, not part sticking out – so that it looks like something you could walk up!

You mention Horsham [waves] it’s not at all bad here. Pitch/Leith Hill and the South Downs are a 20 min drive depending on which part of the South Downs of course. There is some local riding too, enough for an evening blast.

Haven’t been to Croydon for over 20 years! It’s got to be 20-25 miles away..

Have a read on WMB last month, there was a feature on womens bikes, I know someone with the Trek as featured, it’s a capable little bike and very light. They go down to 14″ IRC. Evans are now stocking them I’ve just noticed £999

Interesting comments Farticus, but I don’t bother myself too much with ‘bob’ concern when standing on the pedals, it’s a full suss bike, if you stand then it’ll move – is the way I look at it. I don’t bother with fork lockout either. Mine is set up not so xc, so none of that bothers me. I wouldn’t mind a good coil over shock for it sometime though.

I’ve still not ridden the trails at QE Park, despite having ridden through – even stopping off for a bite to eat there, whilst on a self flagellating STW excursion!

Worth putting a ride together there Dez?

Farticus, could you really tell the difference between the DHX air and RP23? I’ve got the DHX air on my 05 hl spot, and it feels great, more so the harder I ride it, it’s super absorbant on jump landings – just comes into it’s own. I’ve not had any stuck down problems, so maybe I’ve got a good one!

I have a Rohloff on my hardtail, and I love that too, so maybe we just have different tastes.

Back to the poster’s original question – I would do it, keep the spot.

Fantastic area, I loved it there in general. The biking is low-ish on singletrack compared with the Alps, I went with Skedaddle. They really look after you, great accomodation and food. The riding is a little on the tame side to be honest but, overall one of the best trips I’ve been on – depends what you want I guess. I did the trans-picos trip btw.
