I stayed at a nice place in the centre, when I did it a few years ago. I'll have a look back through my emails see if I can find the details.

I'm quite used to the cylinder head torque sequence so, no that's not to blame. I'll post up a pic soon, once I've hosted it etc. Cracked in the middle, lateral, same on my other bike, also crack in the steerer clamp too (microscopic) same as a mates. Think I've been riding with it like that for ages. Only reason checked, was that I jumped a couple of flights of concrete steps after a eve ride, and something didn't feel quite right after – not as hardcore as it sounds, honest!

Only the three of us…..checked a mates yesterday, and unbeknown to him his had a crack too!

Think they are great products, just not as fit and forget as we may imagine, plus CRC must stock those little bits for a reason……….

Interesting – just borrowed a torque wrench and I was surprisingly close to the 5.5Nm recommended, if anything a fraction under…..the mind boggles, but as already said at under eight quid I won't be losing any sleep over it. More of a safety concern.

There's some sweet singletrack at Puttenham, rideable from G'ford. There's some dh runs at Newlands corner apparently, then as mentioned, Surrey hills, or tunnel hill area, even the tourist (don't flame me folks) hot spot of Bracknell (Swinley)!

Controversial Kenny, but good to see things from another angle. I agree, would find that frustrating knowing there is so much other riding to be had.

Ridethelakes – your first pic is great!

I'll look out for those, when you have time richc

Interesting – plan to go out to Spain in winter so the heat wouldn’t be an issue. I did get the impression that the riding wasn’t say, like Ciclomontana, whom I’ve been out with twice before. I don’t necessarilly need ‘bonkers mountain biking’ but, I would like to be challenged from time to time.

Any links to your holiday pics guys?

    Great pics as usual.

Most Women do have an unusual, almost child-like posture when riding bikes, is my observation………………….

Start by thinking how much water you may want to carry. Mule – 3 litres, plenty, and plenty of stowage for an all day ride. The smaller one’s obviously carry less water/gear. Go for the Mule, not too big for short rides but adequate for long rides – or another brand of similar capacity.

How much are the King one’s, I’d be dissapointed if I received a Hope set – not in the same league/cache IMO. How about something merino….

I had a load of grief trying to get bearings for my old MK1 Hope headset, in the end Hope reluctantly traded my old for a new plus a fee (cost of the old bearings). I fitted that, thought it was pants, and luckily a friend was getting shot of a CK headset, I now have that – happy days!

I’d rather have the second hand 5spot than anything mentioned above. Of course I’m not a women or your wife, so guess it’s her opinion that matters and not a bunch of bike obsessed geeks – like us!

I have taken them in the past, and carry some in my back pack. I’ve only used them when really needed (sore shoulder or lower back), seem to work well with no noticable side affects. Keep hydrated of course.

glenp, do you have any details for the instructor course based at the Surrey Hills? I’ve been thinking about doing something like that for some time, and that’s practically on my doorstep. 🙂

Peaslake bus shelter, look straight up the road from inside it, BKB ending in on the left after the last house. Work out how to get to the top for yourself, couple of obvious options.

Keep everything simple but don’t skimp on anything! No frilly things or horsebrasses. Good, clean simple bedding, a good sized bath and a wholesome breakfast – not just the stock greasy fry up. Tasty eggs, not pre-sliced bread, thick you’ve cut it yourself toast etc, and plenty of it.

Open fire, secure bike storage and a hose.

The Old Parsonage at Over Stowey has to be one of the nicest B&B’s I’ve stayed in, in fact the only one that I consider good enough to return.

It’s probably all been said, but just to reiterate, try not to over do the begining as I once did, the climbs get more difficult the further east you travel.

Conditions were good when I rode yesterday – enjoy!

Eat oily fish, have plenty of sex, and ride when you want to, not because you feel you ought to.

May not work for everyone, but it’s worth a try………. 😉

PS: I don’t sleep that well after a winter night ride, when I close my eyes, I see trees wizzing past!
