scu98rkr – that's the point maintenance will be carried out by volunteers not where the fees are going – CTC.

Have your say wwaswas – we would for you if there's a problem your neck of the woods, I ride your area at least once a week. The CTC said they were approaching private landowners where trail building were evident, to take over the managing of it (advise only) and the third party insurance aspect. Prevention is better than cure!

They said to me that 'peer pressure' usually works. In other words the local DH guys will ASK(!) you for your permit I guess.

The CTC are comimng onto the thread Zukemonster linked to end of the week,to answer questions/explain things. There is still time to influence things, so if you have an opinion either way, or a question, then register and make your voice heard – please before it's too late!

There aren't ANY trails in there at the moment due to forestry work. In the dry I could ride everything I know in there in 50mins ok, that's going at a brisk pace – I wouldn't pay £6 per visit for that personally. It's public access land, it is owned by the government/tax funded FC, they will provide no trails, no materials no nothing, just the right to carry on. The reason the costs are so high is the affiliation to the CTC and their fixed membership charges – they will not build new singletrack, provide materials either. There will be resurfacing of a Sustrans track to link the town, that already exists, but that I believe has seperate funding.

They are going to need a lot of people/volunteers to create their £6 per day McTrails – I for one will be riding 'wild' as the CTC phrase non-inspected/waymarked/sanitised singletrack.

As a business owner myself I see it as primarily,; cost of premises and the 50% tax that has to be paid on that premises cost, per annum in the form of business rates – like your council tax but rated on almost half the rental value of your property, to be paid each year. Secondly, lifestyle changes; there is much more to entertain us in our after work time, the internet mainly, choice of what to watch on tv and of course, metrosexual men helping out more in the home. There is the cost as well, which is linked to my first point.

I'm sure there are many other reasons too.

PS: where I live, when a pub goes, a developer crams in as many flats onto the site, again linked to property prices, supply and demand.

I'll be watching these with interest, the external BB means that I don't have to faff around with different bb axle lenths to get the chainline for my Rohloff. I really wouldn't go Shimano after the cracks that appear in all the slx chainsets I've looked at.

I like the idea of fitting a CK bb too.

Obviously affording those two options is another matter – a wish list more like it! 🙂

That was taken on it's first ride! I've had no problem with the DHX air, no stuck down issues or anything. It rides well, has a definate platform that dissapears when the going gets rough! I wanted a coil, but that was the last HL in the country in medium that I could find – Jan 06.

Si, I've been riding the area on a Sat lately – lunchtime/early afternoon start, you're all more than welcome to join me sometime. I think I may be otherwise hungover this Sat though! (I wouldn't neccessarilly do those sort of trails with a B'mtb Sunday group though).

Thanks for the invite tomorrow – don't think I can make it though. 🙂

Drop me an email when you're all up that way on a Sat next. (addy in profile)

Donny Darko – north east of the tower, been there for ages, a jump off a stump and a series of gap jumps, or singletrack. You can roll DD no probs and do the singletrack, if hucking ain't your thang.

Fave/best trail – I can't tell you, it's the way it is now unfortunately. [don't know if I actually have ONE tbh]

I couldn't imagine running whilst going through that sort of pain – each to their own.

The disc shrinks back enough over time, to relieve the pressure on the sciatic nerve, although it will never be as good as it was pre-problems, and possibly a weakness will remain. Also, the nerve can become 'tethered' as a result and some symptoms remain. According to my doctors.

Take it easy and re-evaluate the running IMO. Stretch the glutes to eliminate pireformis (sp) syndrone – where the path of the sciatic nerve travels a slightly unusual path, through the glute muscles.

    Grant,

The sciatic pain was severe, it did fade with time, a matter of weeks, 6 plus from memory before any noticable decrease, and gradually decreased over six to twelve months from there. Now I have some discomfort from time to time, but not pain. I can normally alleviate this with glute and hamstring stretching – lightly! I still get some sensation – tingling in foot, but it's not even a discomfort now.

I did ride probably too soon, but lightly and I remember it did antagonise things, but the pain was so sevre I couldn't really over do it.

It will get better, it may not seem it now but, in a matter of months you will be riding again, and your body will regulate what you can do. I feel as strong as ever now, I hope that is some encouragement for you!

I found just a general back massage by a partner was just as effective/therapeutic as a physio.

Oh, I had some muscle relaxing drugs when things were acute, they help a little – can't remember what they were though.

You will ge there, all the best.

I wouldn't like to recommend a particular car, but have a look here in my galleries to whet your appetite. http://www.peterflynnclassiccars.com

PS: you need to be good with the spanners to keep any car of that age running

I went out with Ciclomontana in July one year – the riding was ok, but time off the bike including sleeping was pretty horrendous.

I quite fancy going out again in spring this year…………….

I've looked into vans, and it's a bloody nightmare trying to find anything looked after. I'm going to continue with a car, it's served me well so far for bike/work duties. Vectra – cheap and reliable!

I've had three pairs of vanilla's – they are the best fork I've owned. The first two did wear out, stantion anodising and bushes, three and a half years. I serviced them myself – new seals and oil, once IRC. I have a pair of 07 on my 5spot, it doesn't get used that much, haven't even changed the oil on them. I tip the fork upside down when I remember and keep the seals clean, I've also lifted the seals for a clean once.

They are a great fork, but something could be done on bush/stantion wear IMO. I think they put the bare minimum oil in them, to keep weight down – maybe an issue.

I've got some coil revs, a year old TF tuned as well, and I've noticed some scores/wear on the anodising there!

I went through this in 08, thought it was the worst debilitating pain I have ever experienced over a prolonged period. It did take months to get comfortable, and a year to feel real good. I still get some tingling in my foot/leg but no pain since recovery. My NHS physio was great, I think I struck lucky there.

I've had to change my lifestyle a wee bit, cut out anything silly (lifting heavy stuff etc). I still ride lots, and I'm as fit as I ever was, still go to the gym. You will get there but it is a slow process, it's worth taking it easy as the recovery, in my case has been very good, far better than I could have imagined at the time.

I'm not surprised it's a 'rare pleasure' for you – sounds quite teenage to me.

In answer to your question, No – either way!

The old Endura were good (general products) but anything I bought in the last three years has been shite – I won't buy the brand anymore.

I've got some Oakley baggies too, tough as a tough thing. They came with a liner which was awful, I cut that out and used my Swobo liner – fantastic. Worth it just for the outer shell. It must be getting on for 5 years and not a tear.

I've recently got into the Swobo brand – quality is second to none IMO.I bought a pair of the Minkman at the Stif sale £35.99 incl liner, I haven't used them yet but they do look and feel very well made. Worth checking out at that price! 🙂

I did my 'coil revs' silver two pack to match my powdered frame, as you can see I've 'chopper taped' the vulnerable bits – still look ok but some chips. As far as the MOD standards Two Pack – I can't see it being any harder, I would suspect it is more to do with the etch priming process, as most MOD stuf is Aluminium (requires more heavy duty etching before colour coats).

Those little Golden Cup bars, in foil were my fave though!

    Loved those too!

Coffee Walnut Whip, it ain't a bar though, more of a turd like cone, in dimension! Glad they don't make 'em anymore, my teeth couldn't handle all that sugary goo!

I don't really eat that sort of food as an adult, but I had a Mars the other month, I used to like Topic too, and Golden Cup as a kid (the little oval bars)!

I've been to Morzine and Les Arcs, there is a real mixture of riding. What would say the ride bias is, xc, free ride DH and climbing?

Savoyard food – found it a bit weird to be honest, I had Perch which I liked, and was the weirdest thing on the menu! , bread, cakes and local honey was all good…what do you recommend for a non red meat eater?

I agree with two pack for raod – it is designed for cars!

On the contrary, two pack is super shiny straight from the gun, but if you cover it in abrasive mud it will soon dull right off.

    woodsman

I use two pack in my work, with cars, and I would say that is no where near as durable as powder coating!

I wonder if they are using a different kind of two pack!

    Go powder
