Yeah, I remember the originals, they look well nasty through modern eyes 😀 Like the Giant Defy but this is a different animal with 35mm tyres and 1 x 11. To be fair don’t think the spec is too bad for a grand? As for selling it on, not so bothered as I tend to keep bikes until they are almost worthless anyway. Raleigh range is odd, all the MTBs look like supermarket specials but they also sell a 5 grand roadbike 😕

DT swiss skewer £27 😥 and bottom headset bearing… third replacement in a year 😥 😥

They are a special kind of Yorkshire up there, have to say some of the villages are full of mardy wierdos & duelling banjo types. Grassington is big enough to be not so bad in that regard.

Just broke a DT Swiss X12 rear skewer, as above can’t believe price for what is effectively just a big bolt 🙁

Funny that; I always thought school was mandatory, not reliant on how much flights to the sun were.

    No, it isn’t.

    Decathlon for the seatpack….

I think a lot of the early songs were about alienation, rebellion, urban decay, they had a kind of punk aesthetic, dontcha think? 🙂 Rather than satanism and all that occult bollocks that a lot of metal bands went for.

First album, no one sounded like them and they sounded like no one else. A great fusion of punk and metal.
Later on, IMHO, they became a bit too overblown and poodle haired.

I’ve still got a Genesis IOid and a Grapil and had an Equilibrium (that I wish I’d kept). Would have a Fortitude or Longitude if I could get away with it. I don’t think Whyte make an ugly bike either.

Lemonysam…plenty of raunchy skipping songs..even when I were a lad I heard the lasses singing “oo ah I lost my bra and left my knickers in my boyfriends car” and the tune was less bloody irritating than Candy 🙂

Another vote for Candy by Robbie Williams…sounds like an over produced, little girl’s skipping song

Live within a few hundred yards of Steel City, hate it. I’m not the fastest downhill rider I admit 🙂

Teadrinker, those look a great buy for someone, not sure I want deep section wheels though. I’ll look at Aksiums… I have DT swiss on 2 mountain bikes and they’ve been great, tough and reliable. I would probably go for them on the road bike if could find any in budget. Cheers all

That looks like an MTB double on the front and presumably an MTB front Derailleur. I don’t think that would work with STi

Everyday’s a schoolday :-)… Are they indexed nowadays or friction only? I can just imagine them being massively irritating to shift with on a bumpy forest track.

Bar end shifter? No likey :-(. Shame really as bike looks proper tough.

I’ve had a pro carbon for a good while now and i won’t be rushing to change it. It’s a 10 year old design, yeah. Means it has external bottom bracket rather than stupid press fit, external cabling instead of nice-to-look-at-but-painful-to-renew internal and a none tapered headtube which, I must say, has never seemed a big deal, especially on a roadbike. I know a good few serious roadies who happily ride pro carbons as 2nd best bikes as well. Having said that, if i was spending a grand now on a roadbike I’d be tempted by Radon or Rose.

I’ve had a Radon hardtail for about 18 months now. Fantastic spec for the money (SRAM X0, Sid fork, Syntace finishing kit etc for about £1200), light and rides really well. I’m really pleased lots of miles in all weathers, so far I’ve only had to replace bottom headset bearing and gear cables. Delivered quick as well.

Strongly suspect the vast majority will vote “in”, fearful of economic disaster. This may be one I’ll abstain on. My instinct is “out” for similar reasons to ernie but I think as things currently stand the UK could be in a even darker place if we left.
Ideally of course I’d prefer a global union 🙂

Used them perhaps 30 times and never had an issue.

I loop a piece of copper wire (earth from 2.5 t &e is ideal) around both ends then twist with pliers. And I re use them.

Shadows of the Mind by Roger Penrose… an argument against strong AI but also a bit of a grand tour through maths, logic, particle physics.
Godel Escher Bach by Douglas Hofstadter, an argument FOR strong AI and much more besides, a life changing book.

Nearly there, need to set the star fangled nut, fit front caliper and trim the brakehoses.

I tried them, pretty much went straight back to spds…found them uncomfortable and a bit sloppy compared to spds…I know a lot of folk really like them though.

How’s everyone’s builds going… on mine hoping headset will arrive tomorrow (thanks for tips on here!), then i can plug fork in and fit wheels. XT brakes, crankset and FD just ordered, stem, bars, seatpost also on way..I’m shopping very carefully, still looking for best prices on shifters, cassette & rear mech. Just under a grand spent so far, bargain 🙂
