General advice seems to be size down one size IF you intend to chuck it about a bit. At 5ft 6in I went for XS and it seems to fit well (S was too high at the front). I have the alloy 105. It’s an amazingly capable bike. Negatives….standard wheels are very poor and not up to off road work and there’s not as much clearance for bigger tyres as on some gravel bikes. I got some 33mm clements and they rubbed a little on the fork.

Considered trying this myself, but the problem is most 26″ frames run a straight headtube and most (all?) 27.5 forks are tapered

Oughtibridge pretty much perfect for what you are after. Transport links pretty good with a link bus to the Supertram to get you to Sheffield. Easy road ride along the valley bottom into Stocksbridge, or via Wharncliffe Woods for an off road route. Loxley not much more expensive than Oughtibridge, Wharnecliffe Side a little cheaper, as there’s more of a mix of housing there. Grenoside good for ride to Stocksbridge, and nice enough place, plenty of buses into Sheffield but not as regular / reliable IME.

Jelley Legs[/url] a really nice stopover if doing it over 2 days. Gives you 75 hilly miles on day and 100 pan flat on day 2 (assuming yo go W to E. Really nice route, road bike fine, even on the slightly off road bit just after York.

Tough crowd! I liked it, some beautiful, quite arty camera work and an unusual location. Formulaic?, maybe but, hey, it’s a cop show….. Still like the the “big” Swedish version best, mind.

Planet X Pro Carbons have a rep for this… (I own one and have never had it happen, though I know of others who have). I’ve often wondered if it’s a particular size frame that is prone to it?

this guy nails it, for me, in the comments section…..

Having ridden bikes for as long as I can remember, never owned a car, commute everyday whether it be sunny or snowing, I’m happy that cycling is normal for more and more people. It pleases me greatly that I see so many more people on bikes than there were just a few years ago. It occasionally makes me wince when I seen them riding with their saddles far too low or their arse hanging out of ill-fitting clothes but generally I feel vindicated for all those times I’ve stated the benefits of riding. Now people are seemingly understanding that there are more ways to get around than in cars. I still get the wonder of being lost and found and finding places I’ve never knew existed. I also love ragging myself up big road climbs or hanging on for dear life down steep mountain bike trails. I love collecting data and finding out more about my body and riding styles, plotting new routes. I love the nerdiness of bike culture, the benefits and problems of new standards and materials. It is a great time to ride bikes. You can get whatever you want out of cycling or, like you seem to be doing, you can suck on lemons and whine about the pure old days.

Same thing happened to me and I’m 99% sure it did indeed just fall off. Allen key can be used to get wheel on and off in the short term. I just bought a new skewer, nearly broke my heart how expensive it was, 🙁

Out…sadly the EU has become a corporate circle jerk where strong nations terrorise and impoverish the weak.I’d love to see a new European project, but the current one is corrupt beyond reform and ideally Brexit might start a trend. Of course it might not, but, either way I can’t see that staying in offers anything good.

Regular commuter for about the last 7 years here, 25 mile round trip with a proper mix of urban, suburban and fast rural. I’ve been T boned once in an incident bad enough to wreck a wheel and give me cuts and bruises. Good average I reckon, but, funnily enough last night’s ride home was one of those that made me feel very mortal with 2 very close passes and a chap starting to pull out from a junction as I was passing in front of his bonnet. Just made eye contact in time, he was very apologetic. Most of the time I feel safe, but I reckon everyone has those days when it feels like a dangerous sport.

I had the Ultremo tubeless. They were fantastic but when they wore there was no stock anywhere and the One tubeless were not yet available so I went back to GP4000s. Gp4000s are great tyres but the tubeless were a class above and I’d definitely have them again.
Edit… just seen the question above. I did 2500 miles on mine and had one noticeable puncture when a sharp piece of swarf pierced the tyre. Sealant kept the pressure high enough to get home. I took the tyre off, pulled the swarf out, refitted it and it blew straight back up without adding any more sealant! I imagine you’ll have punctures galore, you’ll just not notice them.

My son’s school have just built a short-game golf course…

Frightful, Montessori Nursery was a necessity, but home education after that, only way the little darlings can get a truly rounded upbringing …

Follow Main Road north through Grenoside and into the woods. Main car park about 3/4 mile out of the village on your left. Once on your bike if you cross over the road you can go straight up the short fire road into Greno. The Pub Run is right in front of you. If you turn left and ride a couple of hundred yards Steel City is on your right, DH3 is a little further on. Wharncliffe has loads of runs but all are VERY muddy at the moment.

The unofficial tracks in wharny caused a bit of bother in the past with inconsiderate mtbers popping onto plank gate fire road at full pelt and spooking horses. There’s very little conflict in Greno afaik, vast majority of all groups, walkers horseriders and mtbers get along fine. Theres a few bellends for sure, but very few. I get that the motorcross guys need somewhere, but the woods is closed to them.

convert – it’s motorcross bikes riding UP purpose built MTB trails. Lots of money and hard work gone into those trails and MX bikes make a proper mess of them. But more than that, how dangerous is it riding powerful motorcross bikes where they can come into conflict with horseriders, dog walkers etc?

edit – just ssen converts edit….fair play 😀
