That’s half the price of anything I’ve seen before. And only £20 more than the Bosch corded one I bought last year (where the cord is far too short for my square garden). I’d be very tempted.

There’s no job sheet or any paperwork that I signed. I didn’t realise they didn’t have anything more advanced than a plunger and drain rods until they were nearly finished. To make matters more annoying they have glued the new air admittance valve on so it couldn’t be replaced.

It would appear they are invoicing for time. Although the invoice doesn’t quote the number of hours. If a subcontractor at work told me they had tried to do the job but couldn’t and still wanted paying I will tell them to jog on (and have done on one occasion).

I think I’ll email them first thing and politely but firmly tell them no.

Garbage collection seems to stop the SSD slowing down. Garbage collection Link[/url]

But TRIM is also important apparently so OSX now supports it via a Terminal command.

I don’t really want to spend £60 on something that will gradually slow down when I could spend a bit more and get something that doesn’t. It’s the video processing that seems to need the faster SSD.

I used to use them a lot at Halfords for extra display space. In short I would avoid. They are OK small wheels without discs but anything else I would not recommend. They don’t support the bike properly. The end result, especially in a shop environment where the bikes get knocked, is buckled wheels, bent spokes and scratched bikes where another has fallen on it. They also have to bolted to the floor otherwise they are a faff to get the bike out.

The most efficient storage for lots of bikes is a scaffold pole hung horizontally. The bikes are hung by the wheels from large hooks – one end over the pole, the other end at right angles to hold the wheel. It’s efficient because you can slide the hooks along the pole to adjust the spacing as required.
I believe all Halfords have the same storage system out back. You could ask a manager to let you have a look at it (although there are H&S and security reasons why they may say no).

Mines started. But only the eyes. I’ve had bad summer hayfever for nearly 20 years. But in the last few years I also get a short spring bout as well.

Chromium-something or other eye drops from Boots does the trick

It’ll be fine for years. Just touch up as best you can. Kurust works pretty well at converting the rust. Although i find rubbing down the first coat and reapplying works best. The inside of the tubes will likely have rust already. It’s a fact of life with any steel bike.

Carborundum sharpening stone need oil rather than water. Waterstones are softer and porus so they need water.

Carborundum sharpening stone are slow to sharpen and messy, but they are cheap. Japanese waterstones are very fast to use but much more expensive and need more regular flatening. I got a good set from workshop heaven for about £90. Worth it if you want a very sharp edge. Or you just cannot be bothered spending 30 mins sharpening one blade!

Mine seems to either the axle is too large or the holes in the hubs are a fraction too small. Will try grease and failing that some wet and dry. Maybe the anodising is too thick round the holes.

Cannot comment on the x-king but the mountain king is an aweful tyre. Its very draggy (slow) and loses grip unpredictably in the corners. I could never trust them.

Capreo was designed for small wheels i.e. Brompton.

Probably a bit too niche for Shimano.

This seems to be aimed at the top end of the market, rather than Alfine. I always thought alfine was a bit…. soft.

I really like the styling. But that said I can’t stand the new XT groupset. This one is really to my taste.

Yes no hubs. I hadn’t spotted that. I guess they are both mtb and road hubs to be used depending on the frame. Or maybe they have a new set of hubs with proper cartridge bearings coming out….ideal for commuters?!!! No probably not.

34p per household for the leaflet. That’s 17p each in my household (and my wife isn’t eligible to vote in the referendum).

14 pages of stuff telling me why I should vote to stay for 17p of my money is completely fine with me. I am also completely happy with paying another 17p to have the same from the leave campaign. Then I would have info from both sides so I can make a decision either way.

Given how important this vote could be, I would happily see more of my taxes go towards informing me. Far rather this than seeing it disappear to some private sector company rinsing me.

The leave campaign should stop moaning and get on with their own leaflet.

    Thanks that clears things up.

The new Tiagra 4700 rear mech goes up to 34T. However, it won’t work with my existing 4600 shifters. Given my “lets see if I can a cheap roadrat frame off ebay” project has turned into a new frame, fork and wheels arriving tomorrow I’m not going to be able to splash out on a new set of shifters too.
I’ll see what the gearing is like once I’ve built it up. I only really need a low gear on a couple of hills round here when I have a child in tow.

Carerra something cheap – BB too low
Specialized Sirrus – too upright and BB too low

I think Isla must be struggling with economies of scale. When I last compared Frog to Isla (for my sisters kids) Frog came out much better. I guess as they are selling in loads of bike shops they are buying parts in bigger volume. They were trading on proper sized parts for small hands and legs. But now the same parts can be bought off ebay for half the price.

Isla look overpriced and dated now. I’d go with Frog, or another decent make. Just swap any bits you don’t like and sell them on.

My sister ignored all my advice and bought a Bobbins bike. it weighs a tonne and is basically pig iron in farrow & ball. But “it looks posh”….

You need a copy of Urban Cyclist Magazine! Full of stuff exactly like that. I don’t have a copy to hand, but from memory Endura and Royal both do “Urban” ranges. Ted Baker and Paul Smith also if you want to splash the cash. There’s loads of brands out there now.

From those pics plus the bike pics on Marin it looks like a really short bike, the geometry specs suggest this too. It appears that is how it is supposed to be i.e. a really sit up and look around commuter. Personally I would want something with a longer top tube. But it is very much down personal preference. 120 mm stem would leave you with quite sluggish steering.

    Why are you wearing crocs?

I’ve had to take people down that route before. I suggest you lay facts on the table first and issue a written warning. There are so many employee protection rights on this that it is risky for the employer to fire without being taking to a tribunal. Sounds like you’re in a small company so you might find it easier to get rid of staff. But none the less I’d want to be sure the case couldn’t be argued against.

In my sector it takes around 1-2 years (seriously) to build a case to fire someone. Unless they do something stupid like kill some. Assaulting another member of staff might do it, but often not!

Don’t underestimate the effectiveness of a good verbal slapping. I turned around one member of staff with a serious of “difficult conversations”. Depends if they are good at their job otherwise.

I have a single garage with about the same amount of stuff in. I wish it was bigger. It’s OK when it’s super tidy, but as soon as I need to do anything like service a bike or chop a sheet of ply it feels cramped.

I think you would be mad to knock down a big garage and build a shed. Not least because it’ll cost a bomb to get rid of the existing garage. If the garage is unsightly grow a few climbing roses/clematis/climbers over it.

When I was a mechanic we used GT85. Even in the fancy LBS I started in we never used anything more fancy than GT85 on customers bikes.

Getting nowhere with this. My brother suggest yellow (no) or green. But he’s ginger, so used to looking at garish colours meaning his opinion doesn’t count.
Wife thinks gunmetal. Looking at the roadrat vs the escapade one is “gunmetal” the other is silver? Why on earth did Cotic decide to photograph it in the dark?!

Anyone got a gunmetal cotic with photos of it in the daylight?

That’s a fair point. Thinking about it all the rims I have had wih eyelets have ended up corroding around the eyelet. I think salt off the road must get stuck in them and then leaves a nasty stain on the rim.

Heard back from Cotic today. The hubs are Novatec as I suspected. Seem to be good in my experience from other Novatec hubs.

Now I just need to decide on the frame colour….

It’s the 9mm axle that is stumping me. Initial searches have drawn a blank on hubs that can take a 9mm thru axle. Otherwise I would just build my own wheels.

Edit – as in a hub that works out a cost effective alternative to Cotics own wheels

Reading the comments on the Guardian people are already blaming the EU. Although it appears the MPs may have had more than their fair share in leading to the demise.

Worryingly I cannot see this helping the EU remain campaign. Especially as Wales seems to be already wanting to leave.

I replaced various bits on my Miele, including soldering some new bits on the motherboard. That thing is built to last and to be serviced. I was impressed at how easy it was to service.
I heard SMEG fridges are junk inside. No idea what their washing machines are like. As others have said worth investigating. But if you are paying someone to do it for you, rather than doing it yourself it may not be economical.

We charge a fixed fee to find a tenant and the monthly management is fixed too

    – Isn’t that the same as every letting agent? Not come across one round here who doesn’t follow that structure.

Anyway, as soon as I see someone slagging off the competition I know that they cannot beat the competition with their own product. Just really sell why you are good.

I got a Norbar 1/4 one off ebay for less than £50. I’ve also got a Halfords 40-200 Nm that I paid £50 for in a sale. Halfords torque wrenches are made by Norbar. Oddly Halfords ones are usually around £79, while the same one in Norbar box is over £100

Hmmm £200 for non-eyeletted wheels seems a lot….but I cannot afford the extra for Hopes. Plus I don’t want anything too flashy in case it gets pinched. I emailed Cotic this afternoon. I’m guessing Novatech hubs but I’ll wait and see.

300 mm wide may be hard to get hold of. Plus as above, it would need to be a very stable board not to cup at that thickness. Hardwood plywood might be a good choice depending on what you’re doing. Plus it tends to be cheaper. Birch ply is about £90 for 8×4 foot sheet.

If you want boards I would look locally for a timber merchant. Then it’s a case of taking the day off work to drive round them all to find a decent piece of wood.
