When fitting mine I did notice that the two slightly cut away sections didn’t line up with the rest of the cassette, its as if it needed to be moved clockwise around the freehub body 1/2 a spline, as it is now the cut away section sits just behind the rest of the cassette but move it round another spline and its to far forward.
I didn’t think it was ideal, but it works, so not to fussed.

I used the original 17t to start with, didn’t have any issues shifting with that either, only changed to a 16t to get rid of the big jump between the 13t and 17t.

Got a OneUp 16t sprocket on mine, no issues at all, as long as its all adjusted correctly and you’ve a decent cable then I can’t see why you’ll have issues.

On some 5-10 Low Impacts I put some press studs in them (1 at the front and back and 1 on each side)then bought some XL Neoprene diving socks, cut the soles out then added the press studs.
They cover the whole shoe but leaves the soles open to use with flat pedals. This will be my second winter with them, they work ideal for me.

Just buy a small tub of Tyre Soap, only a few quid and will last ages, brush some around the tyre and rim and it’ll pop on no bother.

My mother done the same with her 08 207 1.4 HDI, had about 1/4 tank of diesel and then she put about another 1/4 tank of unleaded in, she had a bit of a panic, she’d drove it a few mile without any issue then we filled the tank with diesel to dilute it down, its ran fine ever since.

I was bringing the washing in earlier on and got a wiff of some green from the young lad next doors bedroom window, I actually thought fair play to the lad, it smelt like some quality herb !
On a serious note thought, I wouldn’t think the passive smoke from his back garden would do you any harm by the time it gets to your house.

Spot on, i’ll look them up, being ran by an English couple is definitely a bonus, foreign language isn’t my strong point.

Came to have a look at it this afternoon and it was back to around minus 18, so looks like its sorted itself out.
I’m starting to think that it was due to the mrs leaving the door open.

    Cheers for your help.

That grease nipple won’t help or hinder the freehub body, any excess grease will just get pushed out past the cones / seals.
Very unlikey to get to the pawls.

Why not just strip it and do the job right.
The 2 notches (shimano freehubs) by the bearing race, that unscrews then everything comes apart.
Grease the bearings, bit of gear oil on the pawls.
If the freehubs knacked then buy a new one !

We stayed in Cala en Bosc last September, nice place. Good bit of riding along the ‘Cami de Cavalls’ as well.

Rode both the North and South Altura trails tonight, a lot of the route is on fire roads but uses some of the trails as well, its pretty wet in places with a bit of standing water, abit of snow higher up but nothing that affects the trail, all seemed ride well.
The route seems to have changed from last year, you don’t go all the way to the top of the South trail, so I imagine they’ll have to add some extra bits to make up the mileage.
Weather doesn’t seem to be to bad, sunshine and showers, even if it stays dry your still gonna get fairly wet from the trails.
    Have fun !!

Cheers for all the info guys, the west coast does look quite cool. John O’Groats wasn’t a definite, it would add a fair amount of miles to the trip so maybe cross that off.
Gives me a good few things to think about.
    Cracking pics.

    Cheers

Haha, this did amuse me when I saw the thread title !
Wigton born and bred here, although I escaped to Carlisle a good few year ago. Wigtons not a bad place really, there is a lot worse places you could live (like Aspatria / Maryport / Workington, well, anywhere in west Cumbria really) … would I stop there for a holiday over Keswick … No !!!
If your wanting to stay somewhere in the north lakes then you won’t go far wrong with Keswick, or even Cockermouth. Both are decent little towns with plenty going on and things to do and see.
    Have fun !

I snapped my ACL just over 3 year ago after an off on the bike, had the accident early October, think I was laid up for about 3-4 week, then started at the phsyio and gym to build my leg muscles back up before the op, had the op late December (removed part of hamstring tendon and made a new acl from it), was walking with crutches the same day, hobbling around the house without crutches within a few days, think it was about april time that I was back on the bike (just on the road), I done a fair bit of phsyio / gym work to get back into action asap, i’m sure it late summer and I was back out off road again, was abit dubious at first, but it never gave me any bother, i’d say within 12 month of the accident I was back to doing everything I was before hand without any issues at all.

Got a non G2 Fox Float on my 2013 Trek Stache and it rides absolutely fine. I’m sure ‘on paper’ it won’t ride as well as a G2 version, but do you notice it in the real world … i’d be surprised if many can, maybe if you had two indentical bikes with the same model fork, one G2 and the other non G2 and rode them back to back on the same trail.

Ah well, looks like its a no then.
Overshoes are no good as the bottoms of them get torn up from the pedals, i’m sure Gaiters would do the job, would’ve preferred some decent shoes tho.

Those Canyoneers look interesting, be good to have a look at them in the flesh.
That’s not a bad idea with the marigolds, have got a good few pair at work … might have to have a play tomorrow.

I should’ve said in the 1st post really … I always use some 5-10s, and have some decent socks and some sealskinz, I don’t have a problem with keeping my feet warm or dry, its just the 5-10s getting soaked and taking ages to dry out, that’s why i’m looking for something that has a upper cover of some sort to keep them filling up with water.

Just having a read of the ‘race report’ on the website, ends with them saying …

As the weather showed no sign of easing and with riders and marshals starting to look very cold and wet, the event Safety Officer and Race Director decided to call an early end to proceedings. A very challenging day with some fantastic mountain biking, the organisors are just hoping for much kinder weather next year…

Still annoyed they cut it short, they knew what the forecast was gonna be so should’ve been preppered for it, isn’t the point of the Whinlatter Challange to be a Challange !!!

Re marshalls- what you saw was one marshall, for one minute, out of a long day, so it’s not fair to judge. Once you’ve been stood herding sheep for hours, it gets old and it’s easy to slip. Also, just because there’s a marshall there doesn’t absolve you from the need to think for yourself, if you collide with another rider that’s not the marshall’s fault- they’re there to smooth the flows but not to prevent that!

Obviously marshalls aren’t gonna stop anyone from crashing and injuring themselves, but you do need marshalls there to report accidents to and for them to be able to get help to folk who are seriously injured.

Just posted in another thread about the Challange.
Did they mention they were closing the course anytime before the start ? I didn’t mange to catch a breifing before the start … was there one ?
I’m still baffled how they went about closing it before the 3rd lap, 20 mins after the 1st (elite) rider finshes, how does that work with a 45 min staggered start !?

I wasn’t overly impressed with the organisation, Whinlatters my local trail so knew it was gonna be reasonably tough, but when its advertised as approx 30 mile over 3 laps (10 mile per lap) and you put your first lap in and its nearly 12.3 mile thats nearly an extra 7 mile, quite abit over the 30 mile !!
I was also a bit miffed at the way they brought in a cut off point after 2 laps, no word of this on the website or in any of the details before the race, they stopped folk starting their 3rd lap 20 mins after the 1st rider finished … how does that work when the start is staggered over 45 mins !?!?
The marshalls who were there were all friendly and done a top job in the p*ssing down rain, only prob was that there wasn’t many of them on half of the course, there were 2 marshalls within 1 mile of the start then that was it for another 6 mile. I came across a guy who’d came off and broke his arm just after the first main climb, he had a hell of a long wait to get rescued due to there being no marshalls anywhere nearby to report it to, pretty bad seeing as the weather was shocking and it was advertised as being “well marshalled”.
Anyway, what i did do i enjoyed it, just wish i’d been allowed to finsish what i entered !
