Yeah, "loads more choice than just legumes"

Oh yes beans, eggs and meat.

+1 what Jamie said for my experience.

I didn't get on with sudocream, but Udderly Butterly is awesome.

    Also better shorts helped me.

Nadgery or knadgery, both annoying. As in a "nadgery bit of trail".

MTFU is a pretty annoying and stupid americanism although I have now started using it in everyday life, not just on here.

A do a little squirt after every ride.

Basically I'll let any moisture on the chain dry off, then I rub it down with a cloth to get rid of any crud, knock off any dirt from the rest of the gears, and then just put a little bit of squirt on.

    Really satisfying.

I'm coming up for a week and a half now and have mixed feelings about this approach.

While it does feel quite healthy I don't really seem to be losing any weight, if anything I've gained a little bit of fat around the middle. Probably from all the chorizo, other meats and the nuts.

However, I don't think I've managed a whole day when i have stuck to the rules completely. e.g. I've had the odd nutrigrain bar or small jacket potato, or other small but normally considered healthy snack.

But mainly I've been struggling to stomach all the beans. Yes they definitely have their place but for more than one meal per day is hard work, even then its a bit much. Lentils and dhal are great though.

I didn't go crazy on my day off, just a bowl of cereal, sandwiches, and a pizza + beer. Eating omelettes and sausages for breakfast doesn't seem like the best way to lose weight or fat.

Is anyone else having probs and who is getting on well?

I have been keeping nice and regular though.

And the day off yesterday was brilliant. I had PIZZA!

Ok been on for 1 week now. Trying my best to mtfu and stick it but have managed one or two minor slips everrday.

For sweets, I found the ryebread free from cake in sainsbury's very good and i think it's allowed (if you pick off some of the sweetened ginger bits).

Getting a bit sick of beans now. and omelettes.

But at least today has been my normal food day.

Oh and I never eaten so much meat in one week before! thats been good.

molgrips are you still being the control, i.e. dieting heavily on a conventional diet + bike exercise? I'm enjoying how you have embraced this.

I can't believe no one has yet said the classic
"let's think outside the box" !

"let's park that" does annoy me, though thankfully my work isn't too management speak heavy (i do have too many bosses tho)

Meeting Dave Hemming at one of the first national DH rounds at Innerleithan.

My 15yr old mate: "hey Dave, how many backhops can you do?"
    Dave H: "dunno, I lost count about a 1000"

I've been having similar thoughts as I'm on the "idave diet" and am doing the bonty 24/12 in a couple of weeks. I'm doing a 12hr pairs race.

As i've been eating lots of beans and veg i don't think i'll be too depleted of carbs – and i have been bike training as per usual and feel totally fine. (although have only been doing intervals and shorter rides, nothing over 2 yrs).

My plan is to eat some pasta the night before the race, then porridge on race day morning, then normal race food, and then a recovery drink and back on the diet afterwards. If I feel terrible i might have some other non-diet food, but i suspect it'll be fine.

I'm on an old style trek top fuel, and it does stiffen up under braking. I try not to brake on the bumpy bits if possible

    Enjoy
Setting up new projects which have real benefits, e.g. I've just done the feasibility study and secured funding for insulating a medium sized primary school which gets very cold in winter; should bring good benefits in terms of health and eduction.

Yes molegrips I understood what you meant by a control, i.e. it's good to have you on board as a control. I have already read some of your criticisms (along with TJ's on the other thread).

anyway i think choritzo and spinach omelettes for breakfast sound pretty good as a starting point.

I'm not qualified in any way other than personal experience but I think it'll be fine as long as you (i) ate properly after your exercise, ii) got a good nights sleep and iii) feel ok other than your legs being a bit tired.

Molgrips, good to have you on board!

I'm not starting till next week, after a trip to london this weekend and then a visit from my mother. Then I'll MTFU… looking forward to it.

Does she like whisked raw egg?

is she drinking? half serious suggestion would be some torq natural sprinkled in her water/milk (you can't taste the stuff but full of carbs).

    Was mayhem busy this weekend?

    wonnyj

I dunno really. There are some many more events these days, and all the ones i go to seem to be almost full or full, plus the trail centres are so busy that I don't ride them at the weekends anymore. So I'd say that the broad church that is mountain biking is pretty healthy right now. It's not just events either, so many different types of mtbing these days too. The sport has exploded over the last 10year surely? Plus there's a pretty big selection of euro based summer bike holiday providers now, which is totally different to a few years ago. Trail centres have made it much more accessible.

[btw I sit here preaching about mtbing after a hard 4.5hr raod ride this morning]
